Sebastian was not a fan of the lunch room. The noise was intense enough to make his ears hurt by themselves but with the addition of his magic (which caused him to see invisible things) it was horrible.
The sound waves from this many people already made his head hurt but add eating (which caused the most disgusting sound waves) and all the appliances in the kitchen. He had to wear his cone and goggles and even though people were doing better about being quiet near him this many people still caused more noise than he would prefer.
He ate in his secret room sometimes but he did enjoy being around his friends and wanted to hang out with them.
"anyone doing anything this weekend?" Nory asked as the other UDMs sat down.
"I'm going to visit my grandparents" Willa told them sad to be missing out on whatever Nory was planning.
"yeah I'm busy too" Bax said.
"I'm not sure if I can go" Sabastian said carefully. It wasn't that he was busy but anything too loud would be a no go for him. And even though he loved hanging out with his friends he wasn't sure if he even wanted to go do whatever they were planning.
"hey wonkos" Lacey sneered at them.
"go away" Willa growled as she took a bite of her food.
"or what? You'll rain on me? Ha!" Willa was probably trying to not rain on everyone.
"Yeah don't you wonkos think just because you won the secret room that'll make you cool" Rune joined in on Lacey's teasing.
"we don't" Pepper snapped.
"leave them alone" Zinnia glared and went back to talking with Pepper.
"Speaking of the secret room, where is it?"
"non of your business" Nory started.
"Yeah why would we tell you?" Marigold asked sharply.
"because we deserved to win... and you wouldn't want us to be loud around your dog" Lacey gestured to Sebastian. He was wearing his cone (as well as his goggles) to block some of the sound waves out.
"he's not a dog!"
"oh, I didn't know you have three wonky Fluxers" Lacey said the waves coming off her voice piercing Sebastian's eyes.
and that was the last straw for the UDMs. Nory was a dritten, Willa was raining over the whole table and the sparkies. Andres was trying to calm down dritten-Nory who was flying near him. Marigold and Bax were trying to help Willa and get the sparkies to leave. Pepper and Zinnia had left once Nory fluxed so Pepper didn't scare her.
"AHHH!" Lacey shrieked as a bolt of lightning shot next to her. The sound wave from her shriek and the lightning was enough to knock over Sebastian.
He fled.
He closed his eyes hoping to get to his secret room without bumping into anything or worse anyone. Sadly his hopes did not come true.
"ahh!" He fell forward. He took a few minutes to calm himself.
A girl pulled her knees up closer to her body. He must have tripped on her foot.
Said girl was wear a red off the shoulder shirt, black leggings, and had a jacket tied around her waist. Her strawberry blonde hair fell into her face which was buried in her knees.
"I'm ok, are you?" He asked, he opened his eyes and noticed that he had ran past the secret room and was far enough away to not see the waves form the cafeteria anymore. He also noticed that the girl had tear stains down her cheeks and her dark blue eyes were red and puffy as though she had been crying.
She looked up at him, she looked as though she wanted to say something but couldn't.
"do you want to write it down?" Sebastian asked. He knew sometimes someone wanted to say something but couldn't. She looked surprised but nodded.
Sebastian went to the classroom just next to them, a second year fuzzie classroom, he grabbed a pen and piece of paper off the teacher's desk.
He hand them to the girl who was wiping her eyes.
'I'm Flair, sorry for tripping you' she wrote in small neat letters.
'it's alright, I'm Sebastian. Really tho are you ok?' He wrote down next. The writing sound waves were soft and dimmer than talking sound waves were, it was nice.
he wasn't quite sure why he was still here "talking" with this girl, a few minutes ago he would have just ran straight past but he felt like he should stay with her.
Flair thought for a moment.
'you didn't hurt me. I'm physically ok'
'why are you sitting here crying? Sorry didn't mean to get my nose where it does belong' he wrote after he realized he might have been too forward.
'it's ok. It's nice to tell someone these things sometimes. Tho I doubt you would understand' she thought for another minute
'I'm here because it's all too much, the cafeteria is loud and has so many smells and my class is super noisy'
Sebastian was surprised that Flair was crying for the same reason he was.
'I understand. I'm in the UMD class and I'm a sorta flicker, I can see invisible things. Too much or loud sounds give me headaches and overwhelming me'
he thought for a moment then wrote
'come with me, I have something you might like' he stood up, and reached out his hand to help Flair up, she shook her head, he nodded and dropped his hand. He put the pen back in on the desk then lead Flair over to his secret room.
"this is the secret room from the big night"
"I didn't come" Flair spoke quietly. He was glade she could talk now but he kinda missed the writing.
"well there was a scavenger hunt and the prize was this room, my friends who won gave me the keys so I have a quiet spot. I thought that you would maybe enjoy it here too" he explained and let her in to the secret room.
Flair smiled and sat on one of the bean bags. Sebastian sat on the couch next to it. He took off his cone and goggles rubbing his eyes.
"thank you. And I'm sorry" Flair said looking around.
"sorry? For what?"
"for not talking. And for crying. And for not coming to big night."
"it's fine, I mean I almost didn't come to big night. I don't blame you for crying, and if anything I should be thanking you for not talking, the sounds that came from writing were more peaceful"
"oh, really?" She was surprised.
"hmm," Sebastian nodded and closed his eyes, Flair wasn't look directly at him anyway and he had come here to calm down.
"would you like to continue writing?"
"No thanks, I want to rest my eyes"
"that's fine. I'm glad you're cool with writing I was nonverbal, that basically means I couldn't talk because everything was too overwhelming" she explained.
"yeah, I get it" he told he gently.
"thanks for understanding. I'm autistic and sometimes it's all too much" Flair thanked him again.
"really? I might be autistic, I've been told that I might be but with my magic it's hard to tell if it's actually autism" Sebastian told her.
Flair thought for a moments "did you have sensory issues, not like change, not understand some people, and/or go nonverbal before you got your magic?" She asked cautiously.
"I think I did" he said thoughtfully. "Like I never really understood my classmates that well, and I'm not the biggest fan of change, and as for sensory issues I didn't like certain things like sounds or smells"
"I'm glad to have met someone who might be autistic, it's hard to find someone who understands me sometimes"
"if you want I can give you one of the keys to this place"
"really? That would be great! And you really don't mind?"
"really. I don't mind. The only other people who know how to get in are teachers and some of my classmates. Speaking of which, what class are you in?"
"I'm a first year Flare"
"it's funny that your name is Flair when you're a Flare" Sebastian laughed and heard Flair join in.
"Yeah, it's become a running joke in my family"
Sebastian opened his eyes again. The room was mostly quiet as there were only two people inside and both of them were quiet when speaking. He took off one of the lanyards and handed it to Flair.
"here" he explained how to get into the room again just in case. "Come here when ever you need or want. Just don't make a mess or be too loud when I'm here. Also I'm not really supposed to tell anybody how to get in so if you can keep the whereabouts of this room and how to get in a secret that would be great"
"thank you and don't worry I will"
the two talked a bit more then they had to get back to class. The next day Sebastian found Flair sitting in the secret room reading. He later got diagnosed with autism and was very glad to have a friend who understood him a bit better than others did.
A/N again I'll gladly write more if you would like. I would happily do more with autistic Sebastian and Flair (I'm thinking purely platonic nothing romantic)
maybe the other's reactions to Sebastian telling them he's autistic or even Flairs reaction to him getting diagnosed.
I'm happy to fix any mistakes in this just let me know
