Things Fall Apart

Part One- Conception (One Month Later)

"Yes, Princess T'Pring you are pregnant. Nearly three weeks," Syian finished examining T'Pring.

T'Pring closed her legs and sat up, "I guess the Prince will be getting another child."

Syian said nothing.

"Should I tell the Prince?" He finally asked.

"No, he will find out soon enough. Thank you Syian."

Syian bowed, "The royal family's health is always my first priority."

T'Pring left and moved down the hall as fast as she could before succumbing to her emotions and crashing to the ground.

She began weeping. She had conceived a child through the horror and shame of rape.

Suddenly, T'Pring's body jolted and she headed in another direction, Nyota's quarters.

Like everyone else, Nyota heard the whispers of T'Pring's rape at the hands of the Prince. Throughout her years at the palace living among the Vulcans, Nyota learned the value of minding her own business and never getting involved in the politics of the palace life. For that, she earned the respect of many in the royal family including the Emperor who in return for Nyota's discretion awarded her more freedom and privileges uncommon to royal concubines.

Nyota jumped when T'Pring opened the doors to her room.

"T'Pring you know you can't come in here like this," Nyota screamed.

The baby stirred and started crying.

Uninterested T'Pring rubbed her stomach proudly, "I am carrying the Prince's child!"

Nyota handed the baby off to a servant and bit her lip.

"You came all this way to tell me that? Why?"

"With each new child I give the Prince your position as well as Syon's becomes more uncertain."

Nyota hesitated for a moment, "Prince Spock actually cares about me and has come to see the genius within Syon. Our lives here aren't uncertain, but yours might be. "

"How dare you!"

"You are a veiled wife!"

Nyota was not in the mood. T'Pring's personal troubles with the Prince were coming to a head and Nyota didn't want or need to be involved.

T'Pring was deeply troubled on an emotional and mental level. She was coming undone.

Prince Spock had ruined both their lives, but Nyota found her strength through Syon.

"Get out of my room and don't ever come to my quarters again!" Nyota screamed.

T'Pring stared at Nyota before laughing hysterically and left as quickly as she had come. Nyota looked at the servant holding her baby and wondered where T'Unyal was.

Part Two-Fall of the Emperor

"Syian has informed me about T'Pring's pregnancy a few hours ago."

Prince Spock lowered his eyes, "So I am going to have another son."

"You will have whatever your wife gives you!" The emperor said sharply. "I can't believe you raped your own wife! I told you to bring about peace in your family to prevent your half-brother's spies from undermining us. What were you thinking?"

The prince shrugged his shoulders, "Sorry."

"An emperor is never sorry! Syian has told me that aside from her pregnancy T'Pring is suffering mentally as well. I had a feeling this might happen. The woman has been neglected for so long."

"If she gives birth to a daughter then she can keep the child. I won't have much use for a daughter."

Emperor Sarek began coughing, his eyes green from sickness and his body gaunt and frail. "This disease is eating me alive, my son. I thought I had prepared you for this day. The day when I hand over the power of the Vulcan Empire to you, but I worry….I worry so much."

"I never wanted to be Emperor and I am still so young. I can't….."

"YOU MUST!" Emperor Sarek screamed before coughing again.

Prince Spock shook his head, "My family is a mess. I haven't been to see Nyota since she gave birth, I don't love my wife and our son is too weak to take the throne. I see leadership in Syon and I want him to be my heir."

The emperor closed his eyes, "I am reminded of a saying, a human saying; if a lion knows his own strength no man could tame him."

"Father?"

"Don't be fooled by your son, Spock. Syon might be a child now but he will grow into a lion waiting for the right moment to strike. He is a god among insects. One day he is going to realize it. And when that happens, this empire will be thrust into chaos unlike anything we have ever seen."

"Are you saying Syon is a threat?"

"Syon is loyal to Vulcan, he hates his human blood, and so he isn't in that way. However, Syon won't be afraid of getting rid of those will oppose him, like his brother and others who aren't going to want a half-breed as emperor."

"Like me?"

"Very few know of your secret my son but everyone knows Syon is the child of your concubine. It's going to be different for him."

Emperor Sarek moaned in pain, "I am dying. I can no longer rule. Spock, you are now the Emperor and T'Pring is the Empress. Make sure T'Pring's madness doesn't hurt Nyota or Syon."

Prince Spock nodded his head, "Syon….."

"Syon is the future of this family for better or worst. Sinok won't be able to stand against him when the time comes and neither will you. I hate to say this…Syon is perhaps the most valuable ally you have in standing up against Sybok who will surely strike when I am dead."

"Father…."

"Death brings so much clarity, so much peace, and understanding …."

Syian who had come back into room quickly rushed to his majesty's side to try to administer more medicine to dull the pain.

But it was too late.

Spock felt his father's hand go cold, "He is dead."

Part Three- The Lion Takes a Bite

The death of the emperor rippled throughout the palace which exploded into a chaotic commotion of servants, family, and dignitaries all trying to figure out how best to break the new throughout the empire.

Hardly anyone including my own father knew of my grandfather's illness and while I suspected, I too was surprised when I learned of his death.

Determine to make a move; I decided to put the first phase of my plan into action.

T'Unyal benefited from the commotion of the palace, her grandfather's death only made it easier for her to reach out to her father and inform him of it.

She was in her room preparing to send a coded message.

"So cousin what are you going to tell my uncle about our grandfather?" A voice emerged from the darkness.

Startled T'Unyal dropped the communicator and turned to see Syon standing in corner of the room.

Scared, the servant sat on the ground and lowered her head.

"How long have you known?"

"For a while, I never did anything because I didn't see you as a threat to either myself or my family."

Syon smirked, "I've come to realize you are no value to me. You see, it doesn't really matter if you are a spy. With the death of your sisters, you have been cut off and unable to reach Sybok. And even if you did, you don't have anything to share with him. I made sure that your only duties were to care for my mother and the two of you bonded over the years."

"Yes. The Prince doesn't talk to her much about anything."

"My mother is a concubine."

Picking up the communicator, Syon hands it to T'Unyal, "Contact your father."

Confused T'Unyal asked, "Why?"

"Let him move forward with his plan, it serves me better in the long run."

Sending the message off, T'Unyal address Syon, "My father is going to bring his vengeance upon all of you. He is going to purify the polluted family lines by killing your father and all of his offspring!"

Without hestiation Syon reached over T'Unyal and slit her throat.

"I need to speak to Sinok," Syon thought to himself.

"I killed her," Syon admitted to Sinok.

"What?"

"I killed her because she was a spy, the last of Sybok's daughters."

Sinok felt queasy, "Then you must know about us?"

Syon nodded his head, "If you don't leave my family along, I will simply tell our father about your brief affair with T'Unyal and how you knew she was a spy. And you will find yourself in the same position as Sybok if our father doesn't kill you first."

"It was one time and I didn't know this! If you knew, why didn't you say anything?"

"Because I didn't sleep with her," Syon mocked before walking towards the door. "I have proof and I will use it if I have too. Just leave my family along and support me."

"Support you?"

"When the time comes, you will support me or else."

"What do you want?"

"The throne."

Part Four- House of Sulu

"Mother we cannot be in business with Sybok! I can't even believe that a monster like Khan would even be still alive!" Duke Hiraku Sulu protested.

Duchess Himiko sat unmoved by her son's words, "I have been an ally of Sybok for years. If we are to survive the coming storm then we must become allies to those who will win!"

Hiraku clinched his fists, "The House of Sulu can't be involved in a Vulcan civil war! Why don't you think about what could happen to me or your grandson should the Emperor finds out?"

"Emperor Sarek is dead!"

"What?"

"With his death comes Prince Spock who will now take his place. "

Hiraku could feel his heart pinch; Prince Spock brought him to thoughts of Nyota.

"Whatever is going on with Sybok and his family we can't involve ourselves."

"Akira, your son is next to inheriting the leadership of his house after you and needs to see his father act like a man and not some love sick puppy!"

"Nyota is in my past, mother! You made sure of that when you worked to get her off-world!"

Himiko spat, "Yes! Now the royal family trusts us and Sybok trusts us!"

"Even though the other noble houses on Earth do not, is that okay with you?"

"The other houses do not concern me. They never did. I don't trust Sybok either which is why I have given the instructions to complete the bio-weapon to the Romulans as well."

"I can't believe I am hearing this! The Romulans are nothing more than a species trying to prevent their own extinction!"

Himiko laughed, "Of course! I am playing both sides against each other for the good of our house. Sulus have done this for generations even when the Vulcans first invaded we worked with them to prevent our own destruction. It has given us great wealth and power."

"It's a shame to have this be our family's legacy. But you don't have any guarantee that Khan's arrival will help us."

"It will. One way or the other."

"This is unwise, mother."

"Are you a Sulu?"

"I wear the name Sulu with pride but I am not a Sulu from your time, mother. I am a Sulu who believes in fostering peace and peaceful relations with not only our subjects but also with the other great houses. We must come away from this, this tarnish legacy of treachery and self-preservation. As leader of this house, I have the final say; the House of Sulu will not be involved with Sybok, or this Khan."

"You can't do that!" Himiko hissed.

"I just did," Hiraku sneered at his mother. "You will ruin us and I won't let that happen. There is a reason why Sybok isn't the new emperor and whatever the reason I don't care."

"What of Khan and the Romulans?"

"What of them?"

Himiko hissed and stormed off.

Nyota.

He needed to see Nyota and prevent his mother's desire for power from destroying them.

AN: I don't think Syon is evil at least not yet, but he is for sure well beyond his years. He will play a much bigger role in the third installment of the series, however, still not sure if I am going to write about him as a child or an adult. Either way he is my favorite character:)
