Jen watched as the smaller figure started to push itself up before collapsing. Sense of duty had Jen huffing before she pointed. The dogs rushed forward, sniffing all over before backing up. No big reactions mean it's safe to move them. Finding an orange ball of fur, she carefully tucked Daxter into a cat bed and stashed him on a higher shelf. And promptly whapped the dogs on their heads, who were outright eyeing the ottsel. "Not food, not game. No."
Tugging both people away from the tv and tucking a pillow beneath their heads, she started making plans. Fictional characters literally falling into your life? People dream of that a lot. The first thing to consider is protection. As many fans would want to keep the characters safe, there are greedy people who only think of profit. Food, water and a place to sleep. No problem. Got plenty of space and money. Protection however. Despite her best efforts, people still get lost or trespass on her land and it wasn't small. She has to go out, find these people and drop them off in a neighboring town. Not to mention, she goes out on patrols to check the lands and equipment purposely left out there. Again, the land isn't small. 50 miles by 60 miles. 19,200 acres.
'Well, looking after just two won't be so bad.' The TV, previously off, turned back on with click. Images started flowing, showing off most of the characters from the game. Then a rift ring appeared on the screen. The air started growing stiff again and it happened again. And again. And again. The characters that were shown on screen came tumbling out. They were all out cold as well. All in all, Jen now has Jak, Daxter, Damas, Tess, Torn, Ashelin, Samos, Jinx, Sig, Kleiver, Vin, Seem and Keira in her care. The dogs had a good time putting their noses to work.
"Do I have extra . . ."
"What hit us?" Whipping her head, Jen looked around the room and saw Daxter sitting up. Watching him look around in confusion, things came to a screeching halt at his next choice of words. "Mom?" What? Paws clacked against the shelf as he started to make his way down.
"Mom! Am I glad to see you. You were right about the rocket aiming for, Hey! What gives?" Paws on the hips and a sour face were ignored as Jen placed back up on the shelf.
"You stay put. And don't call me that."
"Mom?" And our main character is up. 'Eeesh. I knew he was a bit on the younger side, but seriously, get rid of the goatee and he's baby. Wait. MOM!? Why are they both calling me that?'
"Jen?" And the Dad is up. 'How the hell does he know my name? Why is he looking at me like that?'
"Pops!" "Father!" 'They know their dad!?'
Everyone else was starting to get up as well. Voices ran over each other as everyone tried to figure out what happened. They all seem to know Jen as well and tried to talk to her, but she ignored them. Panic was rising up fast and she was inching to the window, ready to jump out onto Goliath. All the horses were right outside, having sensed something was up.
Her saving grace was when there was a loud explosion went off outside. Rushing out the door, everyone was greeted to the sight of a giant . . . rift ring? hovering high in the air before the energy within faded away. All the separate pieces froze. Instead of simply falling, they shot off in many different directions.
"Oh great. That is most likely our only way home. Jak, you had best get . . ."
"You are not ordering my children to do anything!"
"QUIET!" Jen was done being out of control. On her own land! "I don't give a blasted FUCK of what's going on!" Turning the green man and the man with metal sticking out of his skull, "Neither of you are in charge in here!" Snapping her head to face the two people with tattoos on their faces, "None of you are!"
Taking a moment to glance over the horses behind everyone, "It's late. Behind you are my horses, they will bring you to the Town Hall. It's more than time for bed." No one had time to argue as said horses started nudging at their shoulders. The equines made the choices of their riders and sat down, folding their legs beneath their mass to make mounting easier for the first-time riders.
Sgt. Reckless took Torn. Vintage took Samos. Bayonetta took Sig. Xanthos took Ashelin. Sunfire took Jinx. Cherri Bomb took Tess. Aurora took Keira. Chiron took Seem. Samson took Jak. Moondancer took Damas. Copper took Kleiver. Claret took Vin.
"Hey! No biting! No ACK!" Apparently Sugar Rush just nipped Daxter at the back of his scruff and tossed him on her back. Jen shook her head at the scene and climbed onto Goliath.
"Steady pace! Town Hall! Forward!"
TT
It was a bit funny to see the characters, people, try not to walk funny. Smothering her snickers, Jen pulled the door open to reveal a decently sized lobby. "Welcome to the Town Hall. In the back, take the left door. It's a hallway full of guest rooms. Head down and take your pick. And no smoking in here." Ignoring the look of over exaggerating on Jinx's face as she snagged the cigar out of his mouth and snuffed it out, Jen waved her hand.
"Come on people. I'm sure it's been a long day for you all. Go get some sleep and we'll work things out in the morning. Bathrooms are over if needed."
Very surprisingly, no one complained. Oh, she got a few looks. And a look of . . . longing from Damas? 'If they really did know me personally, then they know I don't take no lying down. And why does that king keeps looking at me like that?' They all trudged forward, chose their rooms and the doors are shut.
After waiting for an appropriate amount of time, Jen rode back to her house and ordered the horses back to the stables. Instead of reaching for the doorknob, she bent down and lifted the doormat. Underneath was a metal panel. Slapping both hands down, the panel lit up. "Access granted." The metal slid back to reveal a ladder. Dogs gathering around the entryway, "Guard the entry," Jen started the climb down.
Lights flickered on as she passed the motion sensors. It takes ten minutes to reach top to bottom and vice versa. It's always a good idea to clear your head before deciding to go through with a plan. Reaching the ground, "Lights on!"
One of the big secrets of the property is a maze of tunnels hidden underground. It covers the majority of the land. And there are many rooms too. Whether for storage, lab testing, barracks or imprisonment, there is more than enough room down there. It went down 13 floors. It was also has pretty advanced technology. While Jen was certain floating platforms were around, the AI was all she needs most of the time.
Tossing a door open, her sight was greeted with a supercomputer you would expect to see in a superhero's cave or lair. "Tony!" Screen flickering on, an image of Iron Man's helmet came on. It wasn't red and gold, rather white and silver. She respected the fictional character enough to have him as her main source of help. "Evening. We have multiple unknown people and animal in the Town Hall. An explosion approximately one hour, again of unknown origins. And the scattering of many objects and energy of yet again, unknown origins"
Yawning, Jen waved her hand. "I know. I was there." Taking a moment to flip through images on another screen, "Start marking down the spots of all unknown objects on the map and print." Tapping on a desired image and pulling up a different screen. "Make an increase on the weekly grocery list and have it shipped here by tomorrow night. I should have just enough to feed everyone for the day. Give them all a scan. How's their health?"
"All still awake and like they all came out of a battle. Bruises, burns, dehydration, minor malnourishment, and exhaustion."
"Send the nanites through the air ducts. I want access to their health and locations at all times. Give them a small dosage of sleeping gas, they need it. Oh, and get my selected obstacle course ready by 5 AM. And start scouring the internet, make sure they do NOT come across any . . . unsavory pictures of themselves. And lastly, have the big guns ready in case."
"You got it!"
There really wasn't much after that. A torn-up coyote by the entrance and the dogs looking quite proud. She waved them in and they all settled down in their fluffy beds. Jen simply grabbed a few blankets and dumped them on her cot. A quick change later and she was just about out for the night.
'I'll wake them up via trumpet at 10 tomorrow.'
