The sisters headed straight for Lorelei's room, avoiding their father as the stepmother was still at work at this time. Once in the bedroom, they shut the door and sit across each other on the bed. Lorelei stared at the envelope in her hand, still flabbergasted that she was holding a letter from the Michael Myers.
"Well? You going to open it? Or drool all over it first like a lovestruck fangirl?" Erin joked, earning a glare from her sister.
"Shut up." She hissed as she started to open it. "I'm just, so unprepared for this. It's like he waited last minute, I did mention the end date of the essay." She pulled the letter out the envelope and unfolds it. It wasn't the best handwriting, but it was still legible, and written with a pencil.
"Let's just... hope he doesn't plan on getting out anytime soon, he does have our address after all." Erin points out as Lorey shook her head.
"I don't even want to think about that. But wow, read what he sent." She handed her the letter, Erin took it and read it, making a face.
"He's pretty open at the end of this sis, I'm surprised he even, expressed this, and was even approved, he doesn't even know you." Erin looked up at her. "Wonder what the teacher will even say about this."
"Well, I know one thing is certain." Lorey took the letter back. The class will call bullshit, saying it was faked. But with my proof alone by the envelope's print, I'll get that A+." She snickered in joyous delight. "Can't wait to see the look on Elsie's face!"
"Karma sure is a bitch." Erin laughed and gave her sister a fist bump. "Do tell me how the presentation goes."
"You can bet on it."
The next day rolled around; Lorelei made sure to have everything for her essay. Her notes, and Michael's letter, stuffed in her bag before leaving and taking her route to get to school, where she lived was only a 30-minute walk. Once she entered the building, she heads to her locker like clockwork, her class for the assignment wasn't till her 5th period. As per usual, Elsie was causing problems.
"Bet you're gonna fail Lorelame, whatever person you picked I bet is as lame and boring as you." Elsie grinned to herself. Lorelei simply shut the locker and looked in her direction.
"We'll see." Is all she responded before walking off. Leaving Elsie in a fit of laughter. Throughout the day she became more anxious, once it was time, she got to the class early as always. She reached in her bag to pull out her paper and the letter, setting it on her desk to look it over as she waits for the class to start.
When class begun, the teacher would select the students that would be presenting, mainly going down the line of the seats, when she was next, she gathered her things and walked up front.
"So, Lorelei, who will you be telling us about in your essay?" The teacher questioned.
"Well, something that will go with the Halloween theme as it's close to the particular holiday. And the reoccurring story that is brought up every year, is Michael Myers."
"That is, a very interesting choice, do continue then." The teacher urged.
Lorelei looked at her paper in her hands. "We all know the story of the 6-year-old boy, Michael Audrey Myers, that stabbed his older sister on Halloween night in 63'. I became invested in this story when I first heard about it 2 years ago, on what would drive this young child to do such to one of his own family, everyone would say he's just evil, or something mentally wrong, or maybe made to do it by force. So, I wanted to dig deeper." Lorelei started, taking brief glances at her writing so she could tell the story in her own words.
"I believed there had to be more to it. To this day he is still residing in Smith's Grove, he would be 14 as his birthday is the 19th of this month. His parents, however, were both killed in a car accident not long after Michael was admitted, he also had a younger adopted sister, but after the incident she was adopted out by the Strodes family, and the Myers house is still standing, abandoned and overgrown, it was never put up for sale or demolished."
She flipped her paper to the other side. Elsie in the back row was leaned back with her arms crossed, having to sit through this.
"Michael's doctor, Dr. Loomis, described him as purely and simply evil, no reason, conscience, emotion and understanding in the sense of life or death, of good and evil or right or wrong. First meeting 6-year-old Michael with this blank, pale emotionless face, and the blackest eyes, he's never spoken a word since he's been there."
She then pulled up the letter.
"Now, this is where I would be done presenting but, I got one last thing." She held up the letter. "On the day of the assignment was given, I had used all my notes I just shared now, so I took it a step further, and to attempt to contact Michael Myers myself by letter, I received this yesterday from the Sanitarium after two weeks of sending mine."
"Let me see that, Lorelei." The teacher held out her hand for the letter, she hands it off as she looked over the envelope, seeing the print label. Lorelei waited patiently.
"This, is an actual printed envelope..." It was handed back to Lorelei, and she takes it and pulls out the written letter.
"I honestly didn't expect a reply back, I was thinking it was long thrown away. But I asked him to tell me anything. And this being his response."
She unfolds the letter and read it aloud.
"Do I feel honored in your choice of persons you wished to present? Am I one to show gratitude toward your action? No. The curiosity is what peaks me, to show such interest in a boy of my nature. If I might one day make my freedom, we will meet face to face."
-Michael.
The class was silent, the teacher included, Lorelei herself was too, she's read this over and over through the time she first had it in her hands.
"Lorelei?" Her teacher broke the silent, she looked at her.
"Did you ever think of the... consequences, of contacting such a person? What he just indicated in that letter?" She questioned. "He admitted he will look for you if he is released? Don't that frighten you?"
Lorelei didn't give it any thought when she shook her head immediately. "I didn't. And to be honest with you Mrs. Barlowe, if he does get out?" She then handed the paper to her to turn in, and she takes it. "Let him. I'm not scared of him like most are. For someone those claim he has no emotion or conscience, but he'll write me, a complete stranger, a response letter." She waved the letter in her hand slightly, then folded it up putting it back in the envelope.
"Just be careful involving anything related next time alright?" Mrs. Barlowe warned. "But, for putting in the effort to do such a thing, just for an assignment, I'll give you extra credit for it." She smiled.
"Thank you." She smiled in return, then gave a small smirk toward Elsie, who gave her a glare, narrowing her eyes as she watched Lorelei go back to her seat. Through the remainder of the time, other kids did their presentations, not all were able to go so the rest would finish tomorrow. The bell rings, and everyone dismissed.
Lorelei proudly went up to her locker to switch some books out she'll need for her next classes. As she was about to close the locker, she was suddenly shoved against it, she managed to get a glance at her attackers, being Elsie and her two friends. Gripping her clothing to keep her pinned.
"Don't think you're getting away with that little smirk you pulled in class Lorraine!" Elsie hit her in the side. One of her friend's then hit her in the stomach, the other landing one in the side of her face, all three started hitting, kicking, punching, striking her all over her body, covering the back of her head and yelling for them to stop, they didn't listen, nor did any bystanders or teachers hear her cries of help.
"You tell anyone or snitch on us it'll be worse on you!" One of the friend's laughed.
Lorelei tried to fight back and push them off, but it was three against one, she was outnumbered, with what energy she had remaining, her eyes scanned the inside of her locker for anything she could use to defend herself. She spotted a pencil laying on the floor of the locker, she stretched her arm toward it, grasping it in her hand then thrusts her hand back with a yell.
A scream came soon after then a thud from behind, she became free and fell back against the other lockers, when she turned she saw Elsie holding her blood covered face, the pencil jabbed right between her right eye and the bridge of her nose, her friends right at her side. "Go get the nurse!" One shouted as they ran off down the hall, Lorelei slowly stood to her feet, using the wall as leverage.
"You bitch! You're a dead woman!" The remaining girl shouted, going to land a punch, Lorelei quickly reacts by grabbing her wrist and bending her arm back, making her scream and land a kick to the stomach, knocking her back.
She had to leave, before that other friend of Elsie's and the nurse come back. Lorelei took her backpack and slammed her locker before fleeing out of the building, as much as she was in pain everywhere, she jogged halfway home, bursting into the door of the house and slammed it shut, collapsing back against it. The ruckus alerted her father and sister, both coming down the stairs.
"Lorelei?!" Erin exclaimed before kneeling to her side. "What the hell happened? Why you home so early?"
"Erin... dad... she... Elsie... I, I-I..." Lorelei couldn't speak, half being out of breath and in pain.
"Spit it out Lorey! What's going on?" Her dad encouraged holding her shoulders, she looked at them both.
"I... I attacked, Elsie.. I stabbed her.. it was in self defense! I swear! Her and her friends pinned me and were beating me against the lockers!" Lorelei rubbed her face and neck. "I had no choice... no one heard it or tried to help me."
"And you ran away?" Erin questioned bewildered. "Lorey you can't flee a scene like that, you stabbed someone!"
"I panicked!" Lorelei cried. "What can I do now? I can't go back?"
"We'll just have to wait, most likely a police officer will come to get you." William sighed as Erin helped her sister up and to the couch in the living room.
"You'll surely get in trouble for this and given some consequence but, just tell them what you told us and you should be fine."
Lorelei could only nod. Erin gave her some ice packs and a quick drink. After the next 30 minutes, a cop car pulled up in front of the house, the lights indicating its arrival as an officer knocked on the door, William answering and asking for Lorelei, directing him to her on the couch. The cop takes her out to the car and in the back seat and is taken back to the school for questioning.
The problem now, is Elsie is the principal's daughter, and when Lorelei fled it made more of the case suspicious on her part. Leaving the principal even more furious, as he always took his daughter's side. Lorelei had nothing to show of the fight happening, no bloody lip, scratches, cuts, anything, she'd have bruises but those don't show on skin within a couple of days. The next move was she is taken to the police station until the school district decides her punishment. As also to find out if any of the incident was caught on the security cameras in the building, and this will seal Lorelei's fate.
Due to the severity of the attack Lorelei conducted of her approach in the fight. The school sentenced her to Juvenile until age 18 to be prosecuted as an adult in court for her actions. In Lorey's eyes, she didn't belong here, this whole case is against her, and she can feel it, she knows it. She stayed away from anyone else, didn't talk unless it was someone in charge. Some poor soul did try to talk to her, but she gave them a death glare, never approached her again since. Within a year of her imprisonment in the Juvenile system she had gotten in a couple fights during lunch time, she was now to sit by herself through the rest of her remaining 3 years, and most of those years were just loneliness, and had taken a toll on her mental state.
Jail wasn't any easier, she served her years in the Juvenile Justice System, her case spiraled even more downward after her court sentence, the footage mentioned before was never recovered, supposedly the camera was down, and all footage was "lost" and never caught the scene. Lorelei was sentenced to 3 years in jail. As she was led out the courtroom, she shot Elsie a cold stare, this wasn't over.
