When the Wolf howled at the Light

Chapter One – Prologue

If you asked what my first memory was, I would probably lie. It was not a particularly fond memory; in fact, it was possibly the worst thing I have ever experienced. I don't believe anyone would look fondly at being abandoned by their own mother. Or at least that's how I've remembered it.

It was the year I turned four. I remember Mom and Dad fighting, my older sister Bella curled up around me in her bed trying to help me drown out the shouting. It had become a routine by then, whenever a fight occurred. I remember Bella telling me that it would all be alright and that in a few minutes the shouting would stop and that we would all be a happy family again. Bella was right at first, our parents' voices eventually did lower, but she was wrong too. We never were a happy family again.

We eventually heard our mother, Renee, coming up the stairs and go into our parents' room. There we heard great thumping, like she was going through the entirety of the bedroom and upheaving it. Unfortunately, that was exactly what had happened. Entering Bella's room with two giant suitcases full, Mom was a sight to see; dishevelled, hair coming out of her low ponytail, eyebrows furrowed and with a firmness to her lips.

"Pack a bag Bella, we're going to visit your grandmother," was all Mom said to us before she left in a huff. Bang, Bang, Bang could be heard down the staircase.

Bella and I didn't know how to respond, so we did as we were told and packed a duffle full of Bella's clothes and toiletries. Soon I followed my sister down the stairs and spied my father, Charlie, sitting on the recliner looking like his world had ended. Mom was waiting for Bella at the front door, so as I went to one side of the room to Dad, Bella went to the other to stand next to Mom.

"Have you packed?" asked Mom.

Bella nodded.

"I'll send you the paperwork in the mail," Mom spoke without turning to face either Dad or myself.

I watched my father's face crumple, as he grunted a reply in confirmation. I was still confused, however. Where were Mom and Bella going without me?

"Daddy where is Mommy and Bella going?" I asked, panic surfacing in my voice as I watched Mom leave through the front door, Bella looking back at us before following after.

"They're going to your Grandmother's for a while, Lucy Lu," he responded softly.

"But why only them, why not us too?!" I yelled staring between the swinging front door and my Dad.

"Your Mommy just needs some time to herself, you'll see her soon, you just have to stay with your Daddy for a while Sweet Pea." He tried convincing me, but I'm not sure if it was the look in his eyes or the tone of his voice but I knew all at once that it was a lie. Without hesitating I bolted through the front door, straight down the porch steps and into the lightly spitting rain. I had just reached my mothers' car as she was about to reverse out the driveway. I banged on my mother's window.

"MOMMY!" I sobbed, "Please don't leave me and Daddy behind!"

"Charlie grab Lucia, I can't deal with her right now. I'll talk to her later when we get to my Mother's," Mom said through the wound down window.

Before I knew it, Dad had grabbed me and held me to him.

"You could at least say goodbye to her properly, Renee," tried Dad.

"I can't stay here another minute! Just let me go, Charlie!" Mom exclaimed reversing the car out of the driveway.

I cried the whole time, watching as half my family took off without me. So yeah… you could probably understand why I don't like sharing that particular detail about my life.

A couple weeks later, Dad received the divorce papers in the mail. The status quo changed from four to two and eventually, Dad and I carved out our own little happiness in this tiny town just the two of us. That is, except for when either Bella came to stay with us or when I went to visit Mom and Bella in Phoenix.

I was able to move on, for the most part. Making my family out of the people that stuck close to Dad and myself. The Black family was our rock during this time, Billy Black, Dad's best friend, helped support Dad and get his life back together. Sarah, Billy's wife became like another mother to me and Jacob, their son, became my own best friend.

Things have changed a lot since then. I'm now going into my freshmen year of high school, and Dad has told me that Bella's going to be moving back to Forks after Mom's wedding to her new man in September. I'm excited to have Bella here on a more permanent basis, hopefully we can go back to how we were before she left with Mom.

Hello everyone!

This is my very first FanFiction. After a long time reading everything and anything, I've decided to try my hand at writing one for my own. Don't know why I decided to start with Twilight, but guess I've always thought that Jacob got cucked ending up with a child. So here's my take on a Jacob/OC story. I will be changing the timeline of things a bit because I really hate that the whole saga happened in only a year. Hope everyone enjoys, feel free to leave a comment or a critique.
