Hey guys. Sorry this is taking so long. I've been extremely busy lately and have found the joys of Suite Life Fanfiction. It's intoxicating.
Any-who, keep your eyes on my other stories, especially Breaking Down the Bars, What He Won't Say, Edge of Insanity, and Passing the Torch (for you loyal BTR followers), and if you've checked out my other stuff, Delaying the Inevitable and be on the lookout for a new one for Percy Jackson. I get to go see the movie for that woohoo!
Okay so enjoy chapter three of The Life You Live is Precious
…
Kendall woke in the corner of Logan's room, scratchy hospital blanket hastily thrown over him to keep out the bite of the air conditioner pumping foul smelling air into the room. He rubbed his eyes groggily and looked around. James was nowhere to be seen but Logan was sitting up, studying him. The blonde knew the brain behind those eyes was trying to analyze the current situation.
"Hey," the blonde croaked, massaging his throat to rid it of that dreadful sleepy sound. The ravenette smiled at the blonde, just the trace of one really. He took a sip from the cup he held clutched close to his chest. He did look a lot better than what he did when he was first brought to the hospital. He did look a little uncomfortable, and that set off little alarms in the blonde's head. "You feel okay?" He shrugged off the blanket and stood on shaky legs. The ravenette smiled and waved his hand in a dismissive way.
"Perfectly fine," he responded, and even his voice sounded stronger. "Hospitals just…creep me out a little, that's all." Now the blonde saw his hand shaking a bit, and he instantly felt bad. Without thinking, he climbed into the bed with Logan and wrapped his arms around him. The ravenette was shocked. "What about James?" he asked, mostly to get the blonde talking to keep his mind off of the hand massaging his back gently.
"What about him?" the blonde asked dreamily. In all truthfulness he wasn't even thinking about James right now. The only person he could think of was Logan. "He won't mind. I know he feels bad for you too." Logan seemed unconvinced, but said nothing further. In fact, he leaned his head on the blonde's shoulder and let out a little sigh. It was nice and peaceful in the room right now.
"Okay Logan, I got….oh sleeping beauty is up," he said, smiling at Kendall. "Alright Logan, I got you some soup with a straw…they won't let you have a spoon…and some apple juice. Enjoy." He set a little tray on Logan's lap, and the ravenette tucked hungrily into the soup and juice. Kendall watched him eat in fascination. Logan ate like he hadn't eaten properly in weeks. And after seeing his dad, he probably hadn't. "Kendall?" Kendall blinked and looked at James. The annoyed look showed it wasn't the first time he'd said the blonde's name. "You going to give him some space to eat?" Blushing, he climbed out of the bed.
"Yes…yes of course," he said, smoothing his shirt and standing as close to the bed as he could. "James sweetie, could you please go get me something to drink?" he asked, throwing in a kiss for good effect. Smiling and kissing the blonde, the brunette left. Logan made a face at their PDA and turned away. He couldn't explain why, but seeing that made him feel sad. He knew he had no shot with the blonde, but it still hurt. Kendall turned to look at him, and frowned when he saw he wasn't looking at him. "Logie, it's okay…"
"Don't call me that!" Logan snapped. The tray fell off his lap and clattered to the floor. Kendall stepped back like he'd been slapped. Never before had someone snapped at him in such a way. Logan saw the flinch and instantly felt bad. He decided and explanation was in order. "My mom called me that," he said quietly. "That was her nickname for me; she started calling me it when I was only two years old. She's…she's gone now. She left her little Logie when he needed her the most…" Logan swallowed hard, willing his shoulders to stop shaking. The blonde now had tears in his eyes. He climbed in with the ravenette and wrapped his arms around him once again. The ravenette pulled away. "I…I shouldn't have told you that," he said.
"No, no," the blonde hastily replied, crushing the ravenette to him. "I'm…I'm glad you did Logan. I want to help you. The life you live is precious after all. You shouldn't think no one cares about you. I do. James does. You're not in it alone." The blonde felt the front of his shirt getting wet by the ravenette's silent tears, but he didn't mind. He needed to reassure him that he wasn't alone in this fight anymore. "Maybe my mom could take you in," he whispered into the ravenette's ear, gently nipping the earlobe in the process. Logan stiffened, and the blonde quickly pulled back. "Sorry," he mumbled. Logan was smart; he knew it was most likely an involuntary reflex, probably caused by many hushed conversation with James.
"It's okay," he said, shooting the blonde a reassuring smile. "Just an accident, that's all." Kendall shifted his weight uncomfortably. Truth be told, it was no accident. He knew it wasn't something he involuntarily did when he whispered in someone's ear. He was in control and was well aware of what he was doing; what forbidden ground he was beginning to tread on. But playing it off as an accident was just as well.
"Yeah, and accident," he mumbled. Just then, James returned with a bottle of water. The blonde accepted it, and a kiss, from the brunette. Logan promptly turned away, and the blonde felt bad. He pulled James close. "No PDAs in front of him, okay?" he whispered, kissing his jawline as the brunette nodded. Kendall smiled. "Thank you sweetie," he said, then turned to Logan.
"Let's see how long they're going to keep you in this hellhole."
…
"Another five fucking days?" Kendall asked James in disbelief. "I hope they know he won't be able to pay for today, much less five more fucking days of this." They were out in the hall, so Logan couldn't hear any of this. Kendall began to pace, wringing his hands together. "He feels fine, and he seems stable enough. Do they really need him for Five. Fucking. Days!" Kendall began to feel a little dizzy from circling so much, and he swayed on his feet.
"Woah," James exclaimed, holding him up by his waist. "Don't run yourself ragged babe. Your no use to Logan that way. Take a breather." He helped the blonde settle into the nearest chair, which the blonde was thankful for.
"I don't understand," the blonde murmured. "I don't understand why they need to keep him that long." The brunette rubbed circles onto his back.
"Probably so he can go through a few days of some kind of therapy," the brunette explained. "He does have some emotional problems. They're probably going to try and help him before they let him out. Also, I've been meaning to talk to you." Kendall looked at his boyfriend sharply. That didn't sound good, not at all. "You seem to have some…feelings for Logan. Some that go farther than…than a normal friend's would. I…I'm going to let you go." The blonde gasped. "But," the brunette continued. "I'm doing it for your own good. I don't want to hold you back if your true feeling lie elsewhere. It's been great Kendall." James gently kissed his forehead. "But…I think your true passion is Logan. Not just helping him through this but being his support and love as well. If you decide to do that, then I'm happy for you and wish you both the best of luck. If you decide you still want me, I'm always a phone call away. And I'm ready to help keep Logan on his feet. Goodbye Kendall. Go see Logan." Without another word, James turned on his heels and walked briskly away. Stunned, Kendall staggered into Logan's room.
"What's wrong?" the ravenette asked, immediately picking up on Kendall's mood. Barely a day together and the broken boy in front of him could already sense when he was in distress. Maybe they were meant to be together after all.
"James and I broke it off," he said. Logan's eyes went wide, but the blonde just brushed it off. "It's no biggie. We just needed some time to…work through some feelings. Oh, they need you here for five more days." Logan gave the blonde a pained look. "It doesn't matter how long they keep you here Logan. I'll stay here with you until they deem you well enough to leave. Just remember, the life you live is precious, and every minute is worth fighting for. And even if your dad is a bastard father and your mom is looking down on you right now, there are people that still care about you and you shouldn't hate your life so much you'd try to end it before it's time." Logan's shoulders shook.
"Ken…Kendall," he whimpered. Kendall crushed him to his chest again. He was determined to help the ravenette, no matter what happened. Every life was worth saving.
