Author's Notes:This was supposed to be a 100 word Javier/Eloise drabble, as I can't write romance. It got out of hand. This is for roseandheather.

This doesn't have great romance writing, but I tried.

They first met soon after her commissioning as a StateSec commissioner, and their love was sometimes the one thing that kept each other sane.

"Honey… Ellie… I… I love you. I need you." pleads Javier, trying not to sound awkward, after pulling her into his quarters. What if this goes wrong, and she tries to kill me?

No, I need her, and I think she loves me back.

What if this goes wrong? You're a naval officer, just treat it like a tac plan, with a backup plan.

Naval officers aren't supposed to fall in love with their StateSec supervisor People's Commissioner.

Well, she wasn't supposed to be so hot!

Eloise replies, "Javi, I love you too." and reaches out to embrace him. Whew. We both love each other and can admit it, at least here. I guess those problems are solved. He reaches back, holding her and their lips meet quickly, before Eloise's communicator beeps. He quickly takes his arms off her, and she quickly answers, "Citizen Commissioner Pritchart here."

The face on the other end of the holoscreen is that of Oscar Saint-Just, Eloise's boss as Chief of the Office of State Security, "Citizen Commissioner Pritchart, a report on your Admiral." Those last two words are accurate in more than one way, but I can't afford to let that show. I need to use my skills from my Aprilist days to hide it from someone as skilled as him. I must remember to hide my true loyalties behind the mask of "StateSec commissioner" perfectly, or we'll both be dead. Remember that hope still lives, if only in embers compared to Michèle Péricard's Republic of Haven.

"Ellie, you must keep this knowledge secret. I'm serious. To reveal this could mean you being shot. But not just you. They'd come after others." her mother, Gabrielle Pritchart says. Eloise is a teenager, and her blonde hair is braided down her neck to keep it out of her face.

"I promise, mother." she replies.

"Once upon a time, before the Committee, there was a true Republic of Haven. Its first President was Michèle Péricard."

"The same one Péricard Tower is named after?"

"Yes, though with the way the government is now, they're disrespecting her memory. She believed in democracy, and would have hated the way the government is now. "

"Really?" she asks.

Her mother nods, before continuing, "Promise me you'll remember her. Promise me you'll never be as bad as people like Citizen Committeewoman Ransom."

"I promise, mother."

"He's very loyal to the People and helps teach the Political Education class for officers. He cares more about the People than his own life, as he throws himself into the face of danger to protect others. He has a streak of recklessness, but is otherwise a promising officer."

Author's Notes: I know Eloise's mom died before the CoPS. I tried, but didn't catch that glaring canon error until now.
