Tessa stared at the white blank walls, she felt like it has been years but it has only been days. Her body has been sore and her mind was blank, she felt as if someone was tugging her mentally and physically, tears form in her eyes as she closed them to try to hold them back. She turn just as Miranda entered the room, she wasn't even courteous to knock first. Miranda was the maid at whatever she was being held at, she had pale skin and dull eyes, as if she was just lifeless.

"Miss Gray, the Sisters will see you now." She said in a dull monotone voice, as if she was a robot. Tessa nodded her head and followed her down the dimly lit hallway; the place had smelled of musk and fire. She followed her into the office where two older ladies sat on the desk, both looked around their 50's, but the exact opposite. Mrs. Dark was a heavier set woman, she was round and her eyes were small and deep set, she was wearing a bright yellow dress and purple gloves. Mrs. Black was thin and everything about her seemed colorless, her skin, hair, eyes, her bright red dress was the only thing on her that was colorful, she wore blue gloves.

"I think it is time Miss Gray you show us your talent." Mrs. Dark grinned eerily.

Tessa's eye grew wide; no one spoke of anything like this in her family, especially her parents. She knew no one else knew of this, especially Starkweather. Her hand made her way to her the small clockwork necklace, she was happy to know that it was still there to keep her stable.

Tessa, 7 years old, walked into her grandmother's house, it was empty and seems hollow. Nathaniel, only a few years older walked up beside her. Tessa sighed softly and looked around, as their parents begin moving in boxes and crates. Tessa made her way to the stairs along with her older brother, they raced up to their Grandma's room. It was bright, the bed was made up and the sunlight shown through the cream colored curtains. They began rummaging through the stuff as they did whenever their grandmother was alive. Tessa went straight to the closet, her eyes grew wide with all the beautiful lace dresses her grandmother wore back when she was a teenager. She reached up and grabbed the beautiful dress putting it over her clothes. Then all the sudden Tessa felt dizzy, her head and body felt as if the room was spinning.

"Nathan, I..I don't feel good." Tessa whined.

"It's probably the dust, don't be a baby." Nathaniel mumbled as he rummage through his Grandfather's old box of knives and tools.

"No, I feel as it…" Tessa started panting, Nathaniel ignored her with a scowl. She fell to the ground coughed a little, she felt her body stretch and then she was drawn into darkness.

"MOM! DAD!" She opened her eyes to see Nathaniel screaming, he was across the room and his face was twisted with fear. "MOM! DAD! TESSA, TESSA! There's something wrong!" She heard her parents run up the stairs and then all the sudden she heard her mother screaming. Tessa sat up, she was wearing her Grandmother's dress, but it was fitting perfectly. Her hair was in dark brown ringlets and she put her hands on her face, it was soft but it felt older.

"What…is….she?" Her mother cried grabbing on to her father.

"She's…a shapeshifter." The Father pulled away, he drew closer to Tessa. "Tessa, darling, are you there."

"Daddy what is happening?" She said, her voice wasn't her own. All the sudden she was flooded with memories, her Grandmother falling in love, fighting off some sort of demon, and a strange old man being beside her, and he wasn't her grandfather.

"Daddy make it stop!" Tessa squealed as she covered her ears and coiled up in a little ball. She finally found herself overwhelmed and her eyes closed and her mind snapped as if someone stepped on a little branch. She was back to her originally form, she looked around at her parents whose faces looked fearful but worried.

Tessa knew from that day she was not ordinary, she avoided wearing her friend's clothes or jewelry, anything that belonged to someone else, she didn't touch out of fear. She usually distanced herself from making real friends, she was the girl to stay home on the weekends, her usual wardrobe consisted of hoodies and loose fitting jeans. After her last school incident, her parents decided to move her to another school along with Nathaniel after getting in a brawl with the boys picking on her. She knew her family will never be normal because she wasn't even human, she was a thing. She closed her eyes and tears fell out of them slowly.

"Now, now," Mrs. Black gripped her chin, Tessa felt her heart beating faster because under those brightly gloves were claws and she felt it. " We will need to see your little talent, we know all about it, we just got to see it." Mrs. Black smiled as if she was a sweet old lady, which was the exactly opposite. Tessa nodded and held out her hand, it was shaking slowly. Mrs. Dark smirked and pulled a necklace of pearls from the drawer of the desk.

"I think these are perfect." Mrs. Dark said grimly moving her way to Tessa and smacking it down into her hand. "Now change." She commanded.

"I need time." Tessa snapped and then drew back, she gripped the pearls in her hand, they were cold, even in this room that was like a sauna. She looked at the pearls, she saw a small specks of blood on them, they were removed from some poor girl they murdered. She closed her eyes and the room started to spin, she finally fell into the darkness as she grabbed the memories of the young lady, who was 23 and just recently engaged, she just found out she was pregnant and went to the grocery before she was murdered. She opened her eyes, the dress Tessa had on was slightly tighter. She looked up to see the Dark sister's beaming faces.

"Perfect, now time for more." Mrs. Black grinned pulling out a box of junk.

"Why haven't we done shit!?" Will slammed his fist on the desk of Starkweather. "One of your students and also a future shadow hunter is missing and we are still going to classes like it's normal!" Will exclaimed.

"I think your just using her disappearance as an excuse to get out of class." Jessamine looked at her nails boringly.

"Why are you here?" Will snarled looking back at her.

"Excuse me, don't get pissy with me because your little thing decided to get up and get kidnapped." Jessamine snapped back.

"I don't think she just allowed herself to be kidnapped, that takes the whole purpose away from the purpose of taking someone without their permission." Cecily said she was sitting on the couch beside Jem who was staring out the window, he was paler than usual and can tell he was good.

"She's been missing for three days, she could be dead." Will said.

"William, I need you to sit down." Starkweather said sternly, his voice was deep and commanding which made Will sit in the chair infront of his desk. "I have sent a message to Idris, they are looking for her, but since she is not an official shadowhunter they will not rush for her rescue." He sighed putting on his reading glasses and looking over a piece of paper which happened to be the note. "They reported that it could have been witches involved in this kidnapping since your reports of fog."

"Yes, we get it downworlder's involved." Will said hurriedly.

"William, will you please shut up and let the man talk." Jem finally spoke up. Will looked at him in shock, Jem raised his brow and gave him a certain look which made Will purse his lips.

"Well, there are also a lot of murder's happening around the area's and it's all the sudden, so something else is building up, we do not know if it's tied in with Tessa's kidnapping or something bigger." Starkweather put down the paper.

"I heard her brother mention something about a Ball at his school, the Lightwood Annual Ball, you know?" Jem mentioned. "He said that she would be escorting Gabriel, this will be a grand opportunity for the downworlders to crash this ball."

"Or they would be invited to it, there is no crashing a ball that's thrown for downworlders" Will said.

"You know that's just a Myth." Cecily said rolling her eyes.

"I highly doubt it." Will muttered. "I think we need to attend this ball, we could listen in to see if there is any news on Tessa's disappearance, you know they talk a lot, we can call Camille." Will looked at Starkweather.

"I don't think we should involve Camille, she's probably busy with vampire stuff." Jessamine rolled her eyes. "I mean she's probably goes to different countries with that husband of hers."

"Let's just talk to her." Will said.

"As long as we can attend this ball, I'll be fine." Cecily stood up with excitement and bounce.

"This is a mission and I expect you guys to go in, find out information and leave." Starkweather looked at Cecily, who didn't even let that phase her, she was giddy about the ball.

"You four go in, find her and get out, I do not want you involve into whatever mess they have over there." Starkweather said.

"Oh, I will have to get a dress, and go shopping and also find out what style I'm wearing, what type of ball would it be…" Jessamine clapped her hands with joy as she rushed out the office followed by Cecily.

Jem looked at Will, his eyes were now pale silver and his pupils were small, he looked delicate as if any gush of wind could blow him away. Will sighed he hated seeing Jem like this. He hated knowing there is nothing he can do to take his pain away, and it only gets worse each day, especially since the drug is he only thing he depends on to live.

"I need to lie down." Jem finally spoke up while he was getting out of the chair he headed out of the door. "I will see my doctor very soon before this mission and I will be better, do not worry." After that he disappeared.

"William, I need you to visit the town, listen around." Starkweather leaned back intertwining his fingers together. "You will meet up with Magnus Bane; he is the one that will help you get into this Ball."

Will nodded before getting up and leaving the office, he headed towards the iron gates where a young man was waiting. He was dressed in all black and his hair was spiked up. "Well, they get younger each time." The strange man said raising his brow. "I'm guessing you're the Herondale boy." He looked at Will up and down then rolled his eyes motioning him to get in the smooth black Lexus parked on the curb. "Starkweather filled me in on all the details." Magnus began driving through the small road that lead to the town.

"What the deal on this Ball?" Will asked.

"Well there a new business man in town, Mortmain, he has money, a lot of money and business, he has ships, supplies everything, The Lightwoods need to impress him so they can share the wealth." Magnus explained, "But I don't know how the Downworlders are involved in this."

"Ofcourse the Lightwoods would wrap their grubby little fingers around some illegal, they act too innocent not to." Will snarled as he leaned against the wall.

"Oh Herondale, you need to relax, this is also a ball where you can have fun you know?" Magnus looked through a rack of tuxedos.

"I'll relax when Tessa is safe and sound." He mumbled softly under his breath but still made Magnus stop and smirk before he pulled out a tuxedo and looked at Will.

"Don't worry, she will."

Tessa stared at her reflection in the mirror, she never noticed how different she looked until someone else did everything for her. Her hair was darkened and in beautiful curls that surrounded her face. Her make up was simple but her eyes were done to make her eyes look a silver and her lips were bright red and glossed. Her dress was classic as if they were in a old movie, it was a deep red that contrasted with her porcelain skin, she felt like a little doll. Her mind was still spinning as she heard a knock on the door, it was Gabriel Lightwood, The Dark sisters transported her to their mansion before the ball so the servants would get them ready, Gabriel was suppose to be her escort for tonight. She looked at him with a sudden eerie feeling in her stomach.

"You're brother never mentioned about how attractive you actually are, if that's how you truly look." Gabriel smirked. Gabriel was the normal prep school boy, with dark, curly, blonde hair, his eyes were a dark green. He looked as if he tortured small animals for his own enjoyment, something was missing in those eyes and it scared her. "Well you look ready, but are you?" He slowly ran his hand on her bare shoulder and goosebumps appeared. "Are you afraid?" He smirked.

"You know they're going to find you." She snarled, then he cupped his hand around her face and leaned in where it looked like they were about to kiss.

"I hope Will finds me, I have a present for him, I don't think he will like it as much but it will be fun for me." He grinned and then pulled his hand away. "Let's go, we're late."
