Megaman X - Fusion (Part 2)

X stood on the tarmac, studying various data packets being sent to the entire attack force. He was waiting for his squadmates, codenamed Crash and Rezan. Their real names were just numbers, new issue personnel that just made the cut. Crash had already developed a notorious, reckless personality, and X intended to see the new training take care of that. Nothing in commands orders made that so, he just wanted to deal with insubordination when it occurred.

"Commander!" Someone yelled south of his position. X turned to look, and saw Crash and Rezan making their way quickly towards him. X smiled, finally it was time to prepare his orders. He quickly tallied up the requirements for the mission, and compiled an executable order list. Crash and Rezan finally caught up to him, both quickly standing at attention.

"Crash reporting for duty, sir!" Crash said, his blue armor glinting in the sun. On his helmet he had engraved a skull, something to send a message to those who might find his remains. X didn't care for it, but said nothing, it was typical of new recruits.

"Rezan reporting, sir!" Rezan bellowed.

X nodded, inspecting their armor for damage. He noticed nothing, so he made a hand gesture towards the speeders.

"These are your vehicles today," X said, noting their enthusiasm, "I know you've spent alot of time in the simulator with these, so I don't have to worry about you getting left behind, but you should know this mission won't entirely be on the speeder. You'll need your wits and your good faith in the operation to succeed. If you fail that, report it to me at once."

"Yeah, don't want Maverick patrol on ya!" Crash snorted, laughing, "Can't they just leave us alone for a change?"

"Not your position to argue that, Crash," X said, suspiciously, "Tell me you're not feeling the waves, right now."

"No waves here, sir," Crash said hesitantly, "Don't worry about me, I'm tight!"

X looked at Rezan, inquiring about the same without words. Rezan looked at him, then shook his head.

"Good, you're both going to be following my lead on this. When we arrive at the back entrance of the facility there will be action. The facility is 23km northwest of this position, on a cliff facing the Nazarene Sea. We'll take the rear and penetrate into the facility where Dr. Lazarus, our prime target, is being held. We need to wait for Forces A and B to attack the base to provide a diversion, and then we'll make our move."

X paused. He usually worked alone, and he needed them to follow every order. He thought of an appropriate thing to say, and finally made up his mind.

"If you want to work alone, I suggest joining the enemy, for they are forever alone. I don't like fighting, but I have to, and today I'm fighting alongside you. You won't see me argue that in front of you today, and I don't want any of it coming from you. Do I make myself clear? No special treatment because you wanna wing it alone!"

"Yes sir!" Crash and Rezan both replied. X heard a beep coming from his communicator, and opened the channel. Silence for a moment, then Alia's voice came over the intercom.

"Attention Maverick Hunter Force A and B. Mission is a go, prepare for mission start in 10 minutes."

X nodded, signalling Crash and Rezan to mount their speeders.

"Let's go!" X ordered.

"Yes, sir!"

Are Fayr walked through the plaza to the Gugen Arms facility, where his mission awaited him. Today, he was supposed to infiltrate this facility under a codename, Dr. Elheim Novlak, and grab the weapon he had been told exists in the lower recesses of the building. Walking east, he passed by some kiosks selling toys and novelties, as well as some food. Such things were commonplace about the city, in front of buildings and homes alike.

He finally appeared at the entrance of the building. Looking up, he could only see the almost infinite stretch of the building into the sky. He collected himself, and then entered the building.

Gugen Arms reception area was a little bit drab, for Are's tastes. He didn't like the simplicity of the design, only thinking to himself how everything could be improved. He approached the receptionist with a bit of flair he had developed to further disguise himself.

"Hello, and how can I help you?" Said the receptionist.

"Yes, Dr. Novlak here, signing in" Are said, presenting his ID card. It was of course a fake, but he had to present it, otherwise security would swarm the area.

The receptionist took the card and swiped it across a terminal. Typing a few things into it, he turned to Are and smiled.

"Thank you, Dr. Novlak, the elevators to the lab are there on the right," Said the receptionist, "Ahuga!"

Ahuga meant goodbye in Ogg Dagyar, which the receptionist belonged to. It wasn't common to say, so Are smiled and said it back. Walking towards the elevator, security began eyeing him up, but did nothing. Are was thankful, he didn't need this mission to go awry too quickly. He pressed the button, patiently waiting for the elevator. He tuned into the conversation the security guards were having, something about a rebel within their ranks. He noted a rebel was never good to have among you as a faction, demanding loyalty, but said nothing.

The elevator finally arrived, making a small chime as it opened it's doors. Two figures emerged from it, talking between themselves. Are listened to their conversation as he made his way into the elevator.

"And you think that could have some impact on the environment?" One said.

"Well, what do you think? Does Seluzium really make a difference here? It's able to break down more readily, certainly the Hashamaarrah will inquire upon this point!" Said the other.

"Well that would be one thing to think about, yes! If we could only harness the power of Kezin and make it more readily available, then we could do away with Selezium, such a-"

The conversation muted as the doors closed behind Are. He pressed the button to take him for the lab, and checked his watch. Eventually, they would find out that ID was a fake, and he had to move quickly. He tapped his leg as he waited for the elevator to descend. His datapad beeped, and so he pulled it out of his pocket to check it. Unit 1 was in position with Units 2 and 3, waiting for him.

The elevator doors opened, making it's chime, and Are walked furiously towards the lab where the weapon was being held. He memorized the directions from the layout he had studied. Left, left, right, and...

Are entered the lab where the weapon was resting. Strangely, a man was there, and Are knew him well. It was Hoy Gugen, the owner of Gugen Arms, and he was holding the weapon in his hand.

"You need this, but you need me first," Hoy said, "Do you know what this is?"

Are said nothing. Hoy smiled, and looked away for a moment. Then his gaze returned to Are, seriousness in his eyes.

"This weapon has the power to crush any force in the world," Hoy said, "It's currently awaiting a device implant, activating it's final strike capability. If I give it to you, do you promise to complete it?"

Are said nothing. Why would he interact with his man? He moved closer, then noticed Hoy had a charge placed upon the weapon. It wasn't very large, but it was enough to destroy it for certain if detonated. Hoy waved the controller for the bomb in front of Are, smiling.

"Don't worry, I do this for you in the event you get caught, so you don't have to scramble with an escape plan," Hoy said, "Nobody will pursue you if you threaten to destroy the weapon, I will make them obey."

"Why are you doing this?" Are finally asked.

"Because I want the world to be free!" Hoy exclaimed, "Don't you know I have to give this weapon to the separatists or my family will die? I want them to die, and myself, but I played it off very well, I must admit. You need to deliver it to them and make sure that you find a way to stop the process of implanting the final components. This will save my family, and engage the conspiracy for you. If you try very hard, I'm sure you'll be able to interdict that effort, but no guarantees."

"I'm not bringing this thing anywhere-" Are said, but was interrupted by a siren. The ID had been found to be fake, for sure, so he had to move.

"You need to leave, and I'm being very weird with you about this whole thing," Hoy said, looking down at the floor, "I would suggest taking my advice, or you'll never make it very far. I can do alot for you in this way..."

Hoy's voice trailed off. Are contemplated, it could be a useful ploy, but he was playing right into the hand of the enemy. No time now.

"Fine, done!" Are said, extending his hand, "The device?"

Hoy laughed, and tossed it to him, followed by the remote for the bomb. Are heard the elevator chimes, and took off. Left, right, right, left...

He finally made it to the dead end. He pulled out his datapad, and called the units waiting for him.

"Blow it, now!" Are yelled as the response came over the mike.

He hid behind a wall nearby, and an explosion rocked the basement. He came around the wall, moving towards the hole just made in the opposite wall. Grabbing a rope, he began to be lifted up by an automatic motor above, pulling Are towards safety. Unit 1 lifted him out of the hole. Are looked around, noticing Unit's 2 and 3 standing there as well.

"Pack it up, let's go!" Are ordered. They didn't have long, as the security forces would no doubt reach this place soon. Unit 1 and 2 grabbed the equipment and they moved out on the double.
