Dr. Heywood Floyd, head of the National Council of Astronautics is a prominent character in 2001: A Space Odyssey. He also appears in 2010: Odyssey Two as one of the astronauts who returns to Jupiter to find out what happened. Story follows the movie plot, Discovery travels to Jupiter. Part 4: 2004.

Heywood Floyd and Caroline Sanchez were married in 2004. The University of Hawaii helped to organise a big wedding party, Floyd's two daughters from his dead first wife were both bridesmaids. The only other representatives of his past life who attended the wedding were his Russian friends Elena and Ivan and his old deputy at the National Council of Astronautics, Dr. Victor Milson.
Floyd carried on with his new life and new wife in Hawaii, he did his work helping to run the University and once in a while got to help the professional astronomers at the University of Hawaii telescope on Mauna Kea. He would occasionally speak on the phone with Dr. Milson and his former colleagues from the NCA, and sometimes attend space science conferences. Any requests from the news media for an interview were politely turned down, the relative isolation of Hawaii helped with his privacy. Floyd made a start on his memoirs.
