Chapter 14

Daenerys Targaryen POV

Jon is coming over for a bit, and we're going to hang out here before heading to his house. It'll be good to make sure my dad is in an okay mental state to go before leaving. I hope things will be okay between me and Cersei, maybe I can convince her to hang out with me for Black Friday. It's really sad, I feel like our friendship is deteriorating. She used to be my voice of reason, it really sucks that she's drinking so much and going down the drain like this.

Jon knocks on the door and I open it. He give me a hug and a kiss. "Hey babe," he says to me. "Happy Thanksgiving."

"Happy Thanksgiving," I say as he walks in. "I missed you a lot." I did miss him, even though I saw him the other day.

"Hi, Mr. Targaryen," he says to my dad. "How are you?"

"I'm good, thank you Jon," he responds. "Come sit, we made some snacks to munch on before heading to your house." My dad and I have already set up some cheese, crackers and cranberry sauce. We all sit down at the table.

"So Jon, how's school?" My dad asks Jon.

"It's good," he responds. "I'm supposed to find out if I got into the school I applied to soon. I applied to the college my brother Robb goes to."

"Do you know what you want to study?" He asks him.

"Honestly, not really," Jon says. "I'm honestly just trying to get through high school."

"I understand that," my dad says. There's a pause. "You may want to start taking that into consideration. I always encouraged my sons to go after what they want sooner rather than later."

There's a moment of silence. My dad doesn't really talk about my brothers much, them dying and leaving contributed a lot to his mental breakdown. Rhaegar definitely listened to that piece of advice when he ran off with some girl none of us really knew. I obviously don't remember anything about that, I had either just been born or was about to be born.

"So I heard your brother Robb is married," my dad says to Jon. "How's that going?"

"Yeah, he got married last year," Jon responds. "It was kind of a shock to us all, but I think it's going well. They seem really happy, and she's really sweet."

"Young marriage is tricky sometimes, but if they love each other and work hard at it then I'm sure they can have a good life together."

I'm not sure what's making my dad bring all this stuff up, but the holidays might be making him emotional. It's his first holiday returning back to town, so I can understand it being a lot for him to take on. I just hope I'm doing enough to help and support him.

Sansa Stark POV

It's Thanksgiving, which of course gives me a ton of anxiety about food. This time last year I was getting to know Ramsay, it feels like my whole mindset on life has changed immensely since then. I walk into the kitchen where my mom and Talisa are preparing dishes for dinner. Arya is trying to give her a hand, but my mom is rushing around and kind of ignoring her. She seems to be more interested in Talisa than Arya.

"Do you need help?" I ask her.

"Yeah," my mom responds. "Just help me mix up these sweet potatoes." I walk over to the bowl with sweet potatoes, brown sugar and butter and start stirring it together.

"You seem stressed," I say to my mom. "Is everything okay?"

"Your aunt is coming over for Thanksgiving," she says. "I haven't seen her in years." She's talking about her sister, who I met a few times when I was a kid. I know my mom's been estranged from her for a while.

"Oh really?" Talisa asks. "Maybe it'll be nice to see her and reconnect."

"Yeah, it's kind of last minute," she responds. "She's getting married to someone who works at Sansa's school, and I think she wants to mend our relationship." Hearing that surprises me, but I guess it's a good thing. My dad is always encouraging my mom to try to reconnect with her sister since he misses his so much.

A little while later, the doorbell rings. My mom goes to answer it, and she and my sister exchange an awkward greeting. I poke my head out of the kitchen and see my aunt and her fiance walk in. I'm shocked to see that her fiance is Mr. Baelish. He gives my mom a welcoming hug, but she seems very standoffish about it.

"Hello Sansa," Mr. Baelish says to me. "It's good to see you."

"You too, Mr. Baelish," I respond. "I didn't know you were with my aunt."

"We reconnected last year and got engaged recently," he says. "I encouraged her to come here and try to mend things with your mom." I smile at that. It's a little weird having a teacher at my house for a holiday, but I appreciate Mr. Baelish's kindness and how much he seems to care about my family.

My aunt and Mr. Baelish are in the living room chatting with Arya, Robb and Talisa. Arya seems to be really excited to see her aunt, I don't think she senses the same tension. I'm in the kitchen helping my mom cook. She peeks out to the living room to make sure everyone is engaged in conversation.

"I can't believe she showed up with him," my mom says. "She knows about our history."

"What history?" I ask. "Mr. Baelish told me he knew you, but he didn't really elaborate."

"We dated in high school," she says. "We were engaged the summer after I graduated. We took a break when I left for college, and that's where I met your dad." I'm shocked. I had no idea they were together, I thought maybe Mr. Baelish and my mom just went to high school together or something.

"Do you think aunt Lysa did this to get back at you for cutting off contact?" I ask my mom.

"I don't think so, but I guess it's possible," she responds. "I've been estranged from your aunt since your cousin Robin was a toddler." I know my aunt Lysa's husband died a couple years ago, my mom found out about it but chose not to go to the funeral.

"I just can't believe she brough him," my mom continues, shaking her head. "I thought she's have a little more class than that." This is a lot more dramatic than I ever expected, this Thanksgiving dinner is sure to be tense and awkward.

Jon Snow Stark POV

We get to my house, and everyone is filling up their plates and getting ready to eat. I see two people that stand out from the group because they look out of place. I recognize one as a teacher from school, and it's weird that he's here. The other person looks familar, but I can't place where I know her from.

"Jon, Danaerys, hi!" My mom says. She's never this excited to see me. "Come sit. You remember your aunt, Lysa, don't you?"

"Oh, yeah," I respond. "Mr. Baelish, why are you here?" I had him for English a couple years ago, I didn't know he knew my family.

"I'm engaged to your aunt Lysa," he responds. "She wanted to come by today, she thought it would be a good idea to try to mend her relationship with your mom."

That seems weird to me, but I suppose it's a good thing. It'll just be a little awkward having someone from school in my house. We fill up our plates and sit at the table to eat with everyone.

"Jon," my mom says. "Don't you want to introduce Daenerys?"

"Oh, right," I respond. "Aunt Lysa, this is my girlfriend Daenerys and her father."

"It's nice to meet you," my aunt says to them.

"I remember you, Daenerys," Mr. Baelish says. "How are things? Are you in school?"

"Not currently," Dany responds. "I'm taking a gap year and then going to school next fall. I'm using this time to do charity volunteer work." They continue talking, and I see Dany's father start talking to my dad.

"Mr. Stark," he says to my dad. "It's good to see you after all these years."

"Likewise," my dad responds. "And you can call me Ned." That makes me happy that my dad is trying to be civil and is actually getting along with Dany's father.

"I also just wanted to tell you what a good boy Jon is," Dany's father says. "Daenerys really cares for him, and I just had to compliment you on how you've raised him."

"Well, thank you," my dad responds. "I have to say the same to you, my son constantly raves about Daenerys so you must have done something right."

They keep talking, and I can't help but remember that Dany's father didn't primarily raise her. I know my dad meant well, but he wasn't there for her when he really should've been. It's honestly surprising to me that Dany is so kind and well-rounded, given how much time she spent with the Lannisters growing up. In any case, I'm glad our families are being brought together. I hope this is the first step to my dad accepting Dany and I's relationship more.
