"Come on out everyone!" A familiar black-haired boy exclaimed, tossing up five Poké Balls into the air. They all opened simultaneously, releasing the Pokémon inside with a bright, white light. From left to right landed Oshawott, Unfezant, Krookodile, Snivy, and Leavanny, all lined up in front of their trainer.
Iris and Cilan's Pokémon were already out and about by this point, with Excadrill, Crustle, and Stunfisk being off on their own already while the rest hung around.
"You guys can go ahead and play while Cilan makes dinner!" Ash smiled brightly at his Pokémon, as Pikachu hopped down from his shoulder to mingle with the others. All of Ash's Pokémon made sounds of joy at hearing that, all except for a certain green snake.
Snivy was never one to cheer over something as simple as food, after all.
She slithered away from the group as they dispersed, wanting to be alone for the night. Snivy saw that they were surrounded by many trees with no paved road nearby, signaling to her that they were in a forest.
The gang had been traveling to Virbank City so Ash could get his eighth and final gym badge. They back traveled all the way through to Castelia City, where they went the opposite direction from where they initially came from all those months ago. It had been a long journey, and it was nearing its end…
The grass type made her way past trees, trying to find the right one to lay down on up in the treetops. Her head pointed directly up when looking at the top of said trees, and she could see the orange sky past the leaves.
It seems that they were going to have a very late dinner, the snake thought, not thinking too much about it as she finally found a good spot to hang out in. Covered by leaves so Unfezant and Emolga couldn't see her, and the other Pokémon would have to look up to spot her from below.
"Perfect."
Snivy smirked a little, beginning her ascent. Her small leafy paws were good for sneakingly grabbing the bark of the tree to climb higher and quietly. Despite feeling a little tired, her arms were strong enough to carry herself up the tree without needing to use her vines, and within the next minute she was up there.
A long, thick branch extended from out of the tree near the top, and Snivy hoisted herself onto it, laying down with her paws on her stomach as she lazily let a leg hang to the side. It certainly wasn't the most comfortable, but she did want to lay down, even if only for about an hour.
She hung around for roughly ten minutes, before hearing footsteps from below. This made Snivy tense up, and she quickly looked downwards to see who it was. Her eyes landed on Oshawott, who was walking past the tree she was stationed in.
Snivy immediately felt relaxed, letting herself smile at the sight of the otter. She felt her face warm up a little, shaking it off as she didn't want to stare at him, even without him knowing.
The snake couldn't deny her crush on the otter no matter how hard she tried. By this point she just accepted it, understanding what her feelings were towards him.
Snivy decided to readjust her position, looking away from Oshawott and shifting in her seat. She overcompensated though, shifting more than she meant to. Her balance was a little off today, so she accidentally tipped over the branch, sending the snake into freefall.
"Waugh!" Snivy exclaimed, not expecting to fall out of her spot. She didn't even fix her position in the air, nor did she use her vines to catch herself, allowing her body to just… fall.
Oshawott heard her yell in surprise, quickly turning around to find the source of the sound. He arrived just in time to see Snivy fall onto the ground on her left side, making the otter cringe upon hearing the thud and seeing the impact of the drop.
The snake pushed herself up, quietly hissing in pain as she sat against the tree she just fell out of. She looked ahead, seeing Oshawott running towards her. Snivy's breath hitched slightly, both from getting the wind knocked out of her and from being nervous.
"Oh geez, are you okay Snivy? That fall must have hurt!" Oshawott frantically spoke, staring at the snake with wide open eyes. He also crouched down to be on Snivy's level of sight.
"Eh, I'm okay," Snivy responded, lightly rubbing her right arm as she pretended to be okay.
"Really? Let me see your arm for a second…"
Oshawott put his paw onto Snivy's shoulder, which made the snake's eyes widen and her mouth involuntarily smile. In fact, Snivy's entire face flushed red from the mere touch of the otter's paw, causing her head to snap away from said otter. Oshawott saw this, gently using his other paw to push Snivy's head back towards him, gasping at the sight.
"Snivy... your face is really red all of a sudden!" Are you sure you're ok?" Oshawott asked, his face scrunched up in worry for his friend.
"...Yeah. I'm fine, really," the snake finally said after a moment's hesitation, her brain racking around as she got scared Oshawott would realize that she liked him. Luckily for her, before he moved her head back towards him the entire way, Snivy slightly regained her posture, her eyes slanted and her mouth in a slight frown like usual.
Oshawott sighed, moving his paws away from Snivy's shoulder and chin to feel Snivy's face. He felt her cheeks and forehead, before moving his arms back to his side. The snake's heart fluttered and her face turned even redder with each touch.
"Your face feels really hot... I think we should go back to the others and have Cilan check you," Oshawott concluded, looking intently at the grass type for a response. After a few moments, it was Snivy's turn to sigh, her head nodding slowly in agreement.
"Okay… I think it'll be best if you don't walk back, don't want you to use too much energy while you're in pain," the otter said, standing up and thinking of what to do now.
"Like I said, I'm fine… I can walk back without help."
"Nononono," Oshawott said while shaking his head, causing Snivy to raise an eyebrow. He's never sounded this worried before...
"I'm glad to help you out, besides, you really shouldn't walk on your own like this."
Snivy smiled a little at that, glad to know that Oshawott really cared about her.
"Well… I guess since you're so adamant about this, you can be my crutch while we walk back. How does that sound?"
Oshawott frowned a little, his shoulders heaved upwards a little as he quickly thought about it.
"If you say you can walk like this, then show me. It's okay if you can't though, I can carry you back the rest of the way."
Snivy had to hold back from smiling even brighter at the thought of Oshawott carrying her, only letting out a sigh from her mouth.
The water type watched as the grass type slowly got up on her feet, with the support of the tree helping her. She attempted to walk forward, stumbling a little and flinching when stepping with her left foot. Oshawott gasped in surprise, moving to Snivy's side to help support her.
Snivy's mind raced a million miles an hour, happy that the otter was so close to her, yet still worried and nervous due to a multitude of factors. Speaking of, the otter grabbed her left arm, and the two tried to walk together, but Snivy just couldn't do it.
"Looks like you can't really walk, huh?" Oshawott quietly said, still looking at the snake with worry in his eyes.
"I guess not… I'm sorry."
"Heyhey, it's okay! I had a feeling you would be in too much pain to walk, much less on your own… I'll go ahead and carry you back!" Oshawott reassured Snivy. It only made Snivy feel even more nervous, and unsure if she would survive the short walk back being in her crush's arms.
"Okay then, go ahead," She said quietly, not letting a hint of worry enter her voice. Oshawott nodded, letting go of Snivy's arm as he prepared to pick her up.
The otter moved behind the snake, bending down a little to sweep up her legs in a swift motion so as to not accidentally drop her onto the ground. His other arm supported the back of her head, and Oshawott was now carrying Snivy bridal-style.
Snivy's eyes widened, her face somehow turned a new shade of red, and she could only let out a quiet squeak of surprise upon being picked up so easily by the otter. She pursed her lips tightly, struggling to hold back a huge smile, and all she could do now was stare at him.
Oshawott looked down at the snake, seeing that she looked… like she was frozen in fear, and her face was even redder than before. The otter frowned harder than he had ever frowned before, an unusual expression for his standards.
He didn't say a word, instead rushing back to the clearing where the three humans would be, hoping that Cilan would be able to help his friend.
After about two minutes, the otter and snake arrived, and Oshawott quickly looked around for Cilan, spotting him off to the side cooking dinner. He waddled over, and once he made it to the connoisseur, he lightly tapped the back of Cilan's legs with his right foot.
"Hm?" Cilan mumbled, having felt the contact. With his ladle still in hand, he turned his body around to see who touched him while still stirring the pot. Upon looking down, he saw a worried Oshawott carrying an awkward Snivy.
"Why, hello you two! Is something wrong?" The green haired boy asked, a little concern in his voice since the mere sight of the Pokémon like that was unusual to him.
"Osha, Oshawott osha, osha osha!" The otter gently lifted the snake up higher to give Cilan a better look. The connoisseur tilted his head slightly, confused as to what was up. He turned back around, moving the ladle, still in the broth, to the other side.
"Pansage, would you mind stirring the soup for me? I have something to attend to," Cilan asked, the grass monkey across from him immediately nodding his head, happy to be helping out with dinner in a bigger way than usual. Cilan chuckled at the enthusiasm, as the monkey grabbed the ladle from his trainer, stirring the pot with both paws latched onto it.
"Alright," Cilan began, undoing his apron and hanging it on a nearby chair that was set up, "what seems to be the problem?"
He walked back to the Oshawott and Snivy, bending down to get a better look at the two once in front of them. Oshawott gently lifted Snivy up once more, giving Cilan the signal to take her from his hands. The green haired boy did so, looking over the snake, still confused. She looked perfectly fine, after all.
Oshawott acted out what he was saying as he said it, even dropping on his bum to signify Snivy's fall from the tree. That made the snake smile a little, just from how goofy the otter was acting in her honor. Cilan nodded his head, as he finally understood the issue.
"So, you're saying Snivy fell out of a tree and hurt her leg? Hm…"
Oshawott nodded his head, looking at Snivy with worry in his eyes yet again.
"Don't worry, I'll be sure to examine Snivy and then take the best possible course of action. You can count on me!"
Cilan smiled determinately at Oshawott, putting the otter's nerves at ease… slightly. He walked to where he hung his apron, placing Snivy down on a table which was right next to the chair. Oshawott followed, jumping up onto the chair and then the table, sitting behind Snivy as Cilan looked over the snake's problem area.
Upon an initial inspection, her left leg seemed to be perfectly fine, a little dirty and red, but otherwise okay. The connoisseur gently touched the middle section of the snake's leg, which prompted her to flinch and jerk her leg away from the human. A small frown creased onto her face, and the otter next to her felt even more worried than he already was.
"Oops, sorry about that Snivy," Cilan apologized, moving his hand back and onto his chin as he thought about the situation. After thinking for a few moments, he slided Snivy forwards to the point where her legs hung from the table's edge.
"Can you move your leg around for me?"
Snivy obliged, and tried her best to wiggle her leg. She was able to move it slightly, but if she moved it too fast, hard, or far, it gave her leg a small spike of pain. She didn't even try to hide the pain in her face, flinching everytime she felt a spike.
Oshawott felt bad seeing the snake in pain like this, especially since it was from an accident rather than from a battle or attack. He moved a bit closer to Snivy, putting a concerned paw on her back, which of course made Snivy tense up a little.
"Hm… seems that you just sprained your leg," Cilan concluded, walking over to a bag on the other side of the table. It rumbled and made some noise as Cilan put his hand into it, digging around for the things he needed. After rummaging about, he pulled a roll of elastic bandages and a pair of scissors from the bag.
He then moved back to the two Pokémon, before rolling off a small portion of the bandage to fit it around the grass type's leg. Once he got the measurement he needed, he cut off the bandage from the roll, putting it and the scissors down, and then he gently fitted it onto the limb. Once it was on, he took his hands away, looking to make sure the bandage was on properly. He nodded to himself, sighing as he completed his job.
"All good to go!" The connoisseur smiled brightly, as Snivy stared at her now bandaged leg. "For the next couple of days, I don't want you moving your leg too much, alright? It should be fully healed within that time frame. I also think it would be an excellent idea to try elevating your leg, perhaps by leaning it upwards against a tree. That should help your leg out quite a bit," Cilan explained, Snivy nodding in understanding.
"Okay, I'll go ahead and let Ash know about this, and I'll check on your leg later tonight." Cilan bowed as he usually did, before leaving to find Ash, who had left the area to look for berries with Iris a few minutes prior.
"Whew, I'm glad that your injury ended up not being too serious." Oshawott sighed a sigh of relief, smiling at the snake, who only sighed herself.
"Yeah… I can't really do much while I'm waiting for my leg to heal though…"
Snivy still stared at her leg, wondering when it would be ready to go. She also felt dumb, cursing herself for even falling out of the tree in the first place. On top of that, she now had to rely on others to help her out, making the grass type feel… strangely lost. It certainly was a situation Snivy was not happy about being in.
"Look on the bright side, you'll have me and the others to help you out when you need it!"
Snivy scoffed, turning away from her leg to look out at the woods.
"I don't need help."
The otter shook his head lightly at the snake's stubbornness, knowing how she could get sometimes. On one hand, she was very self-reliant when it came to doing the things she wanted, but on the other it took quite a while for her to accept anyone's help, even in dire situations.
"I understand that you're very… prideful, but just know that if you need any help whatsoever, you have all of us to help you out, okay? You don't have to handle this alone."
"Mhm," Snivy simply mumbled, gently swishing her tail left and right in understanding. She let her head settle back forwards, looking down to look at the ground rather than her leg this time. Using her arms, she pushed herself off the table, landing shakily on the ground.
"You okay?" Oshawott flinched a little from seeing that, and he felt a little disheartened that Snivy pushed herself off the table so casually.
"Yeah, I'm fine," the snake said, straining her words out since a jolt of pain coursed through her leg upon it hitting the ground. She tried to shake it off, making herself limp forwards to a nearby tree.
The otter couldn't stand to watch her limp slowly for long, so he made an executive decision to assist Snivy, even though she didn't want anyone's help. Oshawott got off the table, rushing over to the snake and wrapping his right arm around her. She froze in place, looking over to see the otter next to her.
"I can't stand to see you hurt yourself like this… I'm helping you out," he simply said, quickly moving his other arm to the snake's legs, picking her up bridal style again. Snivy didn't have any time to object, and her face heated up fast.
"I-I… I can handle myself," she stammered, feeling a little flustered from suddenly getting picked up.
"Yeah, I know… but not right now. I'm helping whether you want me to or not. Now, where do you want to go?" The water type stared intently at the grass type, waiting for an answer.
Snivy thought about it for a few moments, mostly focusing on whether she should try to fight it or just accept the otter's help. She looked around aimlessly as she thought, both to give herself a little more time to think and so she didn't have to stare back at the otter.
"That tree over there is fine," Snivy sighed, pointing at a tree that was a small distance away. Oshawott nodded, walking over and setting the snake down on the ground, leaned up against the trunk of the tree.
"Well, guess I'll be hanging with you for the time being," Oshawott smiled, sitting down with Snivy. The snake had to take a few seconds to process that, tinges of red creeping onto her cheeks once again.
"You really don't have to," the grass type objected, "I'll be fine on my own."
"Nah, I don't want to leave you all by yourself while waiting for dinner, would be pretty boring. Gotta make sure you don't try walking on that leg anyways," the otter chuckled, to which Snivy rolled her eyes.
"Well, for the record I wasn't planning to walk for long, just enough to go and lay down against a tree."
"Oh, were you?" A voice from above teased, causing Snivy to frown slightly. It was all too familiar…
Oshawott looked up to see Emolga in the tree, slightly hidden by some leaves and looking down on the duo. She began to glide downwards as Snivy spoke up.
"How long have you been watching us for?" The grass type said with a hinge of poison in her voice, as the flying squirrel landed gracefully on the ground.
"Watching you? Moi?" Emolga said, feigning innocence as she lightly put a paw on her chest. "Why, I was peacefully taking a nap when it just so happened that I heard you two talking… You are up against the tree I was resting in, after all."
"Oh, just stop, I know you were definitely listening for a while," Snivy called Emolga out, not feeling like dealing with her crap today. "Always have to eavesdrop, don't you?"
"Hey! That's a very rude assumption you're making! Besides, I'm telling the truth," she finished, crossing her arms and turning her head away from the snake, who had a clear frown on her face and narrowed eyes.
"Uh…" Oshawott scratched the back of his head, feeling a bit awkward and sensing rising tension between the two.
"Anyhow, I didn't exactly make myself come down here for nothing," Emolga quickly changed the subject, wanting to focus on what was currently interesting her. "What happened to your leg?"
"None of your business," Snivy shut down the question immediately, not wanting the electric/flying type to know she'd embarrassingly fell out of a tree. The snake would never survive the endless teasing that Emolga would certainly do.
"Eh, if you say so," the flying squirrel shrugged it off, much to Snivy's surprise. The grass type raised an eyebrow, wondering what game the flying squirrel was playing. She usually wasn't so quick to give up when it came to knowing every little thing about the grass type.
Emolga and Snivy had a short staring contest for a few seconds, before the electric/flying type glanced over at the otter who was still sitting dumbfoundedly, winking at him.
"Well, don't want to disturb your date any longer, seeya guys later!" Emolga snarkingly exclaimed, quickly flying away before Snivy had a chance to respond.
Both the snake and otter blushed slightly at that remark, and Snivy also had a tired look on her face, realizing that all of what just happened was to mock her.
"Of course she'd do that…" Snivy rolled her eyes again, as she attempted to relax a little.
"Wow, didn't expect that whatsoever," Oshawott said with a slightly raised voice, feeling a little flustered as he looked over to see Snivy's reaction to what Emolga had just said. She looked annoyed and her face was still a little red, but the grass type didn't seem to be acting any different.
"Mhm," the snake mumbled, slightly nodding her head. That prompted the water type to sigh a sigh of relief, as it seemed that she wasn't disgusted at the thought of possibly dating him.
They sat in silence for a few moments, before the otter's ears perked up a bit as he heard thumping footsteps coming from behind them. He stood up, peeking from the tree to see Ash running towards the clearing with Iris and Cilan considerably behind him. The dragon master in-training and connoisseur both had an assortment of berries in their arms, holding them as they walked briskly.
"Man, Ash is fast," the otter commented, shocked to see how quickly the young trainer could rush.
"For a human he is pretty quick, yeah," Snivy partially agreed, whipping her leafy tail around as she prepared for her trainer's reaction to seeing her hurt leg.
Speaking of which, the black-haired boy arrived in the clearing, looking around for Snivy. After a few seconds, he spotted her and Oshawott, smiling when he realized the snake was okay.
"Hey Snivy, Oshawott," he began, walking over and crouching down to get a better look at the grass type's leg. He checked it out, not putting his hands on her leg for fear of accidentally hurting her even more.
"Looks like Cilan fixed you up, huh? I'm glad to see you're doing good!"
Snivy nodded, a bit relieved that Ash didn't make a big deal about the whole situation. The young trainer got back up on his feet, looking over to see that Iris and Cilan were about to make it to the clearing.
"So how is Snivy doing?" Iris inquired, going right to the table with Cilan to put their berries down on it.
"She's good, thankfully," Ash responded, making his own way to the table. "It's all thanks to Cilan!"
"No problem," the connoisseur bowed, before searching through the pile of berries for just the right ones for the soup. He walked to the pot, dropping them in as Pansage continued to stir.
"Thank you Pansage! You've been a big help!"
The monkey chirped in joy, handing Cilan the ladle so the human could continue the job.
"Well, I guess everything is just fine after all," the purple-haired girl commented, as Ash smiled a little more brightly, nodding his head.
"Shouldn't take much longer before we get dinner too, it'll definitely help Snivy get better faster!"
Iris chuckled, knowing that Ash seemed to think that food was the answer to all his problems.
"Yeah, I'm kind of hungry after all that berry hunting! I can't wait to eat Cilan's soup, it's been so long!" She exclaimed, mirroring Ash's excitement.
"Luckily for you two, it'll only take a few minutes for the berries to get cooked and help meld their flavors into the broth!" Cilan hummed to himself, carefully stirring the soup.
"Did you hear that Snive? Dinner won't take much longer to cook," the otter said, as the snake smiled a little.
"Yep, I could really use some food right now honestly," Snivy said, feeling light hunger pangs in her stomach.
"Oh, you're hungry?" Oshawott asked, to which the snake simply replied with a grunt. "I'll go get you some food real quick then," the otter said, getting up and running off before the grass type could say anything.
"Huh… that's nice of him," Snivy thought, a bit confused as to why he would do that when dinner was only a few minutes away. The snake certainly could have waited for it. Nonetheless, he only ever really went off and got food for Emolga or himself, so this was a little strange. She shook off the thought, waiting for the water type to come back.
Speaking of, Oshawott used his sense of smell to find food, sniffing the air as he ran. The otter had a keen nose, so it wouldn't be that hard for him to find something. In particular, he smelt a sweet fragrance among the other smells in the forest, and followed it to a small cluster of bushes. Each bush had the same type of berry hanging off of it, nanab berries.
"Nice, Snivy will like this!" Oshawott walked closer to a bush, grabbing one berry from it. It was ripe for the picking, so its sweet and bitter flavors would be perfect for the snake. The otter ran back to the clearing, making it just before dinner was ready.
"Hey, I'm back! I got you a berry," Oshawott said, sitting down next to Snivy and handing her the nanab berry. She took it, slightly smiling.
"Thanks Oshawott… you didn't have to do this for me though," Snivy said, before taking a small bite of the berry. The otter smiled brightly, shrugging his shoulders as he watched Snivy eat.
"Nah, it was my pleasure! I know we're literally about to have dinner, but I think that you should have a little extra food. Didn't want you to be too hungry for too long anyways!"
The snake chuckled, admiring the otter's kindness, even if the logic wasn't very sensical. Oshawott smiled a little brighter, feeling pretty happy overall, despite being worried for Snivy most of the day.
The grass type was able to get through half of the berry before Cilan officially called everyone for dinner, with Ash and Iris' assistance.
"Dinner is ready everyone!" The green-haired boy yelled, ready to hand out bowls to all that arrived back to the clearing.
"Yeah, come and get some grub! It's really good!" Ash yelled out, cupping his hands around his mouth to amplify his volume. Cilan laughed at the trainer's antics, while Iris just rolled her eyes.
"Don't miss out on dinner!" The dragon master-in-training simply yelled, going over to the pot of soup to pour bowls for her and the two boys.
"Hm, seems that it's time to eat," Snivy said, still munching on the nanab berry in her paws.
"Yep! I'll be right back," Oshawott said, getting up once again to walk over to the humans.
As the water type walked, the connoisseur gave Pansage dinner first, on account of him helping to make it and being in the immediate area. Cilan looked around to see Oshawott walking towards him, so he prepared in advance by grabbing a bowl.
"Hey Oshawott, here's your dinner!" He said, as Oshawott took the bowl from the human. This time, the Pokémon were served some homemade Poké Blocks that Cilan had prepared in advance when he had the chance, cut up into small pieces. It was also mixed in with an assortment of chopped up veggies, making for a varied and fulfilling dish.
Cilan bowed as he usually did after serving dishes, and the otter stayed standing in front of him, looking as if he wanted something else.
"What's the matter?" Cilan inquired, confused as to why Oshawott didn't go back to his spot. The otter often rushed back to eat.
"Osha, osha," the water type said, pointing at his bowl to signify that he wanted another.
Cilan tilted his head to the side, still confused as to what Oshawott meant. "You want a second bowl? You already have more than enough food."
Oshawott shook his head, now pointing his paw over at Snivy. Cilan put two and two together, realizing what the otter was trying to get at.
"Ohh, you want a second bowl to give to Snivy?"
Oshawott nodded, and the connoisseur smiled.
"That's awfully nice of you, but you've already been so helpful today! Allow me to bring Snivy a bowl," Cilan explained, to which Oshawott frowned. The water type was adamant about getting a bowl for Snivy, not wanting her to be the last one to eat. He knew that Cilan would be preoccupied with handing bowls to the other Pokémon, most of which were now in the clearing.
After a few seconds of waiting, Cilan sighed, grabbing another bowl to give to Oshawott.
"Here you go Oshawott, thank you for being so kind to Snivy in her time of need!"
"Osha Oshawott!" The otter responded, now holding a bowl in each of his paws. He marched off to the tree, where Snivy had finally finished eating the nanab berry, expecting to wait a little bit before getting her dinner.
"Guess what I got!" Oshawott said in a sing-songy way, slightly bending down to give Snivy one of the bowls. The snake looked at it in surprise, taking the bowl from Oshawott's paw.
"You got dinner for me?" Snivy asked, a little shock in her voice. Oshawott sat down next to the snake again, putting his bowl on the ground before answering with a simple "Yep!"
"Wow…" Snivy quietly mumbled, still staring at her dinner in awe. "You really didn't have to do that Oshawott."
"It wasn't a big deal," Oshawott started, taking a small bite of his food before continuing. "I had a feeling that you would be last to get dinner, and ya know… I didn't want that to happen."
Snivy looked over at the water type, feeling her heart beat a little faster. She deeply appreciated the gesture, not knowing what to say now.
"Uh… thanks," she simply uttered, turning her head away since she felt her face start to warm up.
"You're welcome!" Oshawott beamed, glad to help out the grass type yet again.
With that, the two ate the rest of their dinner together, which was mostly silent and uneventful, save for the few Pokémon who wanted to check up on Snivy and her leg.
The otter had finished eating first, and he patiently waited for the grass type to be done as well. Snivy had seen that the otter's bowl was empty out of the corner of her eye, so she was wondering for a while why he didn't leave to bring his bowl back to the humans for a while. She still had a little more food to go, but before she finished it off, she decided to ask Oshawott what was up.
"Any particular reason why you haven't handed in your bowl yet?" She coolly asked, taking another handful of her food and putting it in her mouth.
"Just waiting for you to finish so I can take both our bowls!"
Snivy smiled, nodding in understanding. "Well in that case I'll hurry up."
The grass type grabbed the rest of her dinner in one paw, which just barely fit without dropping any food. She grabbed her bowl, giving it to Oshawott, who took it and stacked it on top of his own.
"I'll be right back… again!"
Oshawott got up, carrying the two bowls back to the humans as Snivy watched, eating some more of her dinner.
The water type made it to Cilan, giving him the two bowls. The connoisseur took them, thanking Oshawott yet again before putting them on the table. They were put onto a small stack of three bowls from some other Pokémon who had finished first, as Cilan waited to wash all of the bowls at the same time.
Oshawott walked back to Snivy, sitting down yet again next to her.
"Now we can just relax for the rest of the day," Oshawott sighed, putting his paws on his scalchop as he looked up to the sky. It was beginning to get dark, the orange in the sky slowly changing into a deep reddish-purple.
"Yeah… I'm going to be relaxing for the next couple of days though," Snivy said, a little sad at the thought of not being able to do much for herself for a while.
"Being able to chill is pretty nice though," Oshawott said, sensing Snivy still wasn't that excited about sitting around. "Sometimes I wish I could just do nothing all day!" The otter laughed, hoping that he could cheer Snivy up a little. The snake sighed in response, crossing her arms as she slumped down on the tree to lay down more comfortably.
"I suppose if you like doing nothing then this situation would be great."
The water type felt bad, wondering what he could say to the grass type now. He took a moment to think, looking over at Snivy again to gauge her next reaction.
"Well, at least you have company so you won't be lonely," Oshawott smiled, the snake looking at him before responding.
"I guess I do," Snivy said, giving a little smile back. Oshawott smiled a bit brighter, happy to see the snake's smile again.
"So, are you feeling tired yet? I think I might go to sleep earlier than usual," Oshawott said after a short pause, not sure of how to keep the conversation going.
"I am, actually," the snake said, moving her paws to her stomach as she slowly relaxed into the position she would fall asleep in. Oshawott noticed it, a bit worried that Snivy would end up having a sore neck whenever she woke up. Her head was still up against the tree, and the rest of her body was basically flat on the ground.
"Hm, I think you should probably lay your head on the grass, Snivy," Oshawott commented, to which the snake shrugged.
"I'll manage, not the first time I've fallen asleep like this."
Oshawott frowned a bit, moving a bit closer to Snivy, which made her heart pound a little faster. He moved his arms around her legs and back, quickly yet gently moving her forward enough to where her head could now lay down. The touch made Snivy blush, and she snapped her head away so the otter couldn't see.
"Thank you Oshawott," she hurriedly said, hoping he wouldn't see her face.
"No problem!" He said, sitting back in his spot against the tree. He looked around the clearing for a spot to sleep himself, preparing to slumber away.
"That spot should be fine," the otter thought, setting his eyes upon an open area not too far from Snivy. He wanted to make sure he was close enough to where if she needed to do something, he could be there for her.
Oshawott sighed, letting himself sit for a couple minutes before going to the spot to rest for the night. He took his scalchop off his stomach, twiddling it in his paws. It would be his pillow, since that was comfortable for him.
The minutes quickly passed by, and the otter yawned and stretched his arms and legs out. He got up, waddling over to Snivy to wish her goodnight.
"Hey, Snive? Are you still awake?"
The snake turned her body around, looking up at the otter.
"Yeah, what do you want?"
"Oh, well… I just wanted to say goodnight. See you in the morning."
Oshawott smiled, bending down to give Snivy a quick kiss on the forehead. As he stood up, the snake's face got red for the final time today, a small squeak escaping her lips. All she could do was stare at Oshawott, as it was his turn to blush.
"Uhh… see you!" Was all the water type could say, and he quickly walked away to where he wanted to sleep, rubbing his face with both paws nervously.
"Why did I do that, why did I do that, why did I do that!?" Oshawott harshly whispered to himself, feeling nervous as he laid down on the ground. He yanked the shell off his stomach, practically throwing it on the ground and laying his head on it.
He moved his head up to look at Snivy, wondering if she was going to smack him with her vines or something like that. All the snake did was stare up at the night sky, slightly smiling as she tried to hold it back from turning into a huge grin.
Oshawott sighed, feeling a little more confident and comfortable. He adjusted his position, laying on his side and closing his eyes to let sleep take him over...
