Dr. Heywood Floyd, head of the National Council of Astronautics is a prominent character in 2001: A Space Odyssey. He also appears in 2010: Odyssey Two as one of the astronauts who returns to Jupiter to find out what happened. Story follows the movie plot, Discovery travels to Jupiter. Part 10: 2010.

In 2010 Dr. Floyd had another trip to the Very Large Array facility in New Mexico with some of his University of Hawaii astronomical colleagues. Floyd regarded himself as the highest paid research assistant at the University.
At the end of their observing time Floyd was on the gantry of one of the VLA radio telescopes, just admiring the view. Then his life changed totally.
"Dr. Floyd, I am Dr. Moisevitch…."
