pSunny woke up, at home in her room. She was surrounded by anime plushies and cute pillows on her bed. Anime posters and fanart adorned her sunshine yellow walls. The sun came in between her yellow curtains. She stretched and looked outside, it was a bright, beautiful morning. Her first morning in her own bed after an exhilarating first year at Rainbow High. She scooped up some plushies and pillows and hugged them all. "It feels so good to be back for the summer!" she said to herself. Then she sniffed the air, a familiar smell came from the hallway. "Pancakes!" she cheered and bolted out of bed, still in her pajamas. She moved so fast, some of her plushies and pillows fell on the floor in her wake./p
pSure enough, in the kitchen, Celeste Madison had made pancakes. She was just putting some sliced fruit in a smiley face as Sunny ran in. "YAY! Mom, they're perfect!" Sunny cheered and scrambled into a chair./p
p"Just the way you like them!" Celeste said as she handed the decorated stack of pancakes on a plate to her daughter. "I wanted you to start your summer break with your favorite breakfast." she added as she brought her own plate to the table and sat across from Sunny. "In fact, I was on the phone with Mrs. Willow, and we've made some fun plans for you and your best friend Violet."/p
p"Really?" Sunny asked with her first bite of pancake hovering in front of her face, on her fork, that she was about to eat. "What kinda plans?"/p
p"Well, our trips to the spa have been awfully quiet without you two, so we're all going together today! Just like after your junior high graduation," Celeste couldn't help but spill the beans./p
p"You mean, we're getting gel mani/pedis?" Sunny gasped./p
p"Sunny, careful, you'll choke on your food, and yes, you can even get some nail art," Celeste pat Sunny's back carefully./p
p"Yay! You're the best Mom!" Sunny bounced out of her chair and gave her mother a big hug./p
p"You're welcome, now finish your pancakes and get dressed. We're going to meet Mrs. Willow and Vi there," Celeste said as she hugged her daughter back. While Sunny sat back down to finish her pancakes, Celeste got up and went down the hall to knock on her other daughter's door. "Luna, pancakes," she spoke through the door. She heard an irritated groan from the other side. "We're getting mani/pedis today, do you wanna come?" Celeste offered./p
pLuna stomped out of bed, and cracked open the door. "No Mom, I don't wanna go to the spa with you and Sunny and her social media obsessed friend or her creepy mother! I wanna go to the nail salon with my friends later!" she hissed. "Now leave me alone!" she snapped and shut her door./p
pCeleste sighed and shrugged her shoulders, then went back to her coffee./p
pThe parking lot at the spa was very busy, Celeste looked for a space to park, while Sunny texted Violet in the passenger seat. When they finally parked, Sunny noticed Violet and her mom both taking selfies in front of their white Mercedes Benz car, with a camera man. "They're they are Mom!" Sunny exclaimed, quickly unbuckling her seat and hopping out of the car./p
p"Sunny! Over here!" Violet waved with her free hand, the other holding her selfie stick. "Mom and I are taking before photos."/p
p"Mmm yes, hot trophy wife summer!" Viola said, while blowing a kiss to her camera man. "Fabian, get my worst side, I want this to be a glow up video," she instructed playfully. Fabian rolled his eyes and chuckled good naturedly./p
p"Moooom, you don't have a worst side!" Violet whined, then smiled at Sunny and Celeste as they approached. "Hi Sunny! Hi Mrs. Madison!"/p
pSunny gave Violet a big hug. "Hi Bestie! What a great way to start the summer!" she exclaimed. "I'm gonna get smiley face emojis on my nails."/p
p"I'm gonna get holographic shimmer and some rhinestones," Vi gushed about her plans./p
pWhen Viola was satisfied with the amount of before pictures taken, she walked up to Celeste and gave her air kisses on both cheeks. "Celeste Darling, good to see you, and Sunny is a little ball of sunshine as always."/p
pCeleste gave Viola air kisses back. "I would never miss our monthly spa visit, and yes, she is. She gets it from her dad. He's just a fireball of enthusiasm."/p
pSunny and Violet chatted as they entered the spa foyer. Celeste and Viola followed, with Fabian not far behind, carrying filming equipment. It was an enormous foyer, with eggshell walls, marble floors, and a water fountain in the center. Spa employees in off-white uniforms were waiting for them./p
p"Willow, party of four," Viola announced their presence to the waiting assistants./p
p"Of course, Mrs. Willow, thank you for coming, as always!" a cheerful attendant greeted them. "We have your room ready this way. Would you like to start with a glass of wine?"/p
p" Yes please, it's a botox day," Viola nodded, "Sodas for the girls, and Celeste?" she turned to Celeste to see what she wanted./p
p"Iced coffee for me, with cream and sugar," Celeste requested./p
p"Can I have a root beer?" Sunny asked./p
p"I'll take a Sprite," Violet ordered, half paying attention to her phone./p
pOne attendant took their orders and disappeared down the hallway, the other lead them to a beautiful room with 4 plush lounge chairs with foot baths at the end of each one. There were huge windows letting the morning sun shine in, and a view of the garden outside. Violet, Sunny, Celeste and Viola all took seats at them, carefully removing their sandals and open toed heels. Fabian set up camera equipment around Viola's seat./p
p"Ahhhhh," Violet sighed as she sat down and eased her feet into the hot footbath. "I'm so jealous you get to do this every month Mom!" she complained a little. "I totally wish there was a spa at Rainbow High."/p
p"Tell us all about school, Violet darling," Viola purred, her own feet soaking too. "We want to hear every detail!"/p
pSunny started, unprompted. "It's amazing! It's so colorful and everyone's so cool! Except Colin, but nobody likes Colin anymore."/p
p"Who's Colin?" Celeste asked, "Sounds like a boy's name."/p
p"Skyler's ex-boyfriend," Violet filled in the details. "They went out in Junior High, then he dumped her when they got here and hit on Ruby, it was a whole big thing at the prefect party."/p
p"Junior High is awfully young to have a boyfriend," Celeste furrowed her brows. "Not that I have to worry about that. Boys have cooties, right Sunny?"/p
p"Moooooom, I'm not a kid anymore, and some boys are cute! Like Amaya's boyfriend River!" Sunny swooned a bit. "They're so cute together!"/p
p"Oh no..." Celeste groaned. "I liked when you thought they had cooties!"/p
p"Relax Celeste, they're in high school now," Viola tried to comfort her friend. "It's only natural for them to start thinking about romance. Speaking of which, Violet, have any suitors caught your eye?"/p
pViolet blushed a bit. "Mooom!" it was her turn to whine. "I don't have time for boys, besides, I have my fans to think about!"/p
pAt that point, an attendant arrived with their drinks, along with four aestheticians. "Good morning ladies!" one greeted them again. "We're going to start with facials today. Do any of you have any specific concerns you'd like us to address with your facials?"/p
p"Wrinkles," Viola answered first./p
p"Dark circles," Celeste answered next./p
p"Acne!" Violet answered./p
p"Umm, I dunno, just gimme a fresh face!" Sunny shrugged./p
pWhile the aestheticians split up and started treating each customer's face, the attendant handed Fabian an extra Sprite. He nodded in thanks and took a sip, then picked up the camera and filmed a close up of Viola getting her face treated. Things were quiet for a while while each woman and girl got specialized treatment to address their concerns./p
pWhen facials were done, the nail technicians came in, and they could talk again./p
p"Are all the girls interested in boys already?" Celeste asked with concern./p
p"Nope! Some are dating other girls," Sunny answered. "Jade and Bella are so cute!"/p
p"Oh my! Do they get bullied?" Viola blurted out./p
p"Not at all, why would they?" Sunny responded./p
p"That sort of relationship used to be quite scandalous," Viola admitted./p
p"Mom, we're in the twenty-first century. Girls dating girls is normal," Violet assured her mother. She looked at her toenails, while the nail technician worked on them./p
p"That's wonderful!" Celeste beamed. "What a time to be alive, right Viola?"/p
p"Of course, of course..." Viola replied, but she sounded less happy. She was eyeing her enormous diamond ring. She seemed lost in thought. Fabian turned the camera off when she was like this, he looked worried./p
pThe attendant in charge cleared her throat, "Your toes are done ladies, would you like to go to the manicure stations now for your nails?"/p
p"Yeah! Smiley face time!" Sunny leapt out of her seat./p
p"Just a sec, taking toe pics," Violet answered, pointing her phone at her feet./p
p"Don't take too many toe pics, Violet, you know the weirdos online will collect them," Viola warned her daughter as she slipped back into her open toed heels. "Take them with your sandals on," she added, standing and posing so Fabian could photograph her./p
pThey all moved to the other room with the manicure stations. It was clean and beautiful, with displays of nail polishes lining every wall./p
p"Wooooow, this is my favorite room!" Sunny exclaimed, running to the wall to search for the perfect yellow. Violet followed after her to find the holographic lavender. Viola went straight to her seat and put her hands out for the nail technician to get started. Fabian followed her. Celeste sat next to Viola. Soon, all four were seated in a row of manicure tables./p
p"I really love my animation class, it's my favorite one! Storyboarding class is super helpful though, and the teachers let us combine our homework for the two classes since they go together. So my Hi Hi Kawaii project is going great!" Sunny happily gushed about classes and her work./p
p"Photo editing class is really helping me take my selfies to a new level!" Violet bragged a bit. "I mean, I thought I took good selfies before, but now they're even better." she admitted, scrolling backwards on her feed to look at her junior high photos./p
p"Those both sound excellent," Viola nodded in approval. "Even if you're going to pay other people to do those things for you when you're a big success, it helps to know how to do those things yourself."/p
pThe girls and their mothers chatted happily while they got their nails done. Sunny got her smiley faces as promised, and Violet got shimmering nails with tiny rhinestones. Celeste got long acrylics with bold colors, and Viola got long acrylics too, but with periwinkle and pearl accents. Fabian took pictures of everyone's finished manicures/p
pTheir attendant returned. "You all look lovely ladies. Would you like to get your hair done today too?" she offered./p
p"Oh oh! Can we Mom? Please?" Sunny jumped up and down. "I want my hair relaxed again!"/p
p"But I miss your precious curls," Celeste was reluctant./p
p"But MOOOOOM I want my hair to be like Sailor Moon!" Sunny whined./p
p"Fine..." Celeste conceded./p
p"Hair sounds good to me, I have some grays," Viola, muttered, eyeing herself in her smartphone screen./p
p"Me too, my roots are showing!" Violet exclaimed, also eyeing herself in her smartphone screen./p
p"Viola, I swear, you didn't just have a kid, you cloned yourself!" Celeste teased her long time friend./p
pThey all laughed and headed to the hair salon room./p
pWhen the attendant opened the salon room door, a waft of bleach and peroxide hit their noses. Sunny scrunched her nose, which made Violet chuckle./p
p"Don't complain, you said you wanted your hair relaxed!" Violet teased Sunny a bit, nudging her with her elbow./p
p"For Sailor Moon's look, it's worth it!" Sunny balled her hands into determined fists and marched into the salon. It was just as bright as the rest of the spa, with shampooing stations on the left, hair drying stations on the right, and rows of hairdressing chairs in the middle. Mirrors were everywhere, so Violet got distracted by her reflection. Viola nudged her forward, so they could continue./p
p"My daughter and I would like a color touch up please," Viola spoke to the attendant./p
p"My daughter would like her hair relaxed and I'd just like a deep condition," Celeste added./p
pThe attendant nodded and spoke to the salon staff who split up and got right to work. Sunny and Violet sat side by side in the shampooing stations while the hair aestheticians washed their hair. Sunny reached out and held Violet's hand. She wasn't nervous, she just liked to hold Violet's hand. Violet let her have her hand, taking progress pics with her phone in the other./p
pViola noticed the two holding hands and nudged Celeste. Celeste looked, then shrugged. Viola watched them for another moment, then was ushered to a shampooing station for her hair, so she couldn't look anymore. After their shampoos, each was moved to a styling chair for their requested services. Fabian set up the camera to film while the hair aesthetician dyed Viola's grays away./p
pViola's eyes closed, then snapped open. She looked to her side, to see Celeste had taken her hand. Sunny really took after her mother too. Viola was so lucky to have Celeste as a best friend. It was amazing that they both had children the same year, both healthy daughters too. Even better, that they both got into the prestigious school where she and Celeste met, so many years ago... She shut her eyes again./p
pAfter a long while, everyone's hair was done./p
p"Yay! My hair is so silky smooth!" Sunny cheered as she played with her hair, which looks even longer straightened. "Fighting evil by moonlight!" she started singing and twirling around in the lobby./p
p"I have a hundred likes on my glow up pics already and I just posted them!" Violet followed after Sunny, smartphone and selfie stick in hand./p
pViola posed in the foyer in front of the water fountain in the center. She waited patiently as Fabian took many pictures from various angles. "Huddle here ladies, I want a group photo!" Viola waved for Violet, Sunny and Celeste to join her. Celeste stood beside Viola and put her arm around her waist. Violet and Sunny stood in front and made a heart with their hands./p
p"Say cheese, Ladies!" Fabian said while holding up the camera./p
p"Cheese ladies!" they all said with smiles on their faces. It was a perfect picture./p
