THE CABALLEROS ARE OWNED BY WALT DISNEY AND HIS CREW!
"How's José doin'?" Panchito asked as he squatted down beside Donald in front of the white door.
Donald sighed. "From what I can see from the key hole, he's still laying in bed."
"¿Todavía? ¿A esta hora? Was the monster that scary?"
Donald nodded. "It's the scariest monster I've ever seen." From far away, the monster looked terrifying. He couldn't imagine how frightened José might have been for being in the front line. "But I passed out before it came near us. To be honest I don't even know how we managed to make it out alive. "
He rubbed the worried mans back. "Just be glad that you did," he commented.
Inside the guest bedroom, José laid on the large bed beside the sleeping Gabriel as he starred up at the pale blue ceiling. He didn't sleep a wink that night. He stood watch of his friends and Gabriel while they all slept together in the room incase any other supernatural force came for them, especially the monster. He even got up and checked if they were breathing. After what happened to his best friend, he wanted to make sure. He also replayed that memory over and over again. He turned to his side, wrapped his right arm around Gabriel and rested his hand on his black hair.
Inside the T.V...
Sweat dripped from his face as he ran as fast as he can while he carried Donald and Gabriel. His heart pounded harder like never before and his throat was in pain from breathing in the frosty air. He saw see the blue portal to their world in the distance, but the creature caught up to him and grabbed his ankle with its large, boney hand. José tripped and landed on his face, hard. Donald and Gabriel fell onto the floor. Donald fell head first, knocking him unconscious, and the boy immediately picked himself up and ran to José.
José looked up and saw Gabriel running toward him. As blood ran down from his nose and lips, he shouted, "Não venha!" The boy stopped in his tracks. "Stay over there! Don't come here!"
The boy nodded and went back to the unconscious man.
The creature tuned José onto his back and pinned him down. José starred up fearfully into its large, black, almond shaped eyes. He heard the creature growl like a demonic dog. The creature opened it's mouth slowly, breathing out what smelled close to rotten meat, and stuck out its black, snake like tongue. It then licked off some of his blood from the terrified mans chin. José snapped himself back and covered his face with his forearms. The creature suddenly sank its large, amber teeth into his right forearm, biting his bone as well. José let out a bloodcurdling scream. He could feel himself getting weaker and weaker as blood dripped from his arm. The creature bit down harder and José could feel that he would pass out at any moment. His vision began to blur, but he mustered up enough energy to use his free hand and poke the creature in its eye. It immediately let go of him and howled in pain. He turned onto his stomach and tried to crawl away with his good arm, but the monster grabbed his ankle again. José thought this was the end. But then he remembered something that could save his life.
He muttered,"Ao dar a criatura a incapacidade de ver. Ele vai me deixar livre." His left palm glowed bright blue. With his remaining strength, he turned to his side and punched the creature square in the face. The creature looked around, dazed and confused. José took the chance to stumble onto his feet and run to the guys. He grabbed them, ran to the portal and jumped in. Then, he woke up covered in sludge in his world with his friends.
He rolled up his sleeve to see how bad his wound was, but the wound was closed, leaving behind its teeth impressions only. He was thankful that his friends were unscathed after the incident and didn't have to ordeal what he had to go through. He looked down onto Gabriel's sleeping face. An infinite amount of questions ran through his mind. Who is this menino? Why was he in the T.V? Is he even human? Gabriel, with his eyes still shut, pulled up the blanket to his ears and nestled himself deeper into José's chest, like he had longed to be warm from being in that freezing hell. And like that, all of José's doubts of Gabriel being non-human flushed away. He looked across the room to the window to see what time of day it was and is eyes widened with fear when he saw shadows of what looked like sharp, elongated fingers at the window. José was frightened for a moment but calmed down when he realized they were the shadows of leafless branches from the trees.
"I think we should go in and talk to him," Panchito recommended. "He needs us right now."
Donald stated, "I tried to open the door, but it's locked and I lost the key to this room." Donald then moped.
Panchito moped as well for a while. But then he remember a valuable skill. "Oh! I know how to pick a lock," he said. He pulled out a hairclip from Donald's ear and jimmied the lock. After a few moments, he heard a click and twisted the door knob. "Abierto. It's open," he said. He picked himself and Donald up and gently opened the door. The creaking sound of the door mixed in with Panchito's voice. "José. It's us. Donald and Panchito."
José didn't reply.
"C'mon. We hate seeing you all sad 'n stuff," Donald said as he and Panchito sat down on the bed beside José's back.
José muttered, "Sinto muito que você se sentir assim. I couldn't sleep."
"Is it because of what happened?" Donald asked, a bit irritated. "What happened, happened. So let it go."
José shot up in a sitting position and asked, "Como você pode dizer isso? How can you expect me to just 'let it go'?"
Donald sighed and said, "It's actually very easy to let things go."
José tilted his head slightly. "É mesmo? How?" José let go of Donald as he explained that holding onto bad memories from the past will only make things worse and can sometimes hurt too. He also helped José re-imagine the monster by adding flower crowns on his head and exaggerated red lipstick on its lips. A few laughs were made here and there.
"But, you were dead? Isso não te incomoda?" José asked
Donald smirked. "So what? I've been dead before. 3 times actually!"
"¡Yo también!" Panchito said. "One time because un toro rammed me in my chest and my heart stopped for a whole 12 minutes!" Panchito began to giggle a bit as he remembered that experience. "And another when mi hermano kicked la pelota hard and it hit my chest. Dead for 5 minutes."
"Why are you laughing?!" José and Donald exclaimed at the giggling man.
Panchito wiped a tear from the side of his eye and explained, "Its what we call "comedia negra." Or "dark comedy" as you say." He then let Donald go on with his advice, seeing that this is a rare moment for Donald.
Donald patted the top of Panchito's red head and thanked him for sharing his macabre story. "But to get to the point, just don't think about it and replace it with other stuff. Like having fun!" Donald smiled and said, "I say we go to the park. We can get some nice, fresh air and we can play in the leaves or something."
"Buena idea Donald," Pancito commented.
Donald and Panchito clasped their hands together with José's and asked, "What do you say?"
José thought for a moment as he starred into their begging faces. He wanted to forget about what happened and wanted to have fun with his bestest friends in the world. He smiled and said, "I say sim. I think its a good idea too." They cheered, but were shushed by José.
"And we can take Gabriel tambien!" Panchito whispered.
"I don't know guys." Donald commented. "I still have a funny feeling about the kid."
"C'mon Donald," Panchito said. "What's the worst that can happen?"
At the park...
They arrived at the park, where they were greeted with a few stray leaves that smacked them in the face. The sun was still visible and the sky was painted with bright colors of oranges and pinks and some hues of purple. They weather was nice and crisp with soft gusts of wind here and there. Donald wore a thin, dark blue hoodie and lent Gabriel one of Huewy's jackets and winter caps. Panchito wore a red plaid shirt and red hoodie with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Compared to them, José bundled himself up with a green scarf and black zip-up jacket. The guys weren't surprised when they saw kids dressed in their monster costumes while they played Frisbee or tag. With all the leaves on the floor, Panchito, Donald and Gabriel started to collect them and make a pile on an open field.
As he watched his friends collect mountains of leaves, José sat down on a bench and nestled his head in his green scarf. His eyes begun to droop and his head tided to his shoulder. He dozed off for a bit. He then woke up when he felt disembodied hands grab his ankles and arms wrapped under his armpit. He looked down and saw Donald and Gabriel holding on to his ankles and saw Panchito's tan arms wrapped under his armpit, who carried him toward the enormous leaf pile. As the guys rocked him side to side, José frantically asked what they were doing, but they just grinned. They counted to three and threw him onto the pile. Once José came up, they jumped in as well. Gabriel was a bit hesitant to jump, but with a little persuasion, he jumped in. As they wrestled with one another and "swam" in the dried up leaves, they were the center of attention of a few kids dressed as super heroes and fairies. José fell out of the pile when Donald accidently kicked him in the stomach.
A little blonde boy dressed as Frankenstein came up to the groaning man and asked, "Hey Mister. Can we play too?"
"Claro," he said. He looked up at his friends and asked them, "What do you guys think?"
Donald, who's arms were wrapped around Panchito's neck in a head lock, replied, "Fine by me." He looked down at the oxygen deprived Mexican and asked the same question.
Panchito tapped on Donald's forearm, signaling him to release his grip. He gasped for air and said, "Y...Yo creo que...we should let the niños play take over so we don't accidently hurt them."
"What?!" Donald shouted. "But we spent forever making this!"
Panchito pointed at the kids and said, "Pero mira. Look at their faces." The kids looked up at Donald and begged to go in with their puppy dog eyes.
Donald rolled his eyes and gave in. He pushed Panchito off of the pile and belly flopped onto his back.
José giggled and told the kids they could play. Their little faces lit up and they all jumped in. José called out for Gabriel over the laughter of the kids and crunches of the leaves. The boy immediately came out of the pile, covered in leaves. José sat up on his knees and asked, "O que você diz Gabriel? Do you want to play with the other kids?" Gabriel nodded. "Perfeito! This can be a good way for you to make friends with kids your age!" He cheered as he nudged Gabriel to go back in. "And don't worry. We'll be back in a while," he said. Gabriel smiled and jumped back in.
From what it looked like, the kids seemed to be getting a long with the purple eyed boy. Gabriel didn't talk, but his face did the talking for him. He laughed and smiles as he pounced on his new friends. Even some of the little princesses were fond of the boy. José felt like a proud mom in that moment.
Donald called out to José. He got up and saw that Donald once again had Panchito in a head lock. He ran and kneeled down beside the "wrestlers". We counted to tree as he patted the floor, like a referee. Once he got to three, Donald shot up with joy and did a small victory dance. José helped Panchito up onto his feet and reassured him that he'll win the next match. They walked around for a while as they thought of things to do. It didn't take long for them to find what they were looking for.
They spotted a large hill with no pedestrians near by. They snickered at each other and raced to the top. Like a bullet, Panchito bolted up the hill and made it to the top without breaking a sweat. He looked down at the guys, who were still near the bottom with persistence in their faces. Donald and José were neck and neck. They pushed and shoved each other, but José lost his footing, slipped and rolled down all the way to the bottom. The guys burst into laughter, gripping their stomachs and wiping tears from the sides of their eyes. Panchito rolled down the hill as well and managed to knock down Donald, who also tumbled down. They repeatedly climbed up and rolled down the grassy hill and managed to bump heads with each other when veering off or tumbling down on top of one another. They also indulged themselves in other activities once they've had enough. They climbed a few trees, laid on the grass and starred at the clouds and swung on a tire swing. Not only that, but they helped some kids retrieve a ball from a tall tree and applied basic first aid and laughs to kids who got small cuts and scrapped knees. The guys even helped lull a baby to sleep when it's mom tried and failed to put it to sleep herself. José begun to fall asleep like the baby as they sung, but a few smacks on the face woke him up. They were rewarded with some ice cream money. They decided that they would go get ice cream with their little friend and headed back to get Gabriel.
When they came back, the leaf pile was no more and the kids had left. Gabriel was sitting down with his knees to his chest. Donald and Panchito ran toward him, but José noticed something off about the boy. He squinted his eyes and saw that Gabriel's eyes were pitch black. José rubbed his eyes in disbelief, but when he looked back up, Gabriel's eyes were purple again and the guys had made it to him. The Brazilian brushed it off and ran toward them. They didn't think much about the kids leaving. They thought it was because it was getting dark and they left, but it would have been nice if they stayed while they came back so he wouldn't be alone. José helped the boy up and held his hand. As they walked, the guys asked Gabriel questions about his play date with the kids, but reduced them to simple yes or no questions when he only responded with nods.
Gabriel's attention was then caught by a small, wooden bridge. He tugged on José's hand and insisted to take that route. They guys ended up going and hung out there for a while. They leaned in front of the railing with their heads on their crossed arms and looked out at the setting sun. Gabriel was small enough to fit in-between the two wooden supports. Gabriel looked down at the clear water and pointed down at his reflection with excitement.
José squatted down beside him, pointed down at the water and said, "Essa é a sua reflexão Gabriel." Gabriel looked at him with confusion.
Donald said, "He's saying it's just your reflection. It's like a mirror, but only in water form."
"Impressionante," José commented. "How did you know?"
Donald shrugged with a toothy grin. "I may or may not be watching some of those show's you told me about."
Panchito felt a bit offended. "What about the novella's I told you about?!" He exclaimed.
"Don't get me started on those!" He shouted as he recalled last weeks show. Donald grabbed Panchito by the collar and shook him back and forth as he shouted, "Why did Paola end up with Javier?! Enrique was such a nice guy! Why did she choose a cheating, lying, moocher like him?!"
As the guys tried to calm down Donald, Gabriel lunged forward and fell off the bridge. José spotted what happened in the corner of his eye and grabbed Gabriel's ankle. He tried to grab the pole, but he lost his grip and began to fall too. Then, Donald grabbed his ankles and Panchito grabbed Donald's. José pulled Gabriel up and Gabriel managed to climb up José and Donald with ease. However, Gabriel's little hands made the ticklish Panchito loosen his grip on the pillar. Once Gabriel made it to the bridge, Panchito's hands slipped and they fell onto the cold water. To their surprise, the water was shallow and didn't completely submerge them.
Donald spit out some water and tapped the side of his head so water would come out his ear. The water reached a little above Donald's elbow as he was sitting down. He looked up at the boy and shouted, "You're gonna get a spanking when we get back home!" Gabriel wasn't affected by his words. He simply sat down at the edge and starred down.
Panchito took off his sombrero and patted it to remove excess water. "Where's José?" He asked as he put the sombrero back on his head. They looked around, but couldn't spot him. Bubbled emitted from under Donald. Donald had landed on top of José's head. He scooted away and José immediately shot up, gasping for air and coughing out water. Donald patted his back when they heard a lout shout.
"Hey!" A powerful, disembodied voice shouted. They look up and see a large, muscular police officer standing behind Gabriel. "No playing in the water!"
"D-Disculpe officer," Panchito said as he tipped his sombrero. "We were juth..." Panchito gasped. He tried talking again. "Thorry theñor, we were juth..." He then recalled that he had taken his pills earlier and they kicked in.
The officer crossed his buff arms and exclaimed, "Don't give me your excuses burrito eater!"
Panchito threw up his fist in the air and shouted angrily, "Burritho's aren't even from Mexthico!"
"Yeah yeah! Just get out of the water before I write you up!" He threatened.
The three of them saluted and exclaimed, "Yes sir!"
"And don't leave your kid unattended!" He added. The officer then dashed away to where they had left.
"That's strange," Donald muttered.
"Whath's sthrange mi amigo? That he thought burritho's were from Mecthico?" Panchito asked.
"Not that," Donald said. "This park is very peaceful. There's rarely any police here unless something important happened." Donald shrugged and said, "Oh well. He must be late for the ribbon cutting of a doughnut shop or something."
When they turned to riverbank, they saw José had already made it out of the water and laid down on his back. Gabriel was standing beside him and starring at the guys. Donald and Panchito hurried out of the cold water and saw that their friend had fallen asleep. José didn't even bother to dry himself off. Panchito took off his jacket, twisted it till it was dry and gave it to Donald. Panchito squatted in front of José as Donald put the sleepy mans body on his back. Once José was on his back, Panchito stood up and carried him. Donald put the jacket on José's back like a blanket and held on to Gabriel's left hand, since his right hand was holding onto José's.
They walked up the riverbank and followed the concrete pavement out of the park. Both Panchito and Donald were tired as well and planned to get ice cream the next day. They needed their rest. If all of this happened before Halloween, who knows what tomorrow will bring...
I have no clue if there was a good message in this chapter or not. But I think its cute and the story moved on. And as a Mexican, I can say that every Mexican I know has some dark comedy in them. Whether it be about loosing their job or getting hit by a truck.
Again, the headcannons of Panchito and Donald dying are mine. I made them up. Unless they did. To which I didn't know.
It was really fun making this chapter. I felt that the guys had been through a lot and needed a break from all this hullaballoo. So I put them in a park! And yes, Panchito's side affect is a lisp. :
