New inmates come into jail every day; Lorelei gone through the process of getting settled with the clothing, bed accessories and shared cell. Her cellmate being more older than her, dressed in the orange jail uniform, had some tattoos on one arm and tad darker skin. Lorelei had the cuffs taken off then the door shut behind her, locking it as the guard walked away, she takes a deep breath as she walked further in the room, her cellmate knew she was there as she was notified beforehand of her arrival.
"Top bunk missy." She told her, Lorelei only nodded as she went to the bed and set her things up. The women watched her as she got her bunk set then sits on the edge of the bed, then walked in front of her in her line of sight.
"I'm gonna lay it down for ya shortie, if we have no problem with each other, everything will be smooth between us, got it?"
Lorelei only nodded in agreement.
"Good. Now what do I call you?" She asked as she watched her slip off the bed to the floor.
"Lorelei." She answered. "Or Lorey is fine."
"Well, Lorey, call me Bones or Bo."
"Bones?" Lorey questioned. "Nickname I presume?"
"Yes, only to those that are seen as deserved and are respected among the others here. But now, what the hell you in here for? I only got bits and pieces; only know you went to Juvenile."
Lorelei took a breath, glancing to the floor. "I stabbed a chick in the face with a pencil in self-defense, she had been my school bully for years and the day I decide to defend myself everything possible goes against me..." She started to pace; Bones just leaned back against the bed bar and watched her as she listened.
"Camera footage was said to have been corrupted which I know was a lie."
"Why you think that?"
"Because that bitch's father was the principal! He had to of tampered with the camera, it's that gut feeling." She shakes her head to herself. "Now I'm stuck in here for 3 years more... I stayed 3 already in isolation in Juvenile..."
"I've been in here for 28 gurl, you get used to it like moving into a new house." Bones shrugged.
"Can I ask why you're in here?"
"Felony burglary and first-degree murder."
"Damn, I only get a class A misdemeanor... for stabbing someone." Lorelei went back over to the beds and climbed up the short ladder.
"Hey, if it was for the sole purpose to kill the person then you'd be in here longer." Bones sat down on hers. Both women lay down for the time being till given the open door to roam.
Lorelei throughout her time in jail she learned how everyday was like, eating three times a day, exercising, going out in the courtyard, Bones had introduced her to some of the other inmates she affiliates with. She got the occasional letters from her sister and father; she kept every single one. And of course, she got in a couple scuffles, only one full on fight with someone after they sliced her upper lip with a shank made out of a melted ended toothbrush, thankfully she didn't get punished for it and got the attacker instead, her lip would leave a definite scar.
November 2nd, 1978
It was around the time the inmates could roam, not for Lorelei, she stayed in her cell away from everyone much as possible. Any more fights she'll be thrown in isolation, she was already slammed with an extra year to her sentence because of her behavior, so to avoid any more conflict, she stayed to herself aside from Bones, they got along really well, but one thing is for sure, she missed her family.
She laid on her bed with a pillow over her face. Bones walks in the room, then tossed two envelopes on Lorelei's chest.
"Mail delivery!" Bones announced as she sat in chair to look at her own mail.
Lorelei sat up grabbing her envelopes. "Thanks Bo." She looks at the two she got.
"You hear the news? I doubt you have since you been in here like a groundhog in its hole." Bones looked up at her.
"I haven't. What's this news?"
"Heard of Michael Myers? That crazed psycho murderer from that asylum? He escaped few days ago."
Lorey froze, looking over at her. "He escaped? Few days ago? And we're now just hearing about it?"
"Hey, when you're in here, sometimes you get the news later than others." Bones shrugged.
She contemplated on this. She remembered that letter she gotten from Michael back then, and what it said at the end; 'If I might one day make my freedom, we will meet face to face.'
She's said herself she wasn't scared of him, worried yes, not until she realized.
"Bones?" She looked at her, Bones doing the same.
"This may be hard to believe, but I had written a letter to Michael when he was still in the Sanitarium, the same day the incident happened of me getting charged. He wrote back to me saying if he makes it out, he's going to find me." She explained and looked down at her hands, still holding her mail. "And I'm going to be getting out soon..."
"Why the hell you even contact a dude like that in the first place...?" She paused. "Know what, not important. " She stood up. "That is worrisome especially for someone like Michael. All I can say is keep your guard up, you're a jailbird, and it toughens you up, you ask every person that's been in prison or jail, they'll say the same thing." She pointed at her while she spoke. "Use that strength, the will power, and fight for your life when worse comes to shove gurl."
Lorelei nodded and smiled confidently. "I will keep your words at heart Bones. I won't forget you from here."
"You better." She smiled back and went back to her business.
Lorelei done the same and takes out the letter. First being from her sister. As she read it, she was... enraged. Seems like their stepmother refuses to let her back home once she's released. her and their father not having a choice to go against it, or they would get kicked to the street. Saying she didn't want some criminal in their household, this seemed to indicate she was on Elsie's side of the story here. Growling under her breath as she tossed the letter on the end of the bed. She moves on to the last letter. Bones could see her sudden behavior change but didn't press onto it.
She looked at the name on the envelope, it only said 'M', she didn't know anyone named M or starting with that letter. Unless...
She unfolds the paper, and she instantly recognized the handwriting. It looked like a simple friendly letter but had a hidden message...
"Hey Bo, you got a pen?"
"Sure do." She reached over to a small table and tossed it up to her, Lorelei catching it she used the wall as a hard surface. Bones watched her the entire time. She used the envelope to write on and looked back and forth from the letter as she wrote. Once she figured it out, she grinned.
"Michael you clever man..." She murmured.
"What are you doing Lorey?" Bones said climbing up to her bed. She looked at her.
"This letter is from Michael." She said in a low tone.
"What! No way, you're bullshitting." She snatched the letter and looked at it.
"The envelope had the letter M on it, and he put in a hidden message in the letter to hide it from the authorities." She kept her voice low.
"And? What did the message say?" Bones gave her look, waiting, Lorelei held up the envelope she wrote it on, saying; 'See you soon.'
"So, how the hell did he know you were behind bars?"
"He has his ways I guess... or the possible and scariest theory is, he found my house hoping to find me, and overheard I was in jail." Lorelei shivered at the thought, shaking her head.
"That's the most likely case. Now he's just waiting till you get out." Bones climbed down to the floor.
"Okay don't freak me out any more than I am already." Lorey chuckled.
Around the beginning of next week. Lorelei had served her time and was now free. She takes the things she had, only wearing a white t-shirt and black sweats. She had all the letters she received while in jail. But now she was stuck, she couldn't go back home... she was now on her own, practically homeless, and was pissed.
Now to come up with a plan, find some shelter until night comes, sneak inside her house to get some things she'll need, then leave. And work on her next plan from there. But something else also crossed her mind, Elsie and her father...
Lorelei's hands made fists at the thought of them. She started on her walk, her long black hair covering her face partially, unbeknownst to her, she was being watched.
Walking down the street, taking a glance around the neighborhood, she missed the sun, the fresh air, almost forgetting how her home area looked after being in the system for those years. She tried to find a place she could bunker down, there was one place that came to mind, but it was risky especially right now. The Myers House. It would only be until it's dark.
"Fuck it... if he comes, so be it." She headed toward the abandoned house, seeing it in view, she didn't see no change, besides the overgrowth possibly getting more clustered. She made sure no one was around to see her enter the house, putting some force into the rotted door and going in, closing it behind her, locking it. She took a gander around; she did always want to come inside the Myers home for a while now. She cautiously, slowly, took her own tour around the house, it was decent sized place, must have been nice back in the day.
Getting a good look around the house, she settled on a sofa in what she believes is the Livingroom. She still had her letters, setting them aside on an old coffee table then settled until it was time.
Lorelei had accidently fallen asleep while she waited for the night to fall. Waking up and realizing, she shot up and glanced at a window, seeing the night sky. She stood to her feet with a stretch, going to the door after unlocking it and peeking out. It was quiet, she steps out and closed the door. Immediately heading toward her house.
She sees no lights were on, perfect. She heads to the back of the house, going to a window that is always left unlocked. Getting it open she climbed up inside, landing without a sound, finding herself in the bathroom. She makes her way through the house and up the stairs toward her own room. Going inside, she finds it almost practically empty, some her things in the room were gone, like it was being cleared out. She shook her head and focused on her task. Slipping on some better shoes, pulling her hair up in a bun. And starts rummaging through her things in a closet.
Something then caught her eye, pausing her search, she reached over and grabbed it, giving a light tug to loosen it, bringing it out into view. It was a mask, a purple shaded mask with white straps and different sized crystals attached to all around the left side of it. She remembered this; she used it in a middle school Science Fair project. Staring at it for over a minute, she slipped it on. She stands up and gets her to her feet, closing the closet before making her leave back down the steps.
Once she reached the first floor, she spotted the tan jacket she always wore, it was her father's originally, but snatching that as well before going out the way she came. She always had in the back of her mind if she'd ever come across Michael, he did say in his letter he would, which is something she also taken with her after leaving the house.
She checked the streets before crossing, she was going back to the Myers house, honestly not caring if he showed up or not, she knew he was coming, if he wasn't already. She entered the house and locks the door once again. Making a deep sigh as she adjusted her mask, but something felt... off, this time she entered the house. She felt eyes on her, she walked further in then stopped after a few steps.
"Michael." She called out suddenly. "You're here, I know you are..."
The silence was the only answer she received but listened intently. Then the sound of slow footsteps interrupted, becoming louder. Lorelei turned her head in the direction.
Standing the doorway of the living room was a tall figure in a white mask and dressed in navy blue coveralls, he wielded a chef's knife in his right hand.
Most normal people would have screamed bloody murder and ran out like a bat out of hell. She didn't, she turned to fully face him, they both stared at each other for what felt like hours.
"Well, Michael, we meet after all these years..." Lorelei decided to break the silence, she took a step closer, Michael watched her every move, looking into each other eyes, trying to read one another. His head tilts to one side but doesn't say one word.
This was when Michael reached into a pocket of his with his free hand, and took out a folded piece of paper, holding it out to her. She hesitated, but she takes it and starts to unfold it, tilting her head at it, reading the writing.
"This was... the letter I sent you." She looked back up at him, he was just staring. "So, you did keep it after all this time." Michael nodded to this. She thinks a moment, then moved the side of her jacket and reached inside an inner pocket and takes out an envelope and held it out to him.
He looks down at it in her hand, setting his knife on a table to look at it. He took the letter out, seeing it was same one he sent her a week after she got out of jail. Then he noticed writing on the back of the envelope where Lorey wrote his hidden message from his letter. His gaze turned right back to hers.
"Your one clever man Michael Myers." Lorelei smiled but was hidden by her mask.
"...As you are a smart woman, Lorelei Lorraine."
