I fell to the ground, sprawling on my arse as my laptop clattered loudly on the floor, music still playing.
"The f*&%?"
I looked up. This... wasn't my room.
No, this was an alleyway, and I looked up at the sky.
"Why is it daytime?"
As I observed the walls to my either side, I realised that this place was odd. The bricks of the walls looked uneven, as if they were homemade. Like the bricks my father had once used for a homemade oven.
I instinctively reached out to my laptop, and paused the youtube playlist.
It still had the charging cable. I tepidly looked at the end, a clean cut, as if it had been cut in half with a sharp blade.
I got up and moved to the end of the alleyway, upon which I saw a street filled with oddly dressed people in archaic clothing and clothing I didn't recognise all looking in the same direction.
I followed their gaze and saw... it.
The Colossal Titan.
I turned and rushed back to the alleyway. Internally I felt guilt for not warning the townspeople.
A great thunderous sound rang out, and wind blew across the streets, sending people flying and sundering buildings.
Okay, I was in Attack on Titan. Within the city walls, at the worst possible time.
What now?
Eren, his mother was trapped right now. If I did nothing, things would play out as in canon.
Could I really allow that?
Perhaps if Eren's mother lived, and the future changed, maybe the Rumbling wouldn't ever happen.
I started laughing.
This was ridiculous.
I must be going mad.
But.
But.
I couldn't take that risk.
If a whole world's fate lied in the balance, I wasn't going to do nothing.
I got up, and started running.
The streets were every bit as outdated as you could imagine. Victorian era felt appropriate, but the Eldians were loosely based off Germany so that's not the best descriptor. The streets were covered in literal faeces from horse and cart, I probably looked a bit odd in slippers and a red hoodie, but everyone I saw was far too busy running away from the walls, or panicking.
I saw a women breaking down in tears. I touched her shoulder gently "Ma'am, you need to run."
She ignored me, I shook her again, she just stared at me, and pointed at the wall. I shook my head.
"^&*%^)(\\^&"
Unfortunately I couldn't speak German. I shook my head again, and pointed in the opposite direction.
Finally, she started moving.
I continued running, ignoring the questioning cry behind me.
Perhaps it was luck, perhaps it was fate, perhaps it was whatever entity or miracle that sent me here.
I found them.
Two children, so desperately trying to save a women trapped beneath the wreckage of their home.
Adrenaline started pumping. I felt my breaths become shallower.
This was it, do or die.
I ended my sprint, skidding on the ground and grabbed the piece of timber holding the mother of the Attack Titan Shifter down, and pulled.
Perhaps all they'd needed was a little bit of help. Perhaps in my adrenaline surging state I was stronger than normal.
I lifted the timber up and threw it to the side.
I chanced a glance to my left.
There it was. The Titan that ate Eren's mom. Dr Yeagers previous wife.
"RUN!"
I scooped up Mrs Yeager onto my shoulder and grabbed the kids hands.
I heard a squeal of gas, as a 3D maneuver gear approached us. It was Hannes.
The Garrison Corps Soldier looked confused, worried and panicked. Yet, that seemed to disappear as he put on a brave face.
Reassuring the kids with a calm voice in a language I didn't know, he turned to the Titan.
Perhaps my being here had changed things, perhaps not, he didn't let fear take hold.
I started moving, hoping for the best.
The kids followed me, but I wasn't sure what to think.
I heard a scream from the injured woman, I looked back and saw a horrible sight.
It seems that it was no coincidence that she had tracked down her husbands new family as soon as the wall fell.
We started running.
We were making good progress, but that damn titan hadn't stopped following.
I had to do something...
I saw a horse and cart, abandoned on the side of the road, I looked at Eren and shouted pointing at it. He nodded, eyes red, a furious scowl on his face. Mikasa seemed as calm as ever, but you could tell she was disturbed by the death of someone they knew.
I laid Mrs Yeager on the back of the carriage, turned around and looked at the approaching Titan.
I felt a fear unlike any I had ever felt before. I had felt the fear of seeing large predatory animals before, from Zoos, and such.
This was different.
That face, was uncannily human.
Yet I had no choice, after all, what else could I do.
I sprinted forward, exhausted, but not spent.
I heard a cry behind me, and responded "RUN!"
The Titan reached out for my.
I waited.
It was coming closer.
I waited.
It was about to touch me.
I threw myself to the floor, hitting it roughly as I rolled in the filthy of the street.
I was up again immediately, and leaped out from between its legs.
I looked behind me, making sure it was following.
I wish I hadn't.
I kept moving, breathing as hard as I could.
Eventually, I ran out of steam.
I collapsed to the floor, unable to more than crawl.
A hand closed around my waist, and I could do no more than weakly push at the gargantuan fingers.
It picked me up, and turned me to face it. Those eyes.
Somehow, even in the moment before my death, even within that horrifyingly uncanny face, I felt that those eyes looked beautiful.
I shuddered.
"Hey bitch!" The hand squeezed. Did she know English?
I started laughing.
"The one person in this damn town who can understand me, and it's a bloody Titan. How poetic."
"So you know right? Your husband is dead."
Her eyes narrowed. Good, she could understand.
"Not the way you're thinking, haha, I'm afraid life is too cruel for that. You know right? That kid is the Attack Titan. So who do you think he got it from?"
The hand squeezed tighter somehow.
"Why, his father of course, your beloved husband."
Her mouth opened, and her teeth came crashing down, crushing through my waist with such ferocity that my world was overcome by white.
The pain was unimaginable.
Indescribable.
Unbearable.
She swallowed me whole, wait not whole, half right? Hahhahahahhahaha. So funny isn't it?
As the blood covered my body, I started feeling faint. I breathed faster and shallower, but it wasn't enough. My blood poured out in small gouts.
This was the end. It was funny, really. With all the times I had contemplated suicide, I ended up dying in a way that was practically just that.
As I fell into the stomach and hit the red fluids within, making a great splash, I distantly wondered if this would change anything in the end.
I couldn't muster the strength to climb out of the stomach acid before I blacked out.

Authors Note:
I realise that there was surprisingly few SI stories where the main character died. Really, it's a rare thing in general, but I kinda like the idea. After all, a sacrifice can do so much to change the world. Fate is written in the blood of martyrs. History is written by the victors, but the truth can not be hidden forever.
