CHAPTER 3
"Hey mum good morn-" Callie stopped because that wasn't her mother, her mother was at least 30 years older.
"Hi Callie! How are you?" Arizona said smiling brightly.
Callie was a little shocked to see her again so soon: "Hi… I'm fine thanks." Arizona just kept smiling and looking at her.
"Ugh, sorry I've got such terrible manners, how are you?"
"I'm good, thank you for asking." Arizona said giggling.
"So, you're here…You're already moving in here?" Callie asked.
"Oh, no. Your mother suggested that I saw your house, since I'll be living here from now on. But they just dropped me and went away, she said you'd be awake any minutes, so I was kinda waiting for you."
"Oh right" Callie tilted her head to the right: "Uuhm, is that… my shirt?"
"What…? Uh! This. Yes, I got mine dirty earlier and Lucia gave me one of yours… Do you mind?"
Callie hadn't heard much as she was admiring how good she looked with her shirt, while mentally begging for her to button up some more since she didn't want to look like a dork and stare at her the whole time, which was exactly what she was doing now.
Ok, stop staring at her.
Her eyes wondered inevitablyon her chest. Jeez, stop it! She's my sister, for God's gorgeous, hot girl is my…sister. Those lips, and eyes, and I bet she smells wonderfully. Oh and, what about that bu... Jesus! Would you shut up?Oh God, she's staring back at me. Well done Callie, you freaked her out. What do I do?
She tried to speak, but what came out was a long: "Ermmmmm". Callie cleared her throat: "So…" she said with a sigh.
"So…" repeated Arizona who was giving her a look of perplexity mixed with fun. "Are you okay?" She said, beginning to worry.
"Oh… yes. Sorry, I was spacing out…" Callie said, blushing violently. "What were we saying?"
"I asked you if you mind me wearing your shirt… Do you?"
"Oh not at all" she said forcing a smile. "I mean, it's your house too now, as far as I'm concerned you could have gone around naked and…" Callie stopped, realizing what she had just said. "No, I didn't mean it that way…" Arizona tried to restrain herself from laughing, but when she saw the blush on Callie's face she couldn't hold it anymore and a few loud giggles escaped her mouth. Callie's face dropped as she began looking desperately for a place to dig her head in.
"I'm sorry, it's just… You had put on such a funny face. Don't worry, it's fine" Arizona said still giggling.
Callie wasn't really sure but tried to put the shame apart and not to act like a weirdo: "Great. Are you thirsty? Would you like some milk?" and she went to the fridge. She was wearing shorts and a white tank that emphasysed every curve she had. Arizona followed her with her eyes, realizing how few Callie was wearing.
"So, would you like some?" Arizona hurried to look away, and then answered to Callie: "Sure, I'd love some, thank you."
"Did she just check me out?" Callie thought, grinning. She then closed the fridge and took two cups to fill.
"Here" she said handing Arizona her cup.
"Thanks" she said smiling.
"And where's my mother? Your father?" Callie asked, taking some bread to toast.
"Uuhm… They had something to do… somewhere." Arizona said half laughing.
Callie laughed too: "Have you had breakfast yet?"
"No, I haven't actually, but I can manage it myself, don't worry."
"It's fine. Is French toast ok?"
"Yeah, that's okay" said Arizona smiling.
They had breakfast together, chatting animatedly and getting to know each other better. "And where's my room?"
" I think it'll be the one next to mine, upstairs, it's very big and spacious andfull of light" Callie said with a hint of a smile.
"Yay!"
Callie chuckled: "Did you just say yay?"
"Yes, I did. Get used to it, it's almost like a trademark of mine" Arizona said putting on a straight face. Callie, though, was trying to hold back her laughter, and that serious face of her didn't help matters: "Ok then –yay- Actually I was wondering…" Callie pondered her words: "I mean… what-what did my mother tell you…?"
Arizona was a little confused: "Uuuhm about today? I told you, she-"
"No…" Callie interrupted her. " I mean, about me… I know they told you about a month ago, so… What did she tell you about me? " she concluded blushing.
"Oh… Oh!" Arizona's smile lighted up with realization: "Let's see, she praised your many qualities and-" "Oh God" Callie covered her face with her hands. Arizona laughed: "She told me about your smartness and beauty, but I didn't think that you were actually so…" she stopped, realizing it'd be wiser not to finish the sentence.
"Ahem" she shifted uncomfortably on the chair and almost literally buried her face into the cup she was holding.
Callie, though, had understood what she'd been about to say and felt like teasing her a little: "So?" she said flirtatiously.
Arizona almost choked (herself) with the milk and looked at Callie in shock: "Uhmm.." Callie raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. After a few moments she said: "S-so… long-haired. I mean, she told me about your long hair, but –wow- it's really…long" Arizona stuttered with a sigh.
Callie still had her eyebrow raised upand now she was smirking: "Long-haired".
"Yes, very." Arizona lied, nodding.
"Well, from what I see, your hair is long…too." Callie wore a "If you know what I mean" expression, hoping Arizona would catch the double meaning, which she did, according to the blush on her cheeks.
Arizona's flushed face as she was trying to look at anything but Callie was too cute for words, and Callie knew this game she was playing was dangerous, but they were only at the start and knowing each other ,while later on they would be sisters and wouldn't be allowed to feel anything for the other that wasn't strictly platonic, and probably they wouldn't want to anyway. So she thought that a little teasing fun while she could wouldn't harm anyone.
"What does –Callie- stand for?" Arizona said in a bad-masquered attempt to change the subject.
Callie was surprised by the question: "Oh that's…I usually don't tell anyone, I hate it."
"Oh c'mon, please" said Arizona pouting.
"No really, only my father calls me that" Callie said half seriously.
"It can't be that bad…can it?" she asked.
"Well, I guess it depends from one's point of view, right? But my parents always tell this story: the first time they called me by my complete name when I was like, two days old, I suddendly started crying until I became red like a pepper. Of course there must have been some good reason, but I like to take that as a sign. Even now that I'm eighteen I prefer much more being called Callie."
"It just means more fun for me while trying to find out! I have a thing for full names" Arizona stated happily.
"We will see about that…" Callie said amused, before continuing: "You have any plans for tonight?"
"No actually, you?" she answered.
"I'm going out with my friends, we're probably gonna go dancing, would you like to come?"
"Sure! Would it be ok if my friend Teddy came along? I think she'd like it." said Arizona excited.
"Of course it's ok" Callie answered.
It amazed them that, exception made for those awkward moments when of them would just stare at the other, there was a relaxing atmosphere that put both at ease, despite the short amount of time they had known each other. Was that related to the whole sister thing? Or was it something completely different from parenthood feelings?
"Don't get your hopes up, this isn't something you can do" Arizona spoke mentally to herself.
"Girls?" someone shouted from the doorway. They heard footsteps until their parents showed up in the kitchen: "Here you are!" said John.
"Hey" Callie and Arizona said simultaneously.
"Arizona we should hurry and go, you know we have to say hi to uncle Jerry before he leaves"
"Right, let's go" Arizona got up and then turned to Callie: "Thanks for this morning" she said with a dimpled smile.
"It was a pleasure. So I'll see you tonight? How about 9? I'll pick you up." Callie said smiling back.
"That sounds great, see you tonight then." After hugging Lucia goodbye she left.
Outside the house Arizona climbed into the car and sat comfortably while her father began to speak : "So, are you two together tonight?"
Arizona blushed slightly for some reason, maybe she just reacted to the word "together".
"Yeah, we're going dancing with her friends and I will ask Teddy to tag along."
"That's great" John said cheerfully. "I'm happy you're bounding so fast"
"Yeah, we're bounding…" Arizona said, and suddendly felt very nervous for the night she realized she couldn't wait for.
