In 2007 Heywood Floyd finally finished his memoirs. He decided that he didn't want to publicise the memoirs, he had them quietly published for posterity by the University of Hawaii press, any money raised from the sale of his memoirs went to the Hawaii dolphin sanctuary. The memoirs did serve one other purpose. Floyd would still get requests from the news media for interviews but he would just send them details of his memoirs. Floyd suspected that a significant proportion of the small trickle of book sales were from members of the news media.
Floyd was far more proud of two other publications with his name on which came out in 2007. For the first time in over 20 years he was an author on two papers published in astronomical journals. His efforts at helping out at the University of Hawaii telescope on Mauna Kea were rewarded.
In the mean time the problems with the construction of Discovery II continued. Dr. Curnow and his team had finally sorted out the computer problems to have a HAL free spacecraft but budget problems meant that the earliest that Discovery II would fly would be 2010.
