Hello Everyone!
Hope you're all having a wonderful holiday season. This is honestly my favorite time of the year, the spirit of it all and plus just the energy in the air. Ah, I love it so much!
Finally got this done. I really wanted to get another chapter out before Christmas, both because I know I'm going to be busy and also because I wanted to give you all a small gift. :)
So without further ado please enjoy and, as always, be sure to leave a comment telling me how I did. What you liked, what you didn't like, etc. I need feedback if I wish to get better (which I do).
Jaune Arc inspected his outfit in the full body mirror he and Pyrrha had in their bedroom. He was wearing a simple outfit: beige shorts, black and white sneakers, a wristwatch, and a black shirt with horizontal white stripes. His hair was pulled back in its usual wolf tail. Satisfied, he nodded to himself with a smile and turned to the bathroom.
"Pyr, you almost ready?"
"Coming, Jaune." came the melodious reply of his wife as she stepped out from their master bathroom. She wore a simple white t-shirt that hugged her upper body well, a red and white striped sweater tied around her waist, a long skirt that went down to her ankles that was colored a similar beige to his shorts, and simple white sneakers. Her hair was loose down her back with a tie at the very end, keeping it all together.
She looked at Jaune, her shining emeralds meeting his deep sapphires and smiled. Jaune couldn't help it as his heart rate skyrocketed. It always did whenever she smiled at him. Long ago, back at Beacon, he learned to tell her polite smiles apart from her genuine ones. The ones that reached her eyes. She always gave him her genuine ones.
She slightly tilted her head to the side, her crimson locks swaying slightly. "Shall we head out?"
"Y-yeah." He nodded. "Let's go." Dammit, he stuttered. He could not help it. She always did this to him, whether she knew it or not. She was just so stunning.
She giggled and nudged his shoulder with hers as she walked past him, into the hallway, and down the stairs, with him following close behind.
"Kids, it's time to go!" he called out as he reached the bottom.
"'We're ready dad!'" came a duo of voices.
Walking into the living room was his oldest, Alma, and second oldest, Plum.
Alma was a mix of her two parents, wearing a short sleeve Pumpkin Pete hoodie that jaune had gotten for her when she expressed interest in his old hoodie, short, cropped jean shorts with the bottoms cuffed, a red sash tied around her waist reminiscent of her mothers, and simple brown boots. Her brother, Plum, wore a sleeveless button up beige vest over a black and white striped shirt, like his father's, red shorts, black and white sneakers and clutched tightly to his chest in one arm was his favorite Pumpkin Pete stuffed toy.
Alma herself was pushing a stroller, inside of which was their youngest Limone, in his blue onesie and white bib, while Fresa, their second youngest clad in her white Pumpkin Pete hooded onesie, was holding on to her older brother's hand.
As soon as the two parents walked into the room Fresa made her way to her father and looked up to him with arms extended while making grabby motions. Jaune let out an amused huff with a smile and bent down to acquiesce to his daughter's request. "Aww." he cooed while lifting her up, "you want to be with daddy?"
His daughter simply leaned her head against his shoulder and nodded.
Pyrrha giggled.
"Alright." Jaune spoke up. "Arc family, let's roll out!"
"Yaaaaaayy!" His family cheered with fists held high.
Alma and Jaune were at the front of their family formation, with Alma pushing the stroller and Jaune carrying Fresa. Behind them, Pyrrha walked while holding Plum's hand, both of them silently content.
"Daddy?" Alma asked without taking her eyes off the sidewalk in front of her.
"Yes sweetie?"
"How much longer 'till we get there?"
"Mmmm. About another thirty minutes or so."
"Mmmkay."
They could have driven. They had two cars in their driveway. But it was such a beautiful day out that it seemed like a waste not to enjoy it. It was the transition point between seasons, where the rising heat of Summer was offset with the cool breezes of Spring making for beautiful and sunny days while not being too hot. The perfect kind of day for a walk through Vale.
Making their way through the commercial district they passed by a myriad of shops. Restaurants, bookstores, Dust shops, small cafés, and clothing stores. In a few of the latter they even saw advertisements for the newly released "Coffee Collection" by Coco Adel.
Jaune let out a silent chuckle as he recalled how Pyrrha was asked who designed her outfit in an interview once when the host didn't recognize the style. Pyrrha told them that Coco, a close friend from Beacon, had and ever since then the fashionista team leader has been the talk of the fashion world. Unsurprisingly, in Jaune's opinion.
Exiting the commercial district, they passed through Vale Central Park. Limone babbled and giggled excitedly in the stroller as they passed the various geese and ducks that walked along the edge of the large lake. While behind him he could hear Plum asking his mother about the various birds they saw. They even passed a few of the Huntsmen focused public workout areas. Currently it was filled with a group of young children going through various exercise forms, led by what Jaune assumed was a Huntress, if her colorful clothing was anything to go by.
After leaving the park, the family entered one of the many residential side streets. The criss crossing roads made for a confusing maze if one did not have a GPS or know where they were going. However, Jaune and Pyrrha had been this way enough times to know the exact route to take. Jaune noticed that as they neared their destination, Alma began to look around with a large grin.
"You seem excited." he said, looking down at her.
"Mhm," she nodded. "It's been forever since I've seen Frigga and Freya."
Another ten minutes and a few streets later and the Arc family was stood before a large single-story Mistralian style home, the design sticking out in the middle of a Valean neighborhood. The wind chimes hanging on the front porch tolled as they swayed in the slight breeze and a small pond and artificial river flowed across the yard.
Suddenly the front door flew open and standing in the doorway was a young girl with ginger orange hair and bright pink eyes. She looked at the Arcs with a large toothy grin and upon seeing Alma, her grin grew even more. The oldest Arc daughter reciprocated with a wide grin of her own and soon the dam broke, as both ran at each other.
"ALMA!"
"FREYA!"
Both girls met in the middle in a huge hug, jumping and giggling together in glee.
Pyrrha let out a giggle of her own as she watched the two. "Freya definitely takes after her mother."
Jaune let out a smile and nodded in agreement before a realization dawned on him. "Speaking of, hold our daughter please." He said as he passed Fresa over into Pyrrha's waiting arms, and then braced.
"JAAUUUNNEEYYYYYYY!" Not soon after, Jaune was slammed in the side by a ginger and pink missile. His Aura flared as it both absorbed the impact and powered his Semblance, increasing his strength. The force of the impact caused him to skid about a foot and a half, but he managed to stay standing.
Once he stopped sliding, Jaune looked down to a head of bright orange hair. "Hey Nora," he said with a chuckle. The head turned up and the familiar face of Team JNPR's energetic grenadier looked at him and smiled.
"Nora," called another voice, "I am fairly sure I told you not to slam into him like that. You are lucky he handed Fresa off."
Walking down the paved path from the porch came Lie Ren, the stoic and calm member of JNPR and Nora's partner, in more ways than one. He stopped and pulled his pouting wife away from their team leader by the back of her collar and gave the man he considered a brother a small smile.
"It's good to see you again Jaune."
"You too Ren."
"Aww Renny" Nora huffed still being held back by her husband, "It's not like we see them all the time. Besides, Jaune's Mr. Muscles now, you saw how he took it."
"I'm pretty sure that was more my Semblance than actual body strength Nora." Jaune countered.
The ginger bomber for her part merely waved it off with a laugh.
As the adults conversed, young Plum stood off to the side, watching his Aunt Nora animatedly talk with his uncle and father. He did not notice another figure slowly sidle up to him until she spoke.
"H-hey Plum."
Turning he saw that it was another young girl, similar in age to her twin sister. She had black hair and teal eyes and wore a simple green knitted sweater with sleeves that were a bit too long, a black skirt, white shin high socks, and Mary-jane shoes.
"Hey Frigga." he greeted back with a smile. "It's good to see you again."
Frigga looked down shyly, with a small smile and blush on her cheeks. "Y-yeah. It's good to see you again too."
An awkward silence stretched between the two until a slight cough drew their attention to the tall crimson haired woman next to them.
"Hi Auntie Pyrrha."
"Hello Frigga." she said with a smile. "Why don't you take Plum and go play. Both of your sisters have already gone off anyway." Both children looked at the last place they saw their siblings and sure enough both were already missing. Probably went to go play in the large backyard, if either had to guess.
Frigga reached out tentatively and took Plums free hand in her own. "C'mon" she said, "Let's go to the backyard a-and see what they're up to." Plum nodded in response with a smile, which only caused the young girl's blush to grow as she led him off to find where their sisters were playing. Much to Pyrrha's amusement.
"Like father like son as well it seems." she said to herself.
Soon all four adults found themselves seated and talking in the living room on a plush sectional sofa as the children played outside; a coffee table in the center held a wide array of snacks.
"So how have things been with you two?" asked Ren as he put his mug of steaming tea onto the coaster on the table.
"Pretty good." responded Jaune. "I've been keeping the homestead, while Pyr has been doing that new competition commentator gig."
Pyrrha blushed from the sudden attention. For a year now she had been a regular commentator on the competition circuit, which made sense given that even now she still held the record for the most consecutive wins in Mistral's Regional Tournament. Television gigs already paid well by default, television gigs for former Huntsmen/Huntresses and athletes were even better. But a television gig for both a Huntress AND an athlete, and not just any athlete but the "Invincible Girl" herself? Safe to say there was no need for Jaune to work anymore.
"It's only for a few more years." Added Pyrrha, somewhat embarrassed. "After that, the contract expires."
"You two must be happy with that. Four kids sure can't be cheap, and knowing Jauney's family history, I'm sure more are on the way huh?" Snickered Nora with a cheeky grin.
Jaune took a sip of his water to hide his blush while Pyrrha stammered a response. "W-well I mean when it happens, it happens, plus as you said: it runs in his family."
"Uh huh" Nora deadpanned. "And I'm sure the fact that you leg-lock him every time has nothing to do with it."
A beautiful rainbow formed in the middle of the Valkyrie-Ren living room as Jaune did a spit take and Pyrrha's face turned as bright red as her hair. "NORA!" The former champion shrieked in embarrassment as her ginger teammate cackled in delight and Ren sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
The sun had already set by the time the Arc family made their way back home, and unlike the morning, this time they had decided to take public transportation back due to the children wearing themselves out playing. Something both parents were grateful for as they were able to put the kids to sleep without much issue.
Jaune carried Fresa and Limone up while Pyrrha got Alma and Plum ready for bed. After he finished tucking both in, he made his way to the door to their room and paused, his hand hovering over the light switch, and looked back one last time. He watched as their chests rose and fell, both sleeping peacefully, and smiling.
"Sweet dreams," he whispered, flicking the light switch off and gently closing the door with a soft -click-.
And there it is! Hope you all enjoyed this one as well. Kudos once again to efr-s for creating such wonderful and inspiring art. Never would have thought of this without you!
For anyone wondering, yes what they are wearing in the story is the same as the cover art.
Happy Holidays! And see you all in 2023!
