An idea I had while Fawks, Dogmeat, and my first LW were in Megaton. Hope you enjoy!
The raiders couldn't believe it. The damned robot that had kept them out for years was inactive, and the sniper up top was shouting warnings. Now all the bounty of Megaton was theirs for the taking! The lead raider let out a war cry and they rushed the gate, all the fifteen or twenty of them getting it open and heading for the town...
Only when they got in, they saw a truly frightening sight. A freaking Super Mutant was there at the gate holding a gatling laser and grinning. Behind it was a dude with an assault rifle and a cowboy hat, and some freak in power armor who was holding a weird looking rifle with one hand and petting a growling dog with the other.
"Shall I kill them?" the Super Mutant asked.
"Come on Fawks, we should at least give them a chance to surrender." The power armor wearing one replied with a feminine giggle.
Most of the raiders were intimidated, but the leader was either braver or dumber than the rest. "Come on, it's just three assholes and their mutt! We can take em!" he shouted, encouraging most of the others they had a fighting chance.
They were quickly dissuaded of the notion as the Super Mutant revved his weapon and fired, laughing maniacally. Five of them died before they could point their rifles. The power armored one fired her weird energy weapon and two more turned into piles of ash. The cowboy fired his own rifle and six more died. The dog lunged after a quick whistle from his master and tore out one raider's throat before grabbing another's arm, yanking it out of its socket as Power Armor shot that one too, making the poor fool explode in a shower of gore.
The "battle" was over in a matter of about ten seconds in all, and the only survivor was a cowering girl who had been in the back of the party. "P-please. If I don't do what they say, they'll kill my sister!" she groveled.
A hand laid on her shoulder, and the last survivor looked up to see a beautiful blonde with emerald eyes looking back. "Tell me everything." she ordered softly.
"They're holding her in Paradise Falls." the survivor replied, not sure why but feeling like she could trust this woman.
"Paradise Falls? I cleared that place out months ago!" the blonde gasped in shock.
"A new clan probably saw it empty and moved in." the cowboy suggested. "Not the first time something like that happened."
"I assume we're making a rescue, my friend?" the Super Mutant asked in a guttral growl.
"Can't leave the place defensless." the blonde replied, glancing at the gate. "I'll get to work on the bot. Dogmeat, with me. Fawkes, you take our new guest to the shack. I'm sure she'll behave." she ordered, the last sentence coming out almost teasingly.
The survivor nodded frantically, not eager to be cut down like the rest of these poor dumb bastards.
...
Hannah, H to her friends, the Lone Wanderer to the wasteland, slid on her power armor helmet and hoisted her alien disintegrator. "Alright Fawkes, quick and brutal. And make sure you don't shoot the slaves." she ordered.
"Of course. Let's begin the fun!" Fawkes laughed, both of them looking down at the camp.
"Also, on the off chance you see a teddy bear around, be sure to grab it. I was gonna go check the status of The Pitt next week." she added, remembering the less than pleasant venture. "Alright, let's go!" she ordered, rushing the gate to the camp, Dogmeat on her heels and Fawkes cackling madly.
The slavers never knew what hit them as they were gunned down and turned to ash, H just shooting the lock when she found the slave pens. "Alright, where's Delia?" she asked.
"I-I'm Delia." one girl spoke up.
She can't be older than Maggie. the blonde thought as she knelt down to eye level with the girl. "Well Maggie, your sister sent me to rescue you." she explained softly.
"Max? Max sent you to save me?" Delia asked hopefully.
"Yeah. And I'm gonna take you to her." H promised, shouldering her weapon and picking the girl up before surveying the rest of the slaves. "The rest of you head to the Canturbery Commoms. Tell them H sent you, they'll give you a warm bed for the night. You can figure out what to do after that." she said, the slaves making a run for it.
As H brought the girl out of the pens, Fawkes came around the corner with a teddy bear and a toy car in one giant hand. Delia shivered in fear at the Super Mutant, hiding her face in H's shoulder. "I see you found the sister." the Super Mutant growled.
"Yeah, was surprisingly easy this time around, must have sent the bulk of their forces to Megaton." H reasoned before Dogmeat barked an all clear. "Looks like we got em all. What do you say we head home?" H suggested, setting Delia down as her faithful canine companion came running around the corner, passing Fawkes and coming right to Delia.
Delia giggled as Dogmeat sniffed her before giving her a big lick on her grubby cheek. "That tickles!" she laughed.
"Alright Delia, we're going to where I live, but I need to be able to shoot my gun, so I need you to stay extra close to me and Dogmeat." H instructed lightly.
"OK!" Delia agreed as the small group trekked back across the wasteland.
...
Maxine, or Max to most people, watched the gate from H's bedroom window. The cowboy(Simms, she reminded herself), had said she would be safe here as long as she didn't cause trouble, but she didn't want to chance it so for the most part she just stuck to the little two bedroom shack. Most of her was worried about her sister, but part of her couldn't believe she was in the house of the Lone Wanderer, her canine companion, and her walking tank of a Mutie(who played a mean game of cards, she found out while she waited for H to fix the bot).
She was the terror of every raider and slaver in the wasteland, and she was helping her! A slaver who was going to raid her hometown! Max couldn't believe she was so nice...or pretty. The former raider blushed slightly and shook her head of the thoughts.
As she did, she heard the gate open, and the giant green man came in with...a little girl on his shoulders? Wait, she knew that little girl! Sprinting down the stairs, Max practically threw the door open and ran to the gate. "DELIA!" she screamed in tearful relief.
"Max!" Delia shouted as Fawkes put her down. Once her feet hit dirt, she ran into her sister's arms. The sisters shared a tearful reunion while H watched from her best friend's side, Dogmeat panting happily as the little human met her kin. "The nice lady saved me!" Delia declared, beginning to ramble about the trio that had come to her rescue.
"Th-that's wonderful sweetie." Max said between sobs. "I-I need to talk to the nice lady for a minute."
"Oh, ok!" Delia said as she walked right over to H and asked, "Can I play with Dogmeat and Mister Fawkes while you talk with my sister?"
"That good with you two?" H asked, a nod and a bark her response. "Alright, I'll find you guys later. Just be careful." she nodded as the three left the women to talk.
"Thank you. She's all I have in the world. Thank you." Max said with a smile.
"I was happy to." H replied with a smile of her own. "So, what now?"
"I...I guess I should find a place for us to live." Max said uncertainly. "But who would take in a former raider like me? Even with a little kid?"
"We've got Jerico, he's pretty much the same." H shrugged.
"No offense, but you don't look like you have many openings for housing." Max laughed.
H chuckled as well, admitting the point. "Well...at least until you figure something out, you could always stay with me." she offered.
"N-no, I couldn't impose any more than I already have." Max denied. "Besides, there's not really room for us!"
"Well..." H said with a sly smirk. "I have been wanting to expand the house for a while. I was planning on making it a library for whatever books I find in decent shape, but I can make it into a room for you guys for a while." she said. "Would have it done already, but things kept coming up." Max didn't know what to say to that.
Two months later.
Max yawned as she stretched on her mattress. Turned out with a bit of scavenging in the nearby ruined town and school, adding a new floor was easy. She grabbed some casual wear from the filing cabinets that served as her dresser and got dressed for work at Gob's saloon. Then she heard a knock at her door. "Come in!" she called, the door opening to reveal H herself. "Hey, what's up?" she asked.
"I was just making sure you were awake." the blonde replied, "And to tell you that you and your sister may have the house to yourself tonight. I got some stuff to do in the Wasteland today and I may not be back until tomorrow afternoon."
"Got it, thanks." Max nodded to her friend/roommate as she finished buttoning her shirt and combed her black tresses. "You taking Fawkes and Dogmeat with you?"
"Fawkes, yeah. Dogmeat wanted to stick close to Delia so he'll be here to keep you safe."
"I don't need a bodyguard, H." Max scoffed, a hand falling to her laser pistol. "I may not be a raider anymore, but I'm still good with a gun."
"Moriarty found that out up close and personal." H chuckled, remembering how the old bastard had tried to rape Max and gotten his head popped off for his trouble. Still, the blonde wished she could have done the deed herself. "Anyway, I'm heading out not long after you."
"K." Max said as she finished her routine.
"And when I get back..." H trailed off, suddenly nervous.
"What?" Max asked.
"Do you think...I could buy you dinner?" H asked with a blush.
Max knew exactly what to say to that. "Of course. I'd love to have dinner with you, H." she said with a smile as Delia cheered loudly from her room next door.
And done! Well, this ended up longer than I planned. Oh well, I liked it and I hope you all did too. May write another fic or two involving H and my second game LW, Angel. We'll see what happens. Well, leave a review with your thoughts and see you next time!
