Sofia - The Perfect Gift
.
Summary: Cedric looks at the child of his late wife and remembers how sometimes despite tragedy, he had the greatest gift of all, his daughter, Sofia.
When Miranda had told Cedric that she was pregnant, he was the happiest man in the world, it felt like he got all of his birthday and Wassalia presents all at once.
9 months were devoted to morning sickness, mood swings, weird cravings, baby names and decorating the nursey and even a baby shower.
But nothing could prepare them for the day Miranda went into labor, it was 12 hours of panting, swearing, walking and pushing, until finally, she gave birth to a baby girl, who they named Sofia.
Cedric was amazed by the tiny person in his arms, the one he had helped create and bring into this world, but soon the celebration of life, quickly turned tragic as Miranda started to lose a lot of blood, the doctors did everything they could to save her. but they Couldn't
For Cedric he broke down crying the moment his wife's coffin was lowered into the ground, while holding their child in his arms, upset that she never know her mother or what an amazing person she was, but he had to be strong for Sofia, be the best parent he could be.
As the years flowed by Sofia grew into a kind, loving and stubborn, who loves her family, especially her Dad, hanging out with her friends in the village.
Sometimes Sofia would see her Mom's sisters, Maria, Morgana and Marlena, they would sometimes tell stories about her Mom when they were kids and sometimes they would say she was just like her, but a lot of times Sofia would overhear them and their friends say that it was disappointing that Sofia didn't have Miranda natural talent with designing or was more lady like.
Often times Sofia tried to be like her Mom, she tried to design her own clothes, but it ended in disaster and her fingers were covered in many bandages, she tried to be more lady like but it felt boring and stuffy.
For Sofia, she felt like a failure for not being more like her Mom, when she voiced this to her father, Cedric was quick to say.
"Don't listen to them, you are you and I love you no matter what, I don't care that you can't sew or dance, you are your own person, and I know that your Mother would be proud of the person you becoming."
Sometimes when she was feeling down, she going to her Mother's garden, apparently Miranda loved to work with plants as a hobby and Cedric had hired gardeners to maintain it, until Sofia started to show interest, and it was discovered she had a green thumb, which apparently Miranda didn't have.
Sitting on the bench, Sofia took a deep calming breath as she looked at the home she has known her whole life, sometimes she will ask herself.
If I could begin to be
Half of what you think of me
I could do about anything
I could even learn how to love
When I see the way you act
Wondering when I'm coming back
I could do about anything
I could even learn how to love like you
I always thought I might be bad
Now I'm sure that it's true
'Cause I think you're so good
And I'm nothing like you
Look at you go
I just adore you
I wish that I knew
What makes you think I'm so special
If I could begin to do
Something that does right by you
I would do about anything
I would even learn how to love
When I see the way you look
Shaken by how long it took
I could do about anything
I could even learn how to love like you
Love like you
Love me like you
Later that evening after Cedric tucks Sofia into bed, he watches as she sleeps peacefully smiling as he remembers something he used say to Miranda when she asked why he never wanted anything for his birthday or holidays, he would simple wrap his arms around her and kiss her with all the love and devotion he had for her before saying.
"Sometimes the best gifts aren't wrapped in pretty paper and bows." And he couldn't have been more right.
The End
