Naruto: The Gamer, a naruto fanfic

My name is Naruto Uzumaki, future hokage of the Village Hidden in the Leaves and badass ninja in training.

But

Something happened to me recently and I acquired something called the Gamer?

At first, I thought that maybe I was being pranked. I've practically pranked 80 to 70 percent of the people of the village. So it only makes sense for someone to get even. Though, usually they would try to hit me or throw stuff at me.

At first I was under a genjutsu, maybe I pranked a senior ninja. A genin, chunin, maybe some of the jonin or anbu I pranked?

No, it was something else entirely.

It changed my whole perspective of how I view the world. My entire life became like a game. I remember some students and peers from clans used to bring some kind of consoles which this game reminds me of.

Technology is not something we ninja usually rely on but some rich kids from clans occasionally bring their consoles to the academy and sometimes I would discreetly watch. It seems like my case is that my life became like an rpg? A genre of games that you play on a console.

Though I don't hate it, in fact I welcome it. After all, it can make me grow stronger. I'm certain that it can also be a major help in attaining my dream of becoming the hokage.

It all started one day after I lost a spar with our class's so-called top student, Sasuke Uchiha.

My back against the ground as a fist stopped just a hair away from my face. A fist that belonged to the person I disliked the most. Sasuke Uchiha, the number one male student of our year.

"Tch" I slapped his fist away as I pushed his body away from me.

"You got lucky this time, bastard" I snarled as I made my way back only to be called back by Iruka-sensei and scolded by my female classmates.

"Naruto, come back and form the Unison sign with Sasuke!"

"Stupid Naruto, what do you think you're doing to Sasuke!"

"Don't disrespect Sasuke!"

I frowned as I looked back at the stoic look at the bastard's face. Why do they find him attractive? He doesn't even do anything to them, as far as I remember, he's always ignored them or outright told them they annoyed him. Girls are weird.

"Grrr, fine! Hmph! Next time, I'll beat you bastard!" I scowled as I formed the unison sign and held it out to Sasuke.

"Yeah right, loser" He smirked as he too formed the Unison sign

"Alright! Thank you, Naruto and Sasuke for the last taijutsu battle. Now then let's go back into the classroom" Iruka-sensei said

'Ugh, so boring!' I thought as I felt my eyes drooping. Iruka-senei's lectures are always so boring!

I closed my eyes for a moment before I heard a yell.

"Naruto! Stop sleeping in class, listen or else you'll fail again!" I heard before I jolted awake.

"Yes!" I said as I stood up and saluted as the other students laughed.

I sat back down with a sigh before I looked down at my notes as I reviewed them when suddenly I saw something weird.

I got a little bit stronger than when I first started. I started at level 3 and my strength and dexterity were at a respective 7 and 8. It seems that every time I level up I would get a two or three point boost in most of my stats. Mostly my physical stats though, while my other stats I would have to increase manually through points.

Also it seems my CP increases every time my VIT and INT increase. Which I guess makes sense because chakra is supposed to be a mix between physical and spiritual energy.

Due to logical thinking, WIS increased by 1

Originally my VIT was an 11 and my INT was at a measly 3. Seems for every 1 VIT and INT I get another 100 CP. Doesn't increase if I just increase one without the other though.

So far, I think I should hold onto my points for now. I'm doing fine right now, who knows maybe in the future I'll be needing it.

Right now I'm walking around transformed into an average looking boy with brown eyes and hair. My transformation looks a few years older than I am so vendors will take me more seriously as who knows, they might try to trick an 11 year old child.

Stopping in front of one street vendor, I look at the things he's selling before calling the man out.

"Hey boss! Can I get one bag of rice, a pound of tomatoes, 3 onions, a pack of garlic, and two cabbages?!"

I would be lying if I wasn't nervous, after all it was my first time buying anything without anyone plain out chasing me out. Though thanks to one of my skills [Gamer's Mind]

Now leaving the stall with some plastic bags on toe, I couldn't help but be bothered.

I should invest in some storage scrolls, at least that way I won't need to carry all these grocery bags. I wonder if the game has anything for storage.

"A bit small for you" She asked as I chuckled sheepishly. "It's for my little brother, he's an academy student"

Handing the money, she quickly went to pack the new pairs of clothing I bought. Sigh, 9,500 ryo spent all in a day. 10 weeks worth of saving up, all gone! I remember those bitter days, only using 1,000 out of the 2,000 Jiji gave me to save those money up.

At least, I can buy ingredients now. Cooking my own food should save me some money instead of just buying ramen all the time.

Good, my WIS increased by 4 and my CHA increased by one, though I still have another -40 CHA debuff so I doubt the 1 point increase would do anything. But hey, it's progress.

Another good thing is my 25% increase of EXP gain because of my Academy Student occupation. I got an extra 25 EXP due to the 25% increase. Nice.

Now inside my apartment I took out all the ingredients I bought and was surprised. The chicken breasts are still frozen? But I took an hour picking out clothes, they should have unfroze by now. Don't tell me… that in the inventory… time doesn't affect them?

Grabbing a bowl I cracked an egg before seasoning them with salt and mixing it. I already had things like salt, pepper, and cooking oil from previous cooking attempts. Turning on the stove, I oiled up the pan and turned the heat on low and waited for the pan to heat up.

After waiting a few minutes I put the egg in along with some bacon. Scrambling the eggs, I didn't care that they stuck to the bacon. Hey it was practically my first time actually trying to cook. Food is Food.

After a few minutes it was done, the eggs were slightly overcooked but I liked it that way, besides the bacon got crunchy.

Question is… How?! Do I just eat normal and healthy foods? All I've been eating before has been just ramen or instant ramen. Though the quest was (Peak Body), I guess I'll have to exercise as well.

Tapping the [Y] button got out of my pajamas and put on a normal orange shirt with a leaf symbol, a pair of pants and also wore my orange jacket. Hey, although I won't wear them as my everyday clothes, it doesn't mean I won't wear them when training or exercising.

I made my way outside before I grinned and sped out in a full on sprint. Ever since I could remember, I always had better stamina than the rest of those my age. Hell, I can outrun most genin and chunin. I've been doing it since I started pranking, since after a prank a platoon of ninja's will be hot on my tail.

Before I knew it, I'd already run a quarter of the village. Well, it is easy after all. I've always jumped from rooftop to rooftop avoiding ninja, sometimes even going as far as to circle around the village a few times. I could totally finish this under the time limit, hell I can finish it in under 45 minutes.

With the wind against my face, I ran even harder. Though after some time, two others joined me screaming 'youth!'. They wore these hideous green spandex with bowl cuts and big eyebrows. At first I thought they were a father-son pair by their looks but by using [observe] on them, I found out they were just teacher and student.

I was shocked though, not by the Jonin's but by the Genin, Rock Lee's stats. He was only one year older than me yet he's so much stronger than me. My [observe] can at most only see those 10 levels above me. Meaning Rock Lee is at least level 15 or higher in order for my question marks to appear on my [observe].

Still though, I was impressed. Both were similar, only relying on taijutsu to get where they are now. I found myself laughing and questioning how they were not father and son, or at the very least related.

The jonin in spandex said as I finished my second lap. I felt faint beads of sweat forming on my forehead but I looked at the duo to see both of them not even bothered.

"That's right, Gai-sensei! He is the most admirable, it brings me great joy that there are others also enjoying their springtime of youth!" The mini version of the jonin said.

Is the difference between a genin and I that much?!

No. Looking over Lee's description, he just trains much much more than others. I temporarily ignored the notice from the gamer indicating that I finished the quest to look back at the duo.

"Nice to meet you, Naruto Uzumaki, future hokage and currently badass ninja in training" I stated causing the jonin to widen his eyes momentarily before going back to normal. It was but a sudden one, if one weren't paying attention they might have not seen it, but I had.

This jonin knows of me?! I don't think my reputation has reached that level yet. Sure maybe a handful of genin or chunin, but those that are responsible for guarding the Hokage Rock.

"Well, Naruto-kun, keep burning the flames of youth and you'll be a genin in no time! Rest assured that so long as you keep training, you can be strong. Take the word of Konoha's Sublime Beast for it!" He said, pointing to himself "Maito Gai!"

"S-so cool! Gai-sensei!" Lee said before he looked at me and doing the same pose as Gai, he pointed his thumb towards him and introduced himself "And as with I, Konoha's Wild Beast Rock Lee!"

"I see… well, Gai-san, Lee-san. I'll need to get going, I still have to attend academy." I said as they nodded in understanding before they took off with a sprint. Looks like on daily they do more than a measly two laps.

Sigh. I'll admit, although they were both quirky. There's no mistaking that they are both strong, Gai is understandable since he's a jonin but Lee is only a year older. Nevermind, I can easily get stronger as well anyway.

Oh shit, I only have 30 minutes?! I still have to shower and change damnit! Hitting the [Y] button I sprinted to the direction of my apartment.

After looking at how much more Exp I needed until a level up, I headed off to the academy. I took 10 minutes to shower and 5 minutes to change my clothes but still had 15 minutes. It was enough for me to make it to the academy.

Walking to the academy, the civilians were already awake as the desolate streets from when I went for a run became filled. Though most of them glared at me to the point that I developed a new skill, [Detect Bloodthirst]

Opening the door, I walked in and looked around. It was a mess, some students in the back are either laying their head down or down right sleeping. Some others were eating or playing. Then there's a whole group of girls all just fighting for the bastard's attention.

Sighing, I walked in as I was prompted to complete my quest. I spotted an almost desolate table, with only one person occupying the middle of the room. I grinned and happily made my way over, Hinata was always nice so I thought she would let me sit next to her.

"Hey Hinata-chan, most of the seats are taken, can I sit here?" I said in a low voice while pointing to the empty seat.

I looked at her and noticed that she had an adorable blush on as she fidgeted. Classic Hinata, she was always super shy to the point of making her extremely adorable. She nodded quickly as I whispered a 'thank you' and took my seat.

Afterwards I looked at the table and grabbed one of the textbooks. I didn't want to look suspicious tapping the air so I'll just open and stand the book in front of me.

No doubt that today, we'll be doing sparring matches and throwing shuriken and kunai again. I guess I'll use some points to increase my stats

I had a debuff that minuses 5 from my physical stats so, even if I have 10 on STR, 13 on DEX, and 15 on VIT, they are all five points over lower. This means I only have a measly 5 for STR. I don't need to worry about VIT for now so STR and DEX. With my debuff, DEX equals to 8 so I'll put 4 points in strength and 1 in dexterity.

10 strength and 10 dexterity, what a huge improvement. Before I got the gamer ability I only had 7 strength and with the debuff it was only a 2. No wonder Sasuke always beats me so quickly. I was weak!

'Wait why are some of them wrinkling their eyebrows and others scoffing?! Are they jealous of my badassery?!'

"No, you're saying all of that out loud you idiot" Shikamaru stated with a bored tone.

"Alright class, today we have a surprise quiz!" Iruka-sensei said as he patted the stack of papers on his desk. I heard groans around me while I too felt a bit annoyed, my INT and WIS are still a bit too low for getting full marks.

It's nearing graduation, we only have less than 6 months left and I want ALL of you to graduate" Iruka-sensei said though why do I feel like that last part was especially meant for me?

I quickly accepted it before looking up at the clock and then at my desk. I didn't have notes, everytime I took notes I would throw them away… I looked around at every student reviewing their own notes before looking next to me.

My only hope! Hinata-sama my angel! I pray to you!

"Psst… Hinata-chan!" I said quietly and softly nudged her arm. She was startled before she looked at me. Awe she's blushing, don't worry Hinata, I'll keep talking to you so you can get used to socializing. Then before you know it, you won't be shy anymore! Believe it!

"Can you share your notes? I.. ugh forgot mine.. Please Hinata-chan?!" I begged her with a whisper. She looked around before she nodded quickly and positioned her notebook to the center of the table in between us.

"Thanks Hinata, I really owe you one" I told her as her face heated up again. I mentally shook my head before swearing that I'll fix her shyness.

I looked over the neatly written notes and started memorizing them. It was easy since Hinata organized all of them neatly. All of the topics that were related were all written in one area and the others are all in bullet points.

Okay, I'm ready. By the time I stopped my musing everyone already cleared their notes and were waiting patiently. I looked at my desk mate before I gave her a thumbs up. "Good Luck, Hinata-chan! Make sure you score high!" I told her.

She nodded shyly before she also tried to cheer me on.

"Y...y-you too, N-Naruto-kun" She said in a low mosquito-like voice. If I weren't so close to her, I probably would have never heard her. I gave her a kind smile as I nodded towards her before going back to waiting.

"Once you get your papers and pencils, you may begin!" Iruka-sensei said as he went around the class handing out the quiz papers and pencils.

Once he got towards my desk he handed both Hinata and I our papers and writing materials before he gave me a stern stare as if to say "You better do good!" to which I nodded.

Once I got the test I looked at the questions and to my absolute surprise, I knew them. Easily breezing through the first part of the quiz consisting of multiple choice answers, I headed the next part. Short answers.

Finishing up the short answers I looked at the last remaining question. Write a paragraph on the events of the tragedy 11 years ago… It's talking about the Nine Tails Attack right? The old man used to tell me tales of the Bijuu's power.

After spending 5 to 10 minutes on a detailed summary on the Nine Tails' attack I was done. I stood up surprising those around me as they momentarily stopped writing in their papers to look at me.

I shrugged before I headed towards Iruka-sensei's desk where he sat grading the papers of those already finished. When I arrived in front of him he looked up with a stunned look before squinting.

"... You're the Fourth one to finish Naruto… You better have taken this seriously!" He said taking my paper.

"I did Iruka-sensei! I studied really hard too…" I told him before he nodded suspiciously and started grading my work, as he graded it he looked stunned then shocked before that morphed into confusion then a little rage?!

"Did you cheat?" He asked me seriously… Did I cheat, what the hell?

"Ugh… No?" I said confused before he looked at me suspiciously

"Answer truthfully Naruto, you always scored low on quizzes and tests. In fact sometimes you outright never even answered one question" He said as I felt my cheeks heat up.

I coughed in my hand slightly before answering trying to get rid of my blush. "Ahem, that's cuz I was never serious, y'know?! I told you I was going to be serious this year" I say hoping it was a convincing argument.

"Aright, but I still don't trust you. Here" He said, handing me another paper. "Those are another quiz but it was for another class. It's from the same lesson from the quiz you just took so if you studied the notes then you should be able to question them. Take a seat here in the front, I'll watch you take it then I'll grade it afterwards" He said, I was about to argue on how unfair it was but he stopped me

"I know you think it's unfair, but you have to look at it from my point of view as well. A student that has bad grades, never listens or pays attention into class, or even bothers to do work or touch his quizzes and tests suddenly starts answering quizzes correctly out of nowhere" He said.

"Fine" I mumbled before taking the paper and sat in the front. I then looked at the test before looking back up to my teacher who looked at me intently. I sighed before I started writing on the quiz paper.

30 minutes later, I turned in my paper. Iruka-sensei took it but didn't grade it immediately due to the fact that since he was watching me, all the other students finished and the paperwork piled up. He told me to go back to my seat so I nodded and complied.

Nodding to Hinata I took a seat before Iruka-sensei called out to the class getting everyone's full attention.

"Alright everyone! In the next 30 minutes while I'm grading you are all free from work. You can talk to your friends but please don't be too loud and you may eat or drink so long as you clean up after yourselves." After finishing what he said he sat back down and started grading.

"Hey Naruto!" I heard behind me while I waited for Iruka-sensei to finish grading so I could finish my quest. Turning around to look behind me, I saw Kiba and Choji walking near my table along with Shikamaru, who was being dragged by Choji.

"Oh, hey what's up guys" I said. I honestly don't know what my relations with these guys are. Are we friends? I don't think so… I remember Kiba always made fun of me when I failed or rubbed it in my face when I scored super low.

Shikamaru, well he's okay but I won't go as far as to say he's a friend. I remember him calling me dumb before.

Now thinking back on all of it… I've never really had any friends. More like, I was just really trying to fit in when in reality, I've been just making myself look like a fool more than anything.

Choji, well he's nice. I remember him sticking up for me when Shikamaru called me dumb but well he's nice to everyone.

"What's with that outfit? Are you trying to copy Sasuke and get some girls' attention?" Kiba asked though it was more of a mocking tone.

"No, exactly like I told Iruka-Sensei. My old one got worn out and these were on sale so it was a plus. I'm tight on money so I didn't really have a choice, if I did I would have worn orange" I smiled as Choji nodded in understanding.

"By the way Naruto, why did you have to retake the quiz in front of Iruka-Sensei?" Choji said as he turned to me.

"Ah, he thought I was cheating" I scoffed. Sure I could see how suddenly getting good grades are suspicious when I always had bad ones, but I wasn't trying then! Now I am though.

"Troublesome, sounds like something you would do" Shikamaru said

"What?! No! I just never tried, but I want to pass this year so I'm giving it my all" I said though I'm beginning to think it wasn't convincing by the looks they were giving me. "Well, anyway apparently I got a full score on the first one and Iruka-sensei thought I was cheating so he made me retake a quiz that's from the same lesson we're on but just one from a different class" I explained.

"Really?! But a full score? Yeah, right!" Kiba said, causing me to frown.

"Yeah, really. You want to make a bet?" I said as I felt my lips curl upwards. "I bet, my test scores will be at least an A, I'll bet you 5,000 ryo"

"Deal!" Kiba said as he grinned "Ha! I know for a fact you'll get a low test score again Naruto"

"Sign me up too" Choji said while Shikamaru also joined in.

"Alright, which ones are you two voting for?" I said, hopefully they were on the same side as Kiba and bet against me. Then I could earn an easy 15,000 ryo.

"I'll bet 5,000 that Naruto gets a high grade," Choji said. Damnit Choji! As much as that means a lot to me, it isn't giving me money! "And you Shikamaru?"

"I'll bet the same as Kiba, I mean really Naruto? For the last 2 years you always scored last" He said. That was fair, I resisted smirking but I held it in. All I had to think about was that I was splitting the money with Choji, instead of 10,000, I'll just be getting 5,000.

We talked for the remainder of the 30 minutes about random things until Iruka-sensei was done and the others went back to their seats.

"Alright, everyone. When I call your names, come up and receive your quiz papers!" he said as he started calling out names.

"Kiba Inuzuka!"

"Heh! Coming sensei!" He said as he gave me a look that said "You're going to lose the bet" to which I just gave a smile in return. After a few more names it was finally my turn.

"Naruto Uzumaki!"

I stood up and walked towards Iruka-sensei. Some others that didn't pay attention to me since class started looked startled, probably because of my new getup. I saw looks of surprise from people like Sasuke, Ino, Sakura, and some of the other civilians.

"Here Naruto, looks like you were telling the truth. Keep it up" Iruka-sensei said, encouraging me while I only nodded and looked at my paper with a grin.

I got a full score, though it was mostly due to Hinata having all of the important parts of the lesson in her notes. I walked back to my seat and when I was just about to sit down I locked eyes with Kiba.

I smirked while flashing him the score on my paper and watched him gape. Evidently it was a big deal as some of the other students who saw my score also wore looks of disbelief. Oh man did that feel good.

Sitting down I felt a stare from my deskmate and saw Hinata looking at me. Though she looked like she was deciding on whether to talk to me or not. "Hey, what's up Hinata-chan? By the way, congratulations on getting a full score" I said.

I saw her nod shyly before she also spoke "T-Thank you… Also… c-congragulations to you as well… N-Naruto-kun"

I gave her a wide smile as well as a nod to where I smiled wider at the pop up that appeared in front of me.

Kunai and Shuriken practice, maybe I can compare the Shuriken I got with the ones from the academy. The academy's are supposed to be basic shuriken like the ones I got but why do I remember them feeling so uneven and unsharpened.

Iruka-sensei took all of us out to the practice range where the other academy instructor was already waiting. Mizuki… someone who is unusually friendly towards me…

Description:

Mizuki, like Iruka, was an orphan. He was also the childhood friend of Iruka Umino though he started to hate him due to the fact that Iruka got better treatment but still acted like a friend to secretly make him miserable. Due to a controversy from a mission he was in, he had at first failed to get the position of an academy instructor. He never forgot about that and began to hate the village

It seems that quests are somewhat easy to predict. If I remember correctly from watching some kids play with their video games, quests are generated mostly so the player can follow the end goal of the game.

I'm guessing since I'm now the 'player' and my end goal is to be 'Hokage', the game is making quests that would lead me to be hokage…?

I was in group 3 with people I didn't really talk to. They, like me, were all civilians, it seemed that the clan kids went first.

I was browsing my pc for some stuff and found this document of a fanfic I wrote years ago before even the pandemic. Though I probably won't continue it since I have long forgotten the whole premise or route of where I was taking this fanfic. I'll just post it and leave it as a one-shot.
