FOOL ME ONCE…
Veronica appreciated the uneven quiet that descended upon Diamond City at nighttime. Rarely in the post-apocalyptic world had she been able to appreciate stillness since…
…she downed another shot as the image of the burning Prydwen once again danced in her mind's eye. She had not been there to witness the Railroad's work, but she had heard of it, had seen the wreck near Boston Airport.
Wherever she went, the Brotherhood died.
…
She remembers the moment she had learned Gabriela destroyed them all.
She stormed out of the Lucky 38 without saying anything, determined to kill the woman. But midway to her current location of Jacobstown, Veronica realized a woman who could kill her entire family could probably kill her.
She stopped. Looked up at the sky. Screamed.
Then she went eastward.
…
SOLE SURVIVOR: Are you sure you don't want to join me?
VERONICA: Absolutely fucking positive. I know how this goes. You'll use me to get to the Brotherhood, and then destroy them.
SOLE SURVIVOR: Tell me about the Brotherhood of Steel.
VERONICA: What, so you can blow them up like she did? Fat chance. Now if there's nothing else, I'd like to get back to my shop.
…
"Veronica's Repairs is here for you! Come get your equipment fixed!"
She did her best to sound enthusiastic, but her heart wasn't in it. And she dropped her friendly demeanor entirely when THAT MAN approached her.
"No. No way. The fucking Railroad isn't welcome at my shop."
"Why not?" Nate asked.
"Why not? Why NOT?! Ask around, asshole. I was in the Brotherhood. You can't kill my people and expect to patronize my business. Now get the hell out of my sight!"
Nate turned away, and Veronica enjoyed a rare moment of happiness.
