"If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one." -Mother Teresa
Lithuania was used to the unexpected. After centuries fighting wars, political upheavals, and occupations a stranger appearing in the middle of his kitchen wouldn't even be considered a threat in the slightest. Especially not when his guest was just a little boy.
The child sat at his dining table swinging his feet and every so often casting curious glances his way. He had curly blond hair like fresh corn plucked from the fields, and vibrant green eyes that seemed to pierce into the soul. He actually looked a bit like Poland. It was quite cute.
Toris smiled to himself as kneaded the dumpling mixture into a ball then flattened it to the size of his palm. He then scooped up some meat filling, placing it inside and folded the excess dough around sealing it closed.
He was making cepelinai.
Although originally it was intended to be just for himself, he couldn't in his right mind not feed the boy when he was preparing food. That would be cruel to tease a child in such a manner.
The uninvited guest did not speak when Lithuania asked him his name the first couple times. He did not respond to his native language, Polish, or Russian. But, when Toris asked him again in English his cherub-like face lit up.
Motioning for something to write with, the older man understood and gave his visitor some stationary supplies that he usually kept for Raivis. Neatly writing something down, the boy pushed the paper towards him smiling.
I am Joey. Nice to meet you! :)
So, his charming intruder was Joey. Well that was good to know, however it would also be nice to know why he was here and how he got inside, but first Lithuania removed his potato dumplings from the pot and set them on a heater platter; his gravy was almost finished.
"It is nice to meet you too Joey. You may call me Toris."
With two plates in his hands, he set down the completed meal on the table for himself and the boy. Joey's eyes grew even bigger when the scent of the savory smells that hit his nose. He sent a very grateful look in the man's direction, who in return looked down at him kindly; then the tiny child promptly began shoveling food in his mouth.
"Would you like to tell me how you got here?" Toris asked between bites observing the other.
Quickly scrawling something, a note slid back to Lithuania.
Accidental universe traveling gone wrong. Happened because Kid Flash wanted special candy bars, but they're sold by a dimension hopping alien named Tony. We got separated after escaping a really weird version of Batman. Somehow I got sent here, but I don't know how. Sorry for coming out of nowhere, and thank you for the food!
Accidental universe traveling? Aliens? Batman?!
Toris internally groaned knowing exactly who we have to call to get this boy back home. But for now he and his other-world friend just enjoyed the moment of comforting food, away from all their troubles.
And somewhere in another reality a teenaged speedster was sitting on a couch looking guilty while his teammates scolded him and frantically panicked about losing their so-called 'baby' Jericho.
