Chapter Two Without You
It had been weeks since Kagome had laid eyes on Sesshomaru , all she could think of, was his form disappearing from her sight as he headed far away to a place unknown. She could still see the pain in his eyes, as he thanked her for making the simple effort to saving the young girls life.
Things had changed dramatically, Sango and Miroku had planned to not wait much longer, and were now getting themselves ready for a simple marriage in the village performed by Keade.
Shippou had asked Inuyasha to teach him how to fight, and to gain his strength, and Inuyasha gladly excepted. Maybe most of it as because he just wanted to boast to someone.
Kagome had stayed with Inuyasha, and had decided that they all needed a break from collecting the jewels shards, even if meant Naraku getting them first. Kagome had no will to fight, neither did Miroku and Sango. Inuyasha would go out time to time looking to see If he could find any leads. There were none.
Kagome had travelled back to her time multiple times in the few weeks that passed. Her mother was glad to know she, Inuyasha and friends were safe and alright, and helped console Kagome on the night terriers about saving Rin.
Kagome had grown tired over time, always needing to sleep, she would rarely get any sleep. When she did she was haunted by nightmares, the day that she watched Naraku kill Rin, and she was not able to save her.
Some nights Kagome would wake up screaming, and crying, and Inuyasha would hold her tight, letting her know it was okay, and she did everything she could. Kagome kept reliving the entire night, and the pain and sorrow in one persons eyes when he realized that Rin was dead.
" Kagome have you eaten today?" Inuyasha had been gentle patient and kind with Kagome, and she loved him for it. She shook her head and he smiled, and went of in search for more rabbits.
Miroku and Sango and taken to walking around the village, talking about wedding plans and mostly their dear friend Kagome.
" Do you think that Kagome will ever be alright." Sango asked her almost husband. Miroku smiled at his soon to be wife, and nodded.
" I think eventually she will be. Inuyasha has told me about her night terrors, and how she screams in the middle of the night. What happened to Rin was really terrible, and if think it hit Kagome more then we realize. I wonder how Lord Sesshomaru is taking it." Sango looked at Miroku worried, and yet. She also wondered how Sesshomaru was taking it.
The retune was all the same. They would wake up, Kagome would help cook, and then talk to Miroku, and Sango. They would all have breakfast together, and then go there separate ways for half the day. Sango and Miroku worked on their wedding plans, and Kagome and Inuyasha working to help Keade with herbs. and then sleep. They would all join up, Shippou included for a nice evening meal, and then talk and converse about all sorts of things. Kagome would go to sleep in Keades hut. Inuyasha watching close by. A few hours into her sleep, she would have her night terrors, and before she knew it, she would be awake and crying in Inuyasha arms, until once again she was asleep.
" Kagome isn't getting any better you know, I am starting to really worry that she won't be able to get out of this stupor. " Inuyasha voiced his concern to his two best friends.
" I have been thinking about that too, and i think maybe we should postpone the wedding until Kagome is better." Miroku looked at Sango. He wash shocked, but the again wasn't, after all she was her best friend, and worries about her all day everyday.
" I was also thinking bout searching for the jewel shards again. Maybe this is the time for her to take her mind off of things." Miroku nodded, and Inuyasha smiled.
" You think it might work?" They smiled and shrugged there shoulders.
" We got to try something Inuyasha. "
The next day everyone packed a bag, and headed out towards the west, hoping that getting back into the journey would help Kagome in her recovery. They had only travelled for a few hours, when Inuyasha started to get impatient, and rather upset. Kagome had sensed a sacred jewel coming fast. All of the group knew that moment who it was.
A whirlwind per throughout the plains of the country side, and landed to a complete stop, only inches away from Kagome. Koga was grabbing Kagome's hand in an effort to comfort her, and show his loyalty. Kagome knew this wasn't going to be a pleasant reunion.
"Kagome, and how is my women?" he asked not caring he had just stepped on Inuyasha shoulders. Kagome looked almost carefully at Koga, and smiled a half smile. Koga looked worried, Kagome did not look herself.
"I'm not your women Koga, i've told you that. But it's nice to see you! What brings you our way?" she asked him carefully and sweetly.
Koga smiled at her knowing that something was wrong but didn't want to ask at the this moment.
"Smelled your scent, i haven't seen ou for a while thought i would come visit, and find out if the mutt id treating you okay!" Kagome winched hearing Koga calling inuyasha a mutt.
"Who you calling a mutt?" Inuyasha growled at him, and pushed his way in front of Kagome. "Listen hear your mangy wolf. Kagome is fine, but she in't in any mood to be spending any time with you." Kagome pulled away and walked towards Sango and Miroku. They had stayed extremely quiet, and not made any movements to jump in. Inuyasha had been extremely protective of Kagome as of late. especially since her condition.
"Listen Koga, Kagome went through something dramatic, and isn't quite herself, and i know you care former so please just let her be." Everyone looked at Inuyasha in shocked, question if what had come out of his mouth was really what was said. And if so, why had he used such a gentle tone. They knew he was worried about Kagome and wanted to take care of Kagome, but this was a totally different kind of inuyasha.
"I see, well you make sure you take care of her. If not i'll do it for you. Kagome get well my women, and i will see you soon." and with that he was gone. And all that was left was a surprised and shocked Kagome, Miroku, and Sango. Kagome smiled and began to laugh a little. Everyone looked at her as if she was mad.
"Inuyasha i think you figured how to get rid of Koga, and all along it was what as easy as being nice to him. And you thought brute strength would have worked." Everyone began to laugh, all except , Inuyasha Miroku, Sango, Shippou, and Kirara all moved towards the west, on to a new adventure, to see if they coould fined more sacred jewels.
Sesshomaru had done nothing but look after his lands and worry about all the other demons in his area. He hadn't muttered many word to Jaken, especially about Rin. Jaken had missed Rin dearly, and although he had hated the young human girl, he now realized how precious she really was to him.
Sesshomaru had ponder on the young Miko, and how she was faring especially after the ordeal. He knew she was safe, and knew that was alive, the only thing he was not to sure was what had happened to her after. It had many weeks since he saw his half brother and his pack. And he wondered if he should show his face to them once more.
It wasn't long before he could smell his half breed brother and the young miko's scent, and he knew they were on there way towards him, even if they didn't know it yet.
Sesshomaru had this weird urge to know if Kagome was alright, last time he talked to her she seemed like she was alright, and he hadn't bothered checking up on her, for she wasn't his responsibility.
Inuyasha had picked up the scent of his half brother, and he knew that Sesshoamru would come and ask questions, e since he had told Inuyasha to take care of Kagome. Inuyasha walked towards the area his half brother had now stopped, knowing that running into Sesshoamru would be inevitable. He quickly released that Kagome may not want to see Sesshomaru again or a while especially since, it could bring back harmful memories of Rin. Vise versa.
Kagome watched as inuyasha back tensed and he become distant, and cold all of a sudden, not really talking to anyone in the group. Kagome then sensed a powerful demon, and now shards, she then realized it was indeed Sesshoamru's aura. She know at that moment that he was close, and she would see the man she so desperately wanted to help. The young ward that had lost her life.
It took nearly moments before haws in front of her, before she was yet again looking into the face that showed no emotions, only the ones his eyes carried. He showed how much hurt, and pain was in his eyes that night, and now that she saw him again, his hurt was evident in his eyes still. Kagome looked down at her feet, and realized that she couldn't look at him, if she did it would give it away, that she had been doing badly. the black circles under her eyes would show how truly terrible these last few weeks were for he.
"Sesshomaru!" Inuyasha said with almost a kindness in his voice. This took Sesshoamru aback a little since he wasn't expecting the softness his half brother gave him.
"Inuyasha!" was all he said, and they just looked at one another. Wasn't until Sesshomaru re directed his eyes to the Miko that he spoke again.
"What brings you in this direction?" the question was simple, yet the whole idea Sesshoamru caring was confusing. Miroku walked up in front of Kagome to hide her from Seshomaru's eyes. He placed a hand on Inuyasha shoulder, and got him to move out of his way, and allow miroku to talk to the Lord.
"Lord Sesshoamru, we were just passing through, we are looking for the sacred jewel shards, and we haven't looked for them in this direction for a long time." Kagome walked towards Sango and Kirara, and kept extremely quiet, allow Miroku to be the one to say what he needed.
Sesshomaru believe the Monk; however he knew the Miko well enough to know in any normal circumstances she would be telling him what was going on. Inuyasha wouldn't be so calm and collected, and the Monk just like every other time would stay behind Kagome and Inuyasha and be quiet, allowing the young onna to speak her mind. Something didn't seem right. What was wrong about Miko.
"Hn." was all he answered, and with that he moved passed Monk towards Kagome. He wanted to know what was wrong with her? Inuyasha watched as his brother came closer to him Kagome, and Sango. He wasn't sure what Sesshomaru game was at, but he wouldn't let his half brother near Kagome.
"Stay away Sesshomaru!" Inuyasha called out in a angry tone.
"Little brother! This doesn't concern you!" and with that he stopped by Kagome's side. Kagome looked up at him, knowing that when she did it would give everything away to the ice lord.
"I said! Get away from her you bastard!" Inuyasha pulled out tetsuaiga, and aimed at Sesshoamru. Sesshomaru didn't flinch he just looked at Kagome. Now he knew why was wrong, she looked weak, exhausted, and like someone had beaten her mentally and emotionally.
"Inuyasha!" Sesshomaru's voice was deep and cold. "Leave me! I have something i have to talk to the Miko about, and it does not concern you!" inuyasha wasn't having it, he would let his bastard of a half brother have her. it wasn't until Miroku put his hand on Inuyasha shoulder that Inuyasha finally decided to do what his brother asked.
"We won't be long Sesshomaru!" he then looked at Kagome. "Yell if you need me, i'll hear you!" she nodded, and watched her pack walk away. She looked up onwards Sesshomaru and noted that his eyes were cold, they were emotionless, yet they held one thing she had never seen before. Hope.
"Tell me Miko! What has happened to you in the last few weeks?" Kagome was taken back by his question, yet she knew why he had asked. Kagome sad down on the moss, and grass. Pulling her legs to her chest she let out a small sigh. Sesshomaru awaited her response and saw how she reacted, he was more curious then ever now.
"Nothing has happened so to speak, however i cannot sleep, and i barely eat. Rin's death it plays in my mind over, and over again. I remember watching how her body fell to the ground, how terrible Naraku's laugh was, and how totally broken you looked. It breaks me inside every time i think about it." Sesshomaru was shocked to know that his wards death would bring such pain to her. He knew that the Miko was a caring individual, she had tried to save Rin, however he did not think the effects would cause her trouble. Only himself.
"Sesshoamru, i have night terrors, i wake up screaming. I'm so sorry i couldn't save her." she sobbed out, and before he knew what he was doing he pulled her up from her feet and into his chest.
He didn't know why he did it, he wasn't sure what came over him. He loved watching others suffer, and he was never fazed by women crying. Watching Kagome cry, watching her show her weakness, and knowing that all of it was caused because of Rin's death, he knew he had to comfort her. Kagome allowed herself to be embraced by Sesshoamru, she wasn't sure why he had done what he had, she felt the long of comfort she needed.
"Miko! i do not blame you for this, i am aware that she died in the hands of an evil monster named Naraku, and i will be the one to kill him. I will revenge her death, and finally bring you and myself peace. You see Miko, i myself have not gotten the rest i needed, and my land are paying for it." Kagome was taken back by his soft demeanour.
"Thank you Sesshomaru!" she pulled away from him, and looked towards where Inuyasha and her friends were. Sesshomaru noticed her looking towerds them, and realized she may have been taken care of the best of her ability, but her sanity was slipping. No one knew what the young Miko was going through as much as him, and he had a thought placed firmly in his head.
"You will come stay at the castle that i reside in." Kagome looked at him in shock, and was startled to think that what he was mental, where had his mind gone. Seshomaru knew it was risky to bring her with him, and he really wasn't sure he understood it himself. Something in him told him that he needed to do this. Rin would want it.
"I can't my friends, and Inuyasha! He has been a great sense of comfort these last few days." Sesshomaru turned from her and walked away. Stopping when he heard Kagome sigh. "I won't force you. It was an idea is all, Rin would have wanted you there, and i know what you are going through." Kagome hadn't realized that Sesshomaru had openly told her that Rin's death had destroyed him emotionally.
"Okay Sesshomaru, i will agree to go with you. But i have to tell Inuyasha, and i need to say my goodbyes." he nodded and left her to go find her friends to say goodbye.
Kagome walked into the clearing where Inuyasha, Sango, Miroku, Shippou and Kirara awaited her. She knew that Inuyasha wouldn't understand, and she would try to do her best to make him understand.
Inuyasha saw Kagome walk into the clearing and was relieved she was safe, he was relieved that Sesshomaru didn't want anything to do with her. Kagome moved towards him, and he took her in his arms. "Kaogme i am so glad that you are okay, i didn't want to leave yu alone with him. What did he want anyways?"
Kagome pulled out of Inuyasha's arms, and looked at him. "He wanted to know what exactly was wrong with me." she looked at Inuyasha and his confused face. "I know Inuyasha, thats what i thought also. Honestly he was reassuring about the whole thing." Inuyasha sighed.
"Well at least thats all the he wanted, we can carry on now. I'll let the others know." Kagome tapped his shoulder, and he turned around to see her solum look on her face.
"Inuyasha there is more. He asked me to travel with him, he asked me to travel back to his castle, and stay with him for a while. He knows what i am going through. He said he was going through the same thing, and he can help me." Inuyasha couldn't believe what she was saying.
"Kagome but.." she cut him off before he could say anything.
"Inuyasha i want to go. I think that for now it would be for the best. Miroku, and Sango need to have there wedding, and i feel like i am ruining that for them. You want to see Kikyou, i know you do, and i know that you have been too worried about me to go see her. Inuyasha i can't keep feeling like this, something has to change, and i know going on an adventure won't help. Maybe being around a different environment, talking to Sesshomaru. maybe we can both learn to move on." Her words were sound, and knew it. He just couldn't let her go. She was his best friend, and he couldn't be without her like this. But if this was what she truly needed, he let her go. Not without talking to Sesshomaru.
"Okay Kagome! Go say your goodbyes i ned to have a little word with my brother." and with that he walked away to find his half brother.
Sesshomaru was standing close to a tree, he was getting impatient, he knew that her goodbye would take time, and he wasn't surprised if Inuyasha made a big stink about it. Not much longer he watched his brother come storming up towards him.
"Hey Sesshoamru, we need to talk about some things before you take Kagome away." Sesshomaru allowed a small smirk on his face. This is why it had taken Kagome a while to say her goodbyes.
"Go on little brother." Inuyasha stopped in front of him and cleared his throat.
"Kagome deserves respect, and she deserves someone to talk care of her. Don't you let anything happen to her, else i will kill you. You got that ?" Sesshomaru didn't reply but let out his traditional "Hn"
Moments later Kagome walked into the area with her yellow backpack on her shoulders. she had a sad look on her face, and she gave Inuyasha a big hug goodbye. She walked towards Seshomaru and they walked off leaving Inuyasha and the rest all behind watching her disappear.
