Chapter 6: The Brainstorm
Note: I have a silly but fun idea from the mind battle. This chapter might be on the short side because I am setting everything up in this chapter. I need a little more time to completely finish the contest, but I still said I would get a Chapter up this week so this is it. I know I said it would be this chapter, but I just need a little more time. I don't know why my last chapter uploaded so weirdly.
They didn't really know what Todd and Lovett were doing up there. All they knew was that it sounded like they were wrestling and doing something a little more adult. "They sound like they're having fun," Toby said. "Lets ignore them and focus" Johanna said. "We need a way for them to have a battle of wits," Anthony said. Toby stood up and started to pace around his room.
"We know they are evenly matched in strength," he said. "And being able to outsmart someone is the ultimate wits battle." "What about a game of chess?" Johanna asked. "Too obvious of a choice" Toby said. "What else could they do?" asked Anthony. "Johanna?" Toby asked.
"If this is too much to ask, tell me and I'll apologize. But did you ever, you know, have to outsmart the judge?" "It's no trouble at all, but I managed to sneak out once." "That isn't much of a competition though" Anthony said. They heard a loud crash coming from Lovetts bedroom. YOU BROKE THE BED YOU BRUTE!" they heard Lovett scream.
"I'LL FIX IT LIKE I FIXED MY BARBERS CHAIR!" "YOU BETTER OR YOU OWE ME A NEW BED! "They are acting like children," Anthony moaned. "That gives me an idea," Toby added. Back at the workhouse, sometimes if we could get away from the adults we liked to engage in prank wars." "You think they would do something so childish?" Johanna asked.
"Considering what happened upstairs," Toby said. "Point taken." "So tomorrow morning we will tell them about our plan" Anthony said. Johanna and Anthony left Toby's room to sleep in the living room. I hope they go for it, Toby thought as he laid down. I hope Mr Todd fixes mum's bed.
Next morning Toby awoke to see his mum laying on the chair in her living room. She had rings under her eyes and looked exhausted. Morning mum, you look tired. "Mr Todd broke my bed last night and he just finished fixing it." "We know" Toby said "We heard you yelling last night." "You did?" Lovett asked nervously. "Where's Mr Todd?" Toby asked, dodging her question.
"He's taking a walk with Johanna and Anthony." "He is angry about having to fix the bed?" Toby asked. "He was, but he got over it before they left." "When they get back, We have an idea on how you two can match wits with each other." "You were busy last night then?" "It might seem childish when you hear it, but I think it's worth a shot."
"Our strength contests were childish," Lovett told him. "I know, but please give it a chance." After a few hours Sweeney, Anthony, and Johanna returned. "I am glad you are back Mr Todd" Toby said. "What is it boy?" Sweeney asked. "Me, Anthony, and Johanna have a way you can test your minds."
Sweeney raised his eyebrow. "You two should engage in a prank war." Sweeney and Lovett exchanged glances. "I actually already had an idea," Sweeney told him. "Aw really" Toby said. "Mrs Lovett.
I think you and I should see who has the most general knowledge." "I read quite a bit in my spare time Mr Todd. You sure you don't want to stick to the prank war idea." "I am smarter than you think, my pet." Mrs Lovett turned to the other three and cleared her throat. "You three brainstorm for good questions.
Me and Mr Todd will meet up here tomorrow morning." "Alright" Johanna said. "I was looking forward to the prank war but this is OK." They agreed they would prepare for the contest.
Note: Sorry for the short chapter, and the prank war idea will become relevant in the epilogue, so bringing one up will not have been pointless. There are only two more chapters to go when you count the epilogue. So next week the mind battle begins.
