Everything comes to an end. Infinity did not apply to the laws of the earth. If it's one thing that was certain, it's that everything comes to an end. Her constant running would also come to an end, it was just a matter of what would give in first - her soul, or her body?
As it turns out, her soul gave in first. She didn't want to run any longer, this had gone on for longer than she could bear. So she lay in the dirt, sprawled out the only way her body gave permission. No part of her body didn't ache.
It was a familiar aching. She was used to running for hours on end. She remembered all of the missions she did before this. All of the people she helped, and hurt. How would her life have ended up if she had chosen a different path? Did she make her mark on this world as she wanted? Would it make a difference if she disappeared in this moment? Did it matter anymore?
She didn't want to answer any of those. It was better not to think about what could be. That only brought people misery. and right now, She did not want to be miserable, she'd had enough of that.
For the first time in a very long time, she welcomed the world around her. Its earthy smell, its light burning her eyes, its wind brushing her cheeks. It all felt different and so good. In this moment, it didn't matter if anyone was around her, she would be gone soon. Life was rarely in her control. At the very least, she wanted to choose how she left. And she had used her last bout of strength to do just that. And now, it was over.
As she took in everything her earth had to offer, images flashed through her mind. She wondered about life before now. Her family, her friends, her people. Distant but all too familiar. she wondered if they were alright, what they were doing now. She hoped they would always be good.
She was okay with this. It was tiring, after all. It had always been. If she was going to leave the world someday, then why not today? after all - she had lived, loved, and hurt. Lately, it was hurt and nothing else. She didn't have any fight left in her. It would have been nice to do more with the life she had, but everything comes to an end - whether it was welcome or not. She knew all too well her body was one of those things right now. A medic's intuition, or a curse.
She continued to disappear into the vast sight in front of her. It was peaceful, the sky blanketing her. Her globes mesmerized with the colours one last time before she closed them. right, bright blue with white mixed in, green like the home she remembered. Her lungs took in one last breath of crisp air before the darkness encompassed her. This was it, and it was okay. Or so she told herself.
Her eyes did open again when she was so sure they wouldn't. Maybe she had just not wanted them to, unsure of what may come next. She blinked a couple of times at nothing in particular. But then, she saw.
The walls, The figures beside her. She recognized them all.
Her team was there, her people. Her second family. Even the one she thought she lost. She smiled at them with tired eyes, she was home.
And then, she understood.
Just as everything has an end, it also has a beginning.
Author's Note: Hi there! I've been wanting to write this story for a while and finally decided to. It's more of a mundane focus and will go through some really deep feelings, particularly Sakura's. Hope you enjoy :)
