A/N: This is only a drabble. So I thought it best to just add it to this collection, as it is after all post-RJ and the show itself has finally - blissfully - been post RJ for awhile now. It's an alternate ending of sorts to 7x07, because for a second there, after Lisbon said "I love you" and Jane was just staring at her, I thought this would be the rest of the dialogue. It wasn't (and I loved the entire episode as it was, just to be clear) but I wrote this down anyway.

06. Inside joke

"I love you."
She says it softly, her voice laced with happiness as the words seemingly float between them on the gentle autumn breeze.
She's unable to keep a smile from breaking through as he stares intently into her eyes.
The look on his face tells her more than a dozen words ever could.
"Say it again," he murmurs.
She lets out a short laugh, recognising her own words from months before.
"Say what again?" she deadpans, carefully schooling her features into a blank look.
When he lifts a single eyebrow before beaming back at her, the mirth in his eyes is close to being her undoing.
She leans in, one hand reaching up to cup his cheek, and softly puts her lips on his.
And as she kisses him, she has to admit that there is a heady kind of satisfaction in catching Jane off guard every once in awhile.
