CHAPTER 1

(SOOKIE'S P.O.V)

I picked up the last of the empty beer bottles, that was left behind by the drunken customers of Merlottes. It was midnight on a Thursday morning and I was exhausted. The last couple of hours were packed with hungry and drunk customers. Despite being tired I joined the last group of people, who were cracking jokes and letting out boisterous laughter. It was Bill, Mario, Tara, Arlene, and Lafayette who were all huddled by the bar. "That's not a bad idea Mario," Sam spoke up picking up a box to head towards the back with. "Yeah man, I can make a few calls get a yacht in Sheverport, and we can party it up for a couple of days." Mario explained drinking the last of his beer. "We don't even have to invite the entire BonTemp, just a few of us, could even bring the kids to make it into a family event."

"Sounds like a plan," Arlene grinned from ear to ear. "God knows it's hard to find a babysitter." "Kids or no kids, I could use a few days' vacation from this crazy ass town." Lafayette spoke up., "What do you think Sookie?," Bill turned to me, as he swung his right arm over my shoulder, as I stood beside him. "Up for a bit of fun?." "I think we all deserve some after what we've been through," I said to Bill who kissed me on the forehead lovingly. "Although I do think we should invite Eric and Pam," I said, causing a few eyebrows to be raised including Bill's. "Sook you must have lost your mind," Lafayette turned to Tara. They both chuckled at my suggestion. "I'm serious," I said again as Lafayette and Tara laughed harder. "Whether we want to admit it or not, Eric and Pam are a part of our community, and I just want to see him dance on the dance floor."

Boisterous laughter could be heard from Merlottes, after I gave my hilarious explanation. Without warning the front door slammed open, as a young white man that looked about my age slammed open the front door. Laughter from our small group abruptly came to an end upon encountering the unexpected surprise. The guy was gasping, as he pressed the knob on the front door thus locking us in, He backed away wildly bumping into chairs as,he lost his footing and fell backwards.. "Are you okay?," Bill approached the young man who didn't acknowledge him, but kept his eyes on the front door. The bar was silent now, as all eyes fell on the young man. He finally turned to Bill about to say something, when the front door was kicked in. The rest of us scrambled to our feet in surprise and anger, at the unexpected turn of events. "That's him," the young man finally spoke for the first time. "That's the guy who is after me." As the guy stepped inside Merlottes, immediately guns were drawn and cocked by Sam, Mario,Tara, and Lafayette.

Arlene squealed in fear, as she ran to hide in the kitchen. My right hand glowed, as I activated my fae powers. "Take another step and it will be your last," Sam warned. "Just so you fucking know all our guns are wooden bullets," Lafayette warned him as well. Bill bared his fangs, and growled menacingly, at the intruder. Upon seeing Bill, he backed out slowly, his expression a mixture of confusion and anger. "I'll be back," he said to the frightened young man, and disappeared at inhuman speed. We all let out a gasp of relief that we were holding. "Thank you," the young man said to all of us running his hands through his slick black hair. I turned to the young man, and immediately read his thoughts. 'I thought I was gonna die for sure.' "Of course you weren't going to die," I said cheerfully to the young man forgetting that he wouldn't understand that I read his thoughts. The young man stared at me oddly. I read his thoughts again. 'Thanks for the reassurance…' 'You're welcome' I said in my thoughts. The young man looked at me in alarm now.

"You can hear me?!. My thoughts!?."
