Missed Chances - Chapter 1 - Prologue
A Skase story was requested, and while I love this ship I didn't want to write the typical ship story. I hope you enjoy. Please comment.
As usual I have no idea how long this will be.
It has been five years since the Paw Patrol had shut down and everything had been turned over to local emergency agencies. Many of the pups were still in the area, but many had left and only occasionally returned.
The only couple that remained was Marshall and Everest, after Jake's unexpected passing Everest had shut down for a few years. Marshall of course couldn't leave the fire service. He had initially worked as a Firefighter / Medic for Adventure Bay Fire Department. They quickly realized he had more potential. That and his twin sister had put in a good word with the Fire Chief. He was raised to the rank of Captain and took over training of all the departments fire pups, however the human firefighters kept going to Marshall's training so often the chief decided he should just take over all training. After starting in therapy Everest along with her supportive mate had returned to the Mountain and reopened the Ski Lodge. Everest and Marshall had been very surprised to find out that in addition to owning the mountain, Jake had left her and Marshall a large trust fund that would cover the expenses for the lodge as well as their comfortable living. Everest had added a runway and helipad to the lodge since her best friend Skye would occasionally visit but also flew travelers to the lodge.
Rubble was still in the area, he had built a large construction company and was traveling often because he had construction projects all over the country. Zuma had surprised everyone and attended college becoming a licensed Physical Ed teacher he now coached the Adventure Bay High School Swim Team, they had won state for the last three years and this year was already looking good. Rocky had not surprised anyone when he attended college to get his engineering degree. He had been recruited by an aerospace company and simply told everyone the company built airplane parts, everyone had a feeling it was more but he wouldn't talk.
Ryder had married Katie and she was finishing Veterinary College. Ryder had been recognized for his ability to train animals to accomplish great feats. As a result he had published several animal training books. He also taught police and military canine courses all over the place. It was by his recommendation that Chase got the offer.
Chase never got the nerve to ask Skye to be his girlfriend and although he loved his new life, he regretted his lack of confidence everyday.
Skye had finally given up hope that Chase was going to settle when he agreed to his current assignment. Skye lived for flying and began branching into bigger aircraft and got her commercial license. She now flew charter flights in her new Bombardier Challenger 3500 private jet. She still flew a MH-65 Dolphin Eurocopter. It was still rigged for rescue but as she thought her rescue days were over. Since Chase left she just didn't have the heart for it anymore.
Chase had joined the Army was trained as not only a bomb detection K9, he was the first canine bomb technician to be cleared for duty. He traveled constantly and proudly could claim having stepped foot on all 7 continents. Although there wasn't much call for bomb techs in Antartica he still felt he needed to go in order to complete his world claim. It was just as cold as he remembered when they first found Everest. He had sent Everest a picture of her igloo that was still standing after all these years. Regardless of the awards, medals, accommodations, and overall accomplishments in his heart he knew his greatest failure was having never asked Skye to be his girlfriend. He had tried dating but no one was what he knew in his heart he wanted. He was sure she had moved on.
Skye loved her flight business 'Skyes the Limit' and had flown many celebrities and VIPs all over the world. She had tried dating but just never found anyone that filled the void. She followed Chase's accomplishments, at least the declassified ones that made the news. She always saw swooning females around him, she was sure he had moved on.
