Chapter 1: Newton's third law
Newton's third law of physics: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Scene: Kuoh Academy, Student Council Room
Sitting at a desk in a beautifully furnished room, a girl with short midnight hair and violet eyes rubs at her temples in annoyance at what's being presented to her.
"Buchou, this is the fifth time in the last three weeks. We can't keep looking past this, no matter how badly Rias wants to bring him into the fold." Her vice president acts like a parent whose child won't stop putting their hand in the cookie jar.
If that child was a 5'7 male brunette with a mean streak a mile wide.
"I both know and agree with your thoughts, Tsubaki. But I promised Rias until the date of her family's agreement to sway him to our side. So until then, we just have to weather the storm. After that, if he doesn't join, we'll remove him from school grounds permanently." Sona Sitri, the student council president, sounds exhausted.
From the start of her high school debut, she had high hopes for what would come with her first year at the academy built by the Gremory family. Originally, it was a female-only school, with the only exception being staff, but as of her second year, the school was opened up to both genders, and only if they had the grades and funds to get past the admissions office.
However, this came with some... mixed reactions. From both the current attendees and the males that did get in. Some men believed that since they went to a school full of beautiful women, there would be free and easy lay available whenever they pleased. The women were fully confident that their safety and chastity were at stake. And unfortunately, their fears were not completely off the mark or unjustified.
Enter the group known only as 'The Perverted Trio'.
Their names were Matsuda, Motohama, and Issei.
These three did it all. They peeped at locker rooms, they vandalized school property for the sake of getting discreet access to an NSFW view, and they sometimes even went so far as to swipe some women's clothes from lockers. It's no understatement to say that they were easily the most hated group at Kuoh. By both men, women, and staff alike.
But throughout Christmas Break, something happened to one of the members.
Issei Hyoudou and his family disappeared.
When Issei didn't show up for a month after the break ended, the student council decided to pay a visit to his house to ask why he was absent for so long. What she and her peerage found was not a pretty sight. A broken doorknob, leading to a destroyed interior, with nary a picture upright. The police were called after the group finished their investigation and covered their tracks with magic. A week went by, with the police unable to find any trace of the Hyoudou family, and eventually had to call off the investigation. This didn't prevent Rias's peerage from being sent to search, but even they came up empty. She had hoped that her assumption that he had a Sacred Gear was correct, which is why she sent her peerage out to search. After Sona's first year had concluded, and the summer had passed, her second year brought an unprecedented change.
Issei returned.
He was not only alive, but he had a strange man who claimed guardianship over him. He had a glaring scar on his cheek, and a flask attached to his hip at all times. But that was only the tip of the iceberg for strange things revolving around him. For the life of her, she thought that nothing would ever be able to change who Issei was at a fundamental level. The boy was a pervert through and through, and no number of beatings from the kendo club could change that.
The Issei that stood before her in that room was decidedly not a pervert, or at least not an obvious one. The Issei in that room was curt and blunt to a fault, and that all she thought it would be. Maybe he and his parents had a big fight, making them send him off to a military camp while they decided he was a lost cause. That could explain the mess and different guardian. If that was the truth, then no matter how much she might pity him for the thoughts his parents held for him, she believed that this Issei was a step up from the pervert that brought terror to women across the campus.
Turns out she was more wrong than she could ever imagine.
The first incident happened within his first week of returning, where one of the women that he so grievously wronged decided to speak up. Eyewitnesses claimed that it was something on the level of biblical proportions, but the camera feed showed the truth.
"Why the hell did you come back Hyoudou? Your leaving was the best thing to ever happen to this school!" A blond girl stands in his path as Issei tries to make his exit toward his next class.
He doesn't respond, but gestures for her to move out of his way. She refused to do so.
When neither party move for the next minute, Issei eventually scoffs and just shoves her out of his way, ignoring the cries coming from the spectators of the scene.
As he walks down the hall, he can hear some angered footsteps coming from behind, followed by someone roughly grabbing his shoulder and spinning him in the opposite direction.
Facing Issei is an angered man, as well as a large number of onlookers surrounding them.
"The fuck's the matter with you Hyoudou?! You think you can just get away with shoving my girl like that?!" The angered teen gets right up in his face as he shouts. Teachers try and restore order while telling the two to break it up, but what comes next silences everyone.
*CRACK*
In less than three seconds, the teen that tried to scare Issei into apologizing had been laid out flat, with a puddle of his own blood leaking from his shattered nose.
Not a single person moves, but their eyes draw towards the one who has rendered the shouting teen unconscious. Issei just looks down at him in annoyance, and not at all like he didn't just turn that man's nose into a fountain.
Afterward, chaos broke out, with the on-site medics having a field day trying to repair the teen's nose. If left to human hands alone, then the damage dealt in that single punch would have disfigured his face beyond repair. Thankfully, they had the liberal use of magic to spare, so after some time, his nose returned to normal. But that didn't undo the damage done to his pride.
He never showed his face to Issei ever again, and later requested a class transfer out of fear.
When called to the office to ask why he did such a thing, Issei only chose to answer with "The bitch wouldn't move, and the jackass wanted to start something." Ignoring the reprimands from the principal, he waits for his terrifying guardian to show up. When he does show up and the situation is relayed to him, he steps outside to make a brief phone call, and when he comes back in, they sit in silence until the principal's personal phone rings.
"You should get that," is all that the scarred man says.
When the principal finally picks up, Sona has to keep her composure because, and if anyone tells you that she felt this way she'll deny it to her grave, but the scarred man before her scares the ever-loving shit out of her. But she takes some solace in the fact that she'll never have to deal with him again, because soon, Issei will certainly be expelled.
When the principal returns, he carries a grave face and softly says "You may leave now, Mr. Hyoudou. Please refrain from doing such a thing again." Sona can't stop herself from sputtering. When the pair leave, Sona demands to know why the boy wasn't expelled, but all he tells her is that he isn't allowed to, only infuriating her further.
That was the start of it all, and it certainly hasn't gotten any better since then. There have been plenty of people who've tried to start something with Issei, but every time, he shut them down without mercy. For the women, he'd tell them creatively to fuck off. As for the men, he was less than vocal. These actions have forged his reputation at Kuoh for being a merciless bastard that can get away with anything scott-free.
But Sona has a plan.
She managed to appeal to the school's board of directors that if Rias couldn't get him to change before a set date, then he would be expelled, regardless of the people that have allowed him to stay. That of course was all a front. It was simply a cover story to be circulated throughout the school so that everyone can hope that they will be rid of Issei soon. She discussed it with Rias, and the two agreed on the terms provided. If Rias can get Issei to join her peerage while also changing him into a student who actually deserved to be here, before her marriage contract to Riser Phenex had to be fulfilled, then she would not expel Issei.
Sona was a smart girl. She always got first in grades and test scores. She wouldn't make a bet that she had no chance of winning. Yes... soon she'll be free of that pain in the ass.
"Tsubaki, would you please go collect the rest of the student council? There are some things that we need to cover." Sona sends away Tsubaki, while she gathers her findings on a certain vigilante that's made a recent appearance in not only the media but in her town as well.
"Chainsaw Man..." She stays calm, but the thought of that kind of ally is enticing, especially to her
Scene Change, Hyoudou residence.
Strolling down the road toward his house, Issei Hyoudou could swear that he was being followed. All he can hear around him though are the flapping of wings and the voices of the locals. He doesn't bother them though, he has no reason to. Rather, he's got some important things to deal with and doesn't have the time to spare. Once he's reached his house, he throws the door open and tosses his bag on the table where his guardian Kishibe waits.
"So, whatcha got for me today?" No time for small talk. While he listens to his response, he throws off his school clothes and tosses on a simple white button-up, and starts to fit his tie on correctly.
"We've gotten word of a Devil causing trouble in the town over. The higher-ups want you to take care of it, and in return, they'll pay you the normal amount while continuing to cover your ass at school." His words are curt and stern, but Issei appreciates it all the same.
"Got it. On another note, how's Kobeni been?"
With a raised eyebrow, Kishibe tells him that she's doing fine and that he got her a stable and low-pressure office job. That satisfies him, and once Issei has the tie on, the pair step into the car that's parked in the road outside of his house and drive off.
On the way, Kishibe hands Issei some pocket money, saying that he has to pick up Nayuta from school and that it'll take him a while. He wants Issei to spend some time to himself after the jobs are done.
Issei turns on the radio after taking the pocket money, and the two descend into silence. When they reach the town that's said to have a Devil that requires Issei to deal with, Kishibe drops him off on a corner, waves goodbye, and drives off. All alone now, Issei decides to just stroll around in search of the Devil that he was brought here for.
(1 hour later)
Bored. That's the simplest way to put what he's feeling. He's been in this town for a whole hour and has nothing to show for it. He's just sitting in a cafe watching the local news in hopes that it'll have the solution to his search. And it doesn't help that that bird outside the window has quite literally not moved since perching on a tree outside his window. It hasn't even twitched, and he's a hundred percent certain that this is the thing that's been following him.
He scoffs. That's a new level of dumb he achieved. The red-haired monster that haunts him to this day would definitely call him trash, if not worse. Shaking his head to rid himself of those thoughts, he finishes off his coffee and pays his bill. When he steps out the door, a familiar sound draws his attention.
Screaming.
Without a second of thought, he sprints off toward the noise, but upon drawing closer, he slinks to the back alleys to stay out of sight. It wouldn't do good for him to be found out so soon. When he peeks his head out from around the corner, he lays his eyes on one of his targets.
A crowd of charred bodies lines the street from both directions that Issei looks. As much as he hates it, their deaths weren't in complete vain. He can at least follow the trail toward his target.
Leaning back into the alley, Issei glances around to see if there are any eyes on him. Nothing. Not even that bird.
Well, no time like the present.
Reaching into his shirt, Issei grabs at the familiar cord connected to a heart that doesn't belong to him. And with a hard tug, he recalls briefly how he got to this point in his life.
(Ten months ago)
*bangbangbang*
A disgruntled young man answers the thumping call on his door. The moonlight that shines in reveals the sight of a boy that's the definition of 'in a shit position.' For starters, he only has a single eye, as well as him missing a shirt, which in turn reveals a crudely stitched mark above where his kidney should be. The man standing before Issei clearly doesn't care about the conditions that the boy is living in, as he grunts out that he needs to be ready in two minutes to deal with a job.
Softly nodding, he closes the door and turns back to the other figure in the tiny shed.
"Pochita. Wake up, we have a job."
Light rustling in the area where Issei was sleeping before heralds the arrival of a strange canine. For the most part, it seems like a perfectly normal dog, as long as you ignore the chainsaw that's jutted out of its forehead, along with the ripcord being positioned as a tail. Pochita treads over towards Issei, dragging the only coat he has to wear to his only friend. Once Issei slips into the coat, he pets and picks Pochita up, heading outside to meet with his enslavers.
That's all he really is to them. Free labor since his parents were dumbasses on top of being shit guardians. As long as he can remember, he's never grown up in a happy home. Hell, that's the reason he wanted a stupid harem. Maybe he'd finally get to feel love for once.
Oh well, no point reminiscing now. At least he has Pochita.
That brings a smile to his face, as even now, he can remember when he first met his only friend.
It was when he was standing in front of his parent's graves. It was raining out and he didn't have an umbrella. The least it did was cover his tears. The men who had them killed were pissed that their deaths amounted to nothing.
"We barely made any yen off harvesting their organs. Tch..."
"HEY, KID! I don't care how the hell you do it, have 700,000 yen ready by tomorrow or we'll see if your guts sell for more than your parents did." With that, they drive off, leaving Issei to realize that this is his last day alive.
Strangely, that doesn't infuriate him. He feels the same way about his parent's deaths, just... blank. He can say without question that there was no lost love between them, but to condemn him to death as well is just too much evidence pointing to the fact that they fucking hated him.
With a glance to the sky, Issei considers what to do with his last day alive. Maybe he could hire a prostitute and see what it feels like to be intimate. Maybe he could go buy a gun and just end it on his own terms.
Before he can think about his final wishes any further, a noise interrupts his thoughts, and even through the weather, he can tell it's not the rain. Turning towards the tree making the noise, he waits, and eventually, something steps out from behind. A little ball of orange with a very dangerous appendage attached to its head.
"A... Devil..."
It growls and revs its chainsaw in a threatening gesture, but it can't even scratch the apathy surrounding Issei's heart. He glances at his feet and just sits down. He stares the Devil in the eyes and asks for a favor.
"If you're going to kill me, then just do it already. This is my last day alive anyways." Squeezing his eyes shut, he waits for the sound of a chainsaw to get closer, but it never comes. Opening his eyes once more, he can see that the devil has dropped to its side, heaving with labored and wet breaths. The holes in its body are indicative of its fate as well.
"You're... going to die too?"
Taking a beat to consider what he just said, his mind begins to connect the dots.
If he's going to die, then why should he care that a Devil of all things is going to die as well?
Would that mean he still has room in his heart to care?
Does that mean...
...he doesn't really want to die?
Issei's breathing becomes erratic. But in his mental breakdown, a new resolve has come forth.
"BITE ME!" He shouts!
"I heard that if a Devil drinks blood, it'll heal its injuries."
"If you don't wanna die, then BITE ME!" Issei's words rouse the last bits of strength in the little chainsaw dog.
With a meaty chomp, the dog bites into his exposed arm and chugs the blood that flows out.
"My blood doesn't come for free though! This is a contract!" Pochita's eyes train on Issei.
"I don't wanna die either, so help me, and I'll help you." Gently caressing the docile Devil, Issei can feel the slightest bits of hope returning.
The next day, when the yakuza came with every intention to kill and dissect the boy, they instead find themselves surprised at what's being presented before them.
A dead Devil laying at the feet of Issei and a Chainsaw Devil, blood coating the pair in numerous spots.
"Sir, please hire me as a Devil Hunter." Is all that Issei says.
They accepted, and Issei became a freelance Devil Hunter in the impossible hopes of paying back his parent's debt. And now back to the night when Issei's life took a change that he'd never have seen coming.
Driving to the location that is said to hold his next target, Issei struggles to stay awake. The car cushions are just... so... so... comfy.
*Skrrr*
The car coming to a sudden and complete halt slams Issei awake and into action mode. The yakuza get out, and he follows.
Wonder what kinda Devil it'll be this time.
Wonder if he'll die this time.
The yakuza stop in front of him but keep their backs to him. An icy sensation coats his spine as their words flow. However, he doesn't have time to worry about them right now, because something else has come up.
And by up, I mean a machete blade slicing upwards from the lower end of his lungs toward his esophagus, with Issei barely able to rip the blade out of him before it reached that point. But he can tell that he was too late, as the liquid in his lungs becomes more pronounced as the seconds tick by.
Ah shit, the machete got Pochita as well. Shit, SHIT!
Well, if he's really going to die here, then he should try and keep the only thing important in his life alive. The zombie devil sends its hoards of undead yakuza after him, as if the machete through the chest wouldn't have been the killing blow anyway.
Limping aggressively toward the exit he came from, Issei spares a glance over his shoulder to see how many zombies are behind him and instantly regrets his decision. The classes at Kuoh were smaller than the fucking hoard behind him.
By the time he can stumble a few more feet after looking back, a zombie has reached him and shoved him down. Before he can even try and escape, the hoard catches up entirely, with each carrying a number of sharp items.
The last moments of his life are spent in horrible agony as the zombies take extreme care to stab the sharp things in every exposed piece of skin while twisting them for increased pain output.
By the time the light finally leaves his eyes, his body had been severed in several different places, and without a doubt, Issei Hyoudou has died. The zombies just chuck the pieces into a dumpster deeper into the warehouse.
Now, for a man like Issei, luck is bullshit. Never once in his life has he been able to rely on it for anything, with nothing being more obvious than the span of his entire existence. But for one brief moment, Lady Luck finally took pity on him. Issei's severed head drools blood, and that drop of blood sinks lower and lower until finally reaching Pochita's mouth.
For a moment, nothing happens, But Pochita's mouth begins to lap up the blood, and after that, his eye strains open.
Issei didn't know what to think.
He was dead. No two ways about it.
So why did his afterlife have to be contained to a single dumpster?
At least he isn't alone.
Pochita sits on his chest, wearing his trademark smile while yapping happily.
"Pochita..."
"woof!"
He remembers back to a promise that he asked Pochita to follow.
"Did you take my body? Like I said?"
Pochita stares at him, unblinkingly and still.
"Just so you know, I've always loved listening to you talk about your dreams, Issei."
Issei's mind freezes, but Pochita's talking does not.
"Here's a new contract. I'll give you my heart."
*thump* *thump*
"And in exchange, show me your dreams. That's all I ask."
Buried beneath trash, a pair of eyes open.
"POCHITA!" Issei shoots out of the dumpster.
Alive, and unharmed.
His shout garners the attention of the Zombie Devil and its acolytes. His heavy breathing reminds him of his new contract. He looks down, and sees Pochita's ripcord fixed above his heart.
"Hmm? What's going on? Are you seriously still alive after being cut to ribbons. How repulsive..." The zombie devil speaks as if it's very existence isn't disgusting.
"Go ahead and eat him guys! Let's see him come back from being devoured." The horde that chopped him up earlier begins to sprint with as much speed as their broken bodies will allow.
To Issei, the world around him is going in slow motion. Frankly, he doesn't care about the Devil's words. All he can think about is why this happened.
"These guys already had so much going for them. Why did they want even more?"
"Am I the same?"
"Pochita made me truly happy for the first time in a long while, and that should have been enough."
"But I kept on dreaming about having a better life."
"I guess... we all fantasize about getting an upgrade."
"Can't say I blame you for that then..."
"And I won't blame you..." The horde is a mere two yards away now.
"But... if you're gonna get in our way..."
Issei's hand reaches for Pochita's tail hanging from his chest.
"THEN YOU CAN ALL DIE!"
*BDROOOM*
(Present time)
*BDROOOM*
In the silence of the alley, along with the faint ambient sounds of the outside world, the motor of a chainsaw being pulled is all the more present.
As the whirring noise becomes more present, Issei's forehead bursts open, with a massive chainsaw thrusting into the open. His forearms sprout chainsaws as well, and while those materialize, his head had begun mutating into the base motor area where the chainsaw gets its power from, eventually resulting in a red and black mish-mash of a head with glowing yellow orbs to pass for eyes.
After ten seconds pass, no longer is it Issei Hyoudou in the alleyway.
Now standing in the alley is Chainsaw Man.
To be continued in chapter 2: Newton's third law Pt. 2
A.N: Hello again, it is I, the writing goblin who has played connect the dots in his brain and made this. I'm going to be completely honest. I wrote this in five hours, after thinking on it for 30 minutes. And I'm damn proud of what I've come up with. So, there's a few things I'd like to cover, so I'll start with Devils. Devils born from fear are going to exist at the same time as DxD's devils, and they're going to be immune to holy energy and such. Devils born from fear are going to give DxD devils a bad name, if that makes sense. Denji has been replaced with Issei, and their resolve when they became chainsaw man at first is going to be different, because in my story, the events of part 1 will have only taken about ten months. Issei disappeared over Christmas break of his first year, was a yakuza devil hunter for two months because his parents were scum in this story, the events of part 1 took five months, and the last month was spend re-acclimating to normalcy. Also, Issei's going to be much more of a hardass. And most importantly, Ddraig being included is now up in the air. I'm not sure what to do with him. No two ways about it. My first idea was to remove him entirely, but plenty of people have said that it's a bad idea if I want to keep Issei up to power scaling. So that's up in the air at the moment. I hope you're looking forward to the next chapter.
Please Review :)
