Part V: Infiltration
Thordrity kneeled down and looked around at the giant arches and ramparts of the Citadel, almost completely dumbfounded. "Wow, incredible craftsmanship…" He stood up, and walked back towards the rest of the group. "Such a shame we'll have to blow it all up." They had set up a series of charges and explosives at key points on the side of the Citadel, just as the plan had mentioned. He grinned and lifted up his hand, and suddenly a small ember began to form at his palm, slowly growing larger as he poured more energy into it. Finally, he let the blast go, and as it barreled towards the explosives, the five of them dived to the ground, covering their heads and ears, waiting for the impending explosion.
It was like nothing Wuten had ever heard before; the explosives had blown, causing a huge hole inside the Citadel wall, as well as decimating anything that may have been in the general vicinity of the blast when Thordrity launched the fireball. When the smoke cleared, there was a clearly defined entrance in the wall of the Citadel which they could slip through.
"That was easier than I thought it would be," Sargerre sighed. "If I had known it would be that easy, I could've just made a hole myself."
Thordrity shot Sargerre a glare, then looked forward as they continued to walk down the corridor. "I have reason to believe we're not out of the clear yet, everyone; be on your guard."
"You fools should have stayed away; you might have survived a bit longer, and given me more of a reason to let you live!" a disembodied voice came from the Citadel itself. They froze in their steps, as the chill of the voice reached their ears.
"Arthas…" Wuten muttered. It was the voice of the same prince that had murdered his King years before. Only now it seemed… darker; almost as if what little humanity he had left had been cast aside a long time ago.
"Behind us!" Kassaris yelled out as a geist launched itself toward them. Kaigen quickly slammed his hammer into its torso, smashing it apart. They looked around; they were surrounded.
"The exit is cut off!" Wuten unsheathed his swords, slashing through undead left and right, while Thordrity fired off explosive fire spells throughout the onslaught. Sargerre and Kassaris worked as a team, him holding the undead down with dark tendrils formed by a voidwalker he summoned, and her slicing them apart with her dagger.
However, the undead were just outnumbering them too much, and they weren't able to keep it up forever.
Sargerre was the first to be taken; he was attacked from behind by a ghoul and pulled into the horde of undead, while Thordrity was the second, chained up by a large abomination. The third was Kaigen, and even with his powers of the Light, he was pulled away by the undead.
Kassaris and Wuten were the only two left standing.
"Kassaris…" Wuten muttered, as the undead legions began to close in.
They placed their backs to each other. "What is it?" She asked back.
"If we don't make it, I just want you to know…" his voice trailed off into a whisper, and Kassaris' eyes widened and turned around to face him, as they both were silently taken separate directions into the depths of the Citadel.
