Chapter 3: Coincidences, Surprises

"Aw man, with the greenhouse closed, where am I supposed to get cookies?" Tadashi moaned as he laid back down the field. Akira threw the basket beside her to Tadashi. Like always, it landed his face. It was a sunny day for a picnic and it was what the two decided to do.

"Is that all you can think about? Food?" Akira said, scratching the back of her head in irritation towards the male idiot. Tadashi simply nodded, getting another hit from Akira. "You should care more about other things instead of that, stupid."

Tadashi sat up, folding his legs in a meditation form. "Like what?"

"Oh I don't know. The greenhouse maybe?" Her voice was laced with sarcasm. "And the others too. Ever since Hiro came there has been all sorts of trouble."

"You think it's all because of Hiro?"

"I don't know. But I don't trust him."

"Hm. Not much has changed, really. If you think about it, Kei is still the demon, Hikari is still the demon's possession and-"

"I'll give you three seconds to run."

"I'm going now!"

"Be safe!" her mother called back. Wearing casual clothes, she made her way towards the supermarket.

Getting the things she needed, she spotted a figure ahead of her in the till. It was weird seeing him outside of school. Actually, no since the first time he saw her was outside of school.

"Kinos- Hiro-kun!" she called once they were both out of the market. The male turned his head and was more than happy to see her.

"Hikari. What a pleasure of seeing you."

"Yeah, I'm running a few errands for the parents. Groceries," she said as she lifted the plastic bag in her hands."

Her thoughts were interrupted, again, by two familiar people. She noticed them, laughing together. She gasped, grabbing Hiro's hand and hid behind a nearby car in the parking.

"I can't believe it. Yahiro and Megumi are on a date?" she shouted in a whispery way. As much as Hiro wanted to look, he couldn't help but stare at his hand that was held onto tightly by the girl beside him. It seemed like she didn't notice yet so he let it slide. Hiro peaked at where she was pointing and saw a couple having the time of their lives.

"What's wrong with that?" asked Hiro. "I think it's cute."

"Look! They're on the move!" she followed them going around the corner. With his hand still in her grip, he was forced to go with her trail Megumi and Yahiro, not that he minded anyway.

Hiro watched the back of her figure, a smile creeping up on his lips.

"You never fail to amuse me, Hika-chan."

.

.

.

.

"Shh, be quiet, Hiro-kun! They might see us," Hikari whispered, hiding behind a trash can in the mall. They followed the other pair into four different places, from a coffee shop, to an open concert to an instrument shop. Finally, the couple stopped by at the mall for a meal.

Hiro let out his hundredth sigh that day. He didn't say it but he actually enjoyed following the other pair with the only reason that he was with Hikari. People passed them, looking worried and concerned about their mental health.

"Say Hikari…"

"Mmm?"

"Do you like Kei?"

Well that was unexpected.

Hikari laughed, a bit too louder than she hoped. She was frantically shaking her head and even hit the male on his shoulder. She had been avoiding talking about Kei or just thinking about him and Hiro just had to bring it up.

"A-hah! You've got to be kidding me! Me, liking Takishima? Ha ha you're funny!"

"I'd say the path of being an actress would definitely not suit you, Hikari," Hiro said, bemused.

Shit.

"W-what do you mean? I'm not l-lying," Hikari choked on the words. This was not the time for this talk. Thankfully a pair of voices acted as her escape route.

"Move it Ryuu! I can't see!"

"Shush! If you're too loud, they'll notice us."

"I'm not the only one who's loud you know."

Hikari and Hiro turned their heads where the other trash can was. Twenty feet away from them were Ryuu and Jun. If they were out here spying, that must mean that Megumi and Yahiro were on a date.

"Ryuu! Jun!" The two males looked at their left, seeing the same image of themselves. They lifted the trash can and slowly moved it, not taking it away in front of them.

"Hikari-chan! Kinose-san! What are you doing here?" Jun asked as the two trash cans came intact with each other.

"We wanted to ask the same question." Hikari folded her arms. Ryuu sighed, and explained the situation.

"Megumi's been acting all weird this week. So Jun and I followed her everywhere all week to see what she's up to."

Hikari nodded understanding the situation. It's only normal to have your sibling be protective of you.

Seeing Yahiro and Megumi finishing up on their meal, the four lowered down. They heard a little bit of their conversation when Yahiro came closer, throwing a bottle of soda in Hikari and Hiro's trash cans.

"You know what's weird?" he asked.

Megumi tilted her head as a sign of her asking 'what'.

"These two trash cans are too close to each other." The four gulped thinking that it was game over for them. Yahiro was about to touch one of them to move it but luckily Megumi opposed the idea.

"Don't touch it! It's too dirty. Let the workers here move them," she wrote after stopping him. Yahiro nodded, wiping his hands with a tissue given by Megumi.

"I guess so. They're just trash cans anyway," he said with a laugh. They went away, heading for the exit.

"Phew, that was close," Hikari sighed in relief. He stood up along with the other three. Ryuu and Jun were already gone in pursuit of the two.

"Should we follow them?" Hiro asked.

"Well, we better them follow since-" Her sentence was cut off after glancing at the huge tower clock in the centre of the mall. It was already four-thirty pm and she needed to get back home by five pm. She was running late.

It wasn't her nature to curse but it just slipped out of nowhere.

"I'll see you on Monday!" Hikari looked back and smiled as she waved her hands at him. Standing on his own again, he sighed and chuckled and thought about how typical Hikari was. Hiro decided to head home.

It would be very boring without his Hika-chan after all.

.

.

.

.

Hikari rushed to the exit of the mall. She was running but at the same time being careful not to bump into anyone. Apparently she wasn't careful enough as she managed to crash into another. A tight grip on her shoulders prevented her from stumbling.

"In a rush, are we?"

"Takishima? What- what are you doing here?"

"Nice to see you too Hikari," Kei greeted with a smile. Uh-oh. That's not good.

"What are you doing here?" She repeated.

"What, I can't go to a public mall by myself?" Hikari nodded without hesitation. He was always surrounded by those clones clad in black suits so it was normal for her to be surprised seeing him by himself.

Kei chuckled. Okay, definitely not good.

"I'm here because my dad asked me to. I don't know why though. So I did. At first I refused but now," he paused, staring intently at her. "I'm glad I went."

Hikari blushed. The way he was looking at her, it made her feel bare. He wasn't supposed to be having this effect on her. Hikari tried changing the subject. "Well, I better go. My mom's going to go ballistic if I don't arrive home in time. See you on Monday, Takishima!" Hikari smiled and made a peace sign before walking past Kei. Run, Hikari. Just run and never look back at those eyes. Run!

'Oh you're not going to leave just yet little miss,' Kei thought. He ran back out to catch Hikari and grabbed her by the arm.

There was no way he was going to let her go just like that. With the two of them being rarely alone, it was the perfect opportunity to spend time together. He didn't want her to leave.

No, not just yet.

"I need you..." he said.

Hikari wore a shocked expression. Her mouth was shaped into a small 'o' as the words escaped from his mouth. She blinked a few times and when she finally found her voice, she spoke.

"Y-you need, me?"

Kei studied her face.

No, too soon.

"I need you, to kill the time. It's too boring by myself." Kei wondered when he was going to get the 'Best Excuse' award.

Hikari's heart sunk. She wasn't sure why. "Look, I have to get home, I have a curfew and if I past that curfew I'm dead meat. You've met my parents, you know how they are." Hikari stated as a matter of fact.

"So, if your parents give permission, would you go with me?"

Hikari didn't like where this was going.

.

.

.

.

"You know, you didn't have to call them," the female said before taking another lick of her ice-cream. Kei shrugged.

"Well if I didn't, they won't know where you are."

"I suppose. But do you really want me to be with you?" Hikari hesitated. It was a dangerous question to ask.

Kei stared at her for a moment before chuckling.

"What's wrong with that, Miss rank two?"

Not that dangerous if you can avoid like this bastard. Hikari stood up. She faced him and pointed her free hand at him accusingly.

"What did I tell you about calling me that? You just never learn do you?"

But Kei didn't pay any attention to her. Instead, he licked his chocolate flavoured ice-cream. He relaxed onto the bench and crossed his legs.

"You do know that you're making scene right?" he said calmly but with his trademark smirk.

"I don't care! Stop calling me that!" roared back the girl. "I'll beat you, just watch!"

Finished with his dessert, Kei stood up and licked the tip of his fingers before wiping them with a tissue. "Okay, now what to do…"

"Don't ignore me!"

.

.

.

.

"DIE! DIE! DIE YOU HORRIBLE CREATURE!" Hikari laughed and moved the joystick around. Their argument stopped when Kei stuffed her mouth with cotton candy. Hikari didn't know where it came from after the ice-cream but she liked the taste of it so she stayed quiet and chewed.

Also, after finding out that Kei didn't have any idea what an arcade is, Hikari lead him to one on the top floor of the mall. Being tempted with the games inside, they decided to go in and spend a few minutes playing.

"Ha-ha! Take that you zombies!" Hikari pressed a red button and all of her enemies in the game exploded. She chuckled. She glanced at Kei's screen to check on him.

To her surprise, Kei had broken the joystick. Suddenly out of nowhere, Hikari began laughing so hard that she almost fell on the floor.

"You really are hopeless, you know." There can only be so much circumstances where Hikari could say those words and she had to admit, it felt good saying them.

"This game is hacked. Somebody hacked this game. That's why I can't win."

"Did somebody also hacked the joystick you're holding?" she laughed then shook her head, "Here, let me show you. Put you're right hand on the joystick and the other one just beside the buttons." Kei obeyed her without a word. It may sound crazy but this was new to him. With school and work on top of each other, he barely had time for fun and games.

For the first time, he was thankful to his father to let him go to the mall. He wasn't sure why though and had left him wondering.

Hikari placed a coin on the slot and the game finally begun. She watched Kei and nothing changed. He was still getting killed by zombies. Hikari let out a sigh. Without warning, she moved behind Kei.

"Here, do it like this." She placed her hands over his. Her hands held his hands tightly and whatever move she made, Kei was forced to do it as well.

Being in front of her, she couldn't see him blushing like a fujioshi reading yaoi. He can feel her chest press onto his back. Kei just remained silent, not paying attention to what was happening on the screen.

"HA! See, that wasn't so hard, was it?" Hikari stepped back and smiled. Kei nodded slowly and forced a smile too. A few tokens popped down from the machine. "Oh look! We got fifteen tokens."

"What are those?" he asked, ignoring the fading blush on his cheeks.

"Oh, if you have loads of these, you can trade them for something at the counter. I already have seventy-six, plus seventeen from earlier," Hikari said, happy with the progress she made.

"That's a lot," Kei commented looking at the 15 tokens in his hand. Hikari followed his gaze and laughed.

"Don't worry; we'll come back here so you can earn some more."

Kei smiled. "That'd be nice."

.

The two of them departed after getting smoothies. Kei insisted on giving Hikari a lift home but like always, she rejected his offer and told him that it's healthier to walk.

She came home and after doing her chores, she slid on her bed. She was surprisingly exhausted but was content with her eventful day.

By going to get the groceries, she met Hiro which led them to Megumi and Yahiro who was being spied by Jun and Ryuu. This led her to Takishima. She found out that Takishima was a complete dumbass at games. Good thing she was there to help him and-

"Oh my God." She quickly sat up, her face as red as a tomato. She remembered their position back at the arcade. It wasn't as romantic as the one you see in movies but nonetheless it was an intimate contact. Her chest was pressed against his back for God's sake.

Hikari shook her head, hands on her cheeks.

She was so concentrated on the game that she wasn't even aware that her body and Takshima's body were. . .

"NOOOOOOOOO!" Hikari couldn't even think of the whole situation properly without interrupting her own thoughts.

Suddenly, her mom barged into her room and began yelling at her.

"HIKARI! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT TIME IT IS? PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO SLEEP!" Her mom yelled and slammed the door closed, leaving Hikari quiet.

"Okay... Calm down Hikari. It wasn't that bad right? I'm pretty sure Kei didn't even notice," she whispered to herself trying to think back to her thoughts. Then, her face went even redder and buried her face down to her pillow.

She was going to have a very long weekend.

.

.

.

.

"HIKARI!" Akira shouted as she hugged the other female tightly. "I was so lonely without my Hikari-chan!" The other female on the other hand was awfully quiet and didn't respond to Akira's actions.

Tadashi laughed. "Ha! Bear woman just got rejected by Hikari!"

Akira growled and just like Tadashi said, she became the bear woman he asked for.

Noticing how quiet she was, Megumi began to scribble on her sketch pad. "Are you alright Hikari-chan?" Hikari merely nodded at Megumi's question.

"I am. I didn't get enough sleep during the weekend," she said, forcing a smile. She'll have to push the interrogation about her date with Yahiro later on.

All of the S.A. members were there except from the two: Hiro and Kei.

A few moments later, the two emerged with contrasting expressions. One of them wore a frown while the other a smile.

"What's wrong Kinose-san?" Jun asked.

"I hate Mondays," Hiro muttered under his breath and walked towards the table to sit. One would've thought that it was something serious. Since he was the one with the frown, all looked at Kei, who was smiling as he skipped through the greenhouse.

"What's wrong with him?" Tadashi asked as Kei reached the table and sat down beside Hikari.

"I don't know but he looks scary," Akira whispered into Tadashi's ears. Having the ears of an elephant, Kei answered them with a chuckle.

"Guess what?" he asked at particularly no one but his gaze focused on Hikari.

"What?" all of them asked in unison.

"I just found out who thrashed the greenhouse."

"Eehhhhhh?"
