Teddy/Rose

August 2009

Eleven-year-old Teddy climbed up the stairs of The Burrows to Uncle Ron's old room. Albus had come to him and said that Rose had ran up the stairs crying.

He found her laying face down on her father's old bed sobbing.

Sitting careful on the edge of the bed, he placed a hand on her back and began rubbing slow circles up and down. "Rosie, what's the matter?"

She sniffed, then wiped her nose on the pillow before sitting up to face him.

"J-James said that you weren't gonna come to my b-birthday p-party." Rose told him tears swimming in her eyes.

Teddy sighed knowing Rose's 4th birthday would be two days after Teddy would board the train for Hogwarts.

"I'm sorry, Rosie. I will be away at school." Teddy told her.

"You d-don't love me." She sobbed.

"That's not true." Teddy said feeling guilty as he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her onto his lap. He cuddled her as her little body shook with sobs.

"He-he s-said you would be h-here for h-his, Al's and Lily's birthdays, cause you l-loved the-them, cause you're the-their godbrother and n-not m-mine." Rosie said between sobs.

"James and Lily's birthdays are during the summer holidays and Al's is at Christmas. I won't be at school then, but I will miss everyone else's." He told her. "I'll even be at school for my birthday."

"S'not fair." She said wiping her nose on her sleeve.

"I know." He said as he kissed her temple. "Hey, I have an idea. How about we ask my grandmum and your mum and dad if we can have a special party just for you and me before I leave for school?" Teddy asked.

"Really?" She asked brightening at the prospect of having a special party with Teddy all to herself. "Just you and me?"

"Really." Teddy said.

"Oh, I love you!" She said as she wrapped her arm around his neck hugging him tightly before she jumped off his lap, grabbed his hand, and began to pull him toward the door.

"I love you, too, Rosie." He said with a laugh at how easily she could go from heartbroken to happy.
