A Shadows' Tale- Act 1
Rescue the Captured Agent
"Doctor... What's he up to this time."Shadow questioned out loud as he managed to jump the large wall of Eggman's base.
His hover shoes helping to skate over the snowy terrain with no trouble at all, although Shadow did wonder why the Doctor chose this cold location of out of all the others within the borders of Soleanna, but he did give him credit to the fact that it was the most secluded, but at the same time the most suspicious which was gave G.U.N the lead to Eggman's latest hideout he would use to go through with his master plan. Although frankly Eggman wasn't his main concern as it wasn't he his job to run wily-nily after the Doctor nor to stop whatever he was doing. That was more of the faker's position, so he had no reason to join in with the rest of the 'team' that he was apparently apart of.
He charged into the base full speed ahead as he forcefully defeated the enemies that were unlucky enough to be his path as they appeared left and right. They had the power to make the sirens going off and alert the Doctor that there was an intruder in his base so it was important, however simple to take them out with his superior homing attack and his access Chaos powers.
Carefully trekking through the snow to avoid the high searchlights that covered the entire area of the outside of the base which made his job more difficult, but at least his was more than capable of dealing with the foes that came his way. He suddenly slid to a stop when released he had found the entrance to Eggman's lair, but then frowned at the sight of it.
"Damn, its locked, there should be a hidden switch somewhere." Shadow observed, knowing the Doctor's way of creating obstacles. If you could call them obstacles that is.
The black hedgehog walked towards to a supposed dead end until he looked up and saw two aerial robots. He used his initiative to easily homing attack the drones which led him up to a lone cliff which ('Surprise. Surprise.' Shadow thought while rolling his eyes.) had the switch hidden the snow.
"Just as I thought." He said outwardly, as he activated the switch that open the door. He flawlessly jumped down and proceeded into base only to be ambushed by a group enemies with its only order to guard the switch that would grant Shadow the access of getting him further into base whilst also getting him closer to completing his mission. He beat the weak robots with ease as skated through an empty corridor which surprisingly didn't seem to be under surveillance and when on to find the capture agent he was sent for.
"I've managed to get out of the base, but security is really high" The bat said to herself as she flew watchfully, trying not to get detected by the searchlights with tons of robot surrounding the perimeter. She landed on a higher plain to take a breather, camouflaging herself within the snow. The agent let out a huff whilst smoothing out her fur. She deserved it.
'This mission is going to be harder than I thought. All I needed to do get the scepter and get outta' here'.
She cursed Eggman for his upgraded in security after the many infiltrations as of late.
'The Doctor must really be doing something big if he has made his base a trouble for even me to get though. What could he be up to?' She thinks suspiciously whilst looking at the item she was desperately asked to retrieve. Although she wouldn't lie. She was the best one for the job. If she could get through G.U.N's Prison Island. She could get through Eggman's base easy, however right now it was proving to be a challenge.
She stared ahead to finally see a guarded door that would lead her freedom, but then noticed the massive amount searchlights that could potentially hold up her exit.
"I guess I have to put these bombs to use." She said as she flew above the all seeing searchlights to avoid being seen and threw the bombs she had in her arsenal of at them one by one. A few seconds later they exploded leaving only darkness in the area and cracked bulbs.
She then finally glided down and came across the exit.
"Eggman is no match for me." She said mockingly as she ran through the open to escape only to find...
"Shadow" She echoed. "What are you doing here?"
"It was a request from the president." Her partner coldly stated as he went on the enemies that were in his way.
'Typical Shadow. Work first. Friends second' Rouge thought. What a coincidence he was the agent sent to help her escape safely.
'I how much the commander had to beg for him to come and rescue me'. She began to follow Shadow before she got left in the dust, but he unexpectedly stopped at the sight of an armed buggy foolishly left unguarded.
He rolled his eyes again, "Stupid Doctor."
He investigated the car to make sure it was safe let alone check if was working. "It looks like it still runs." His deep voice got Rouge's attention and directed her to get into vehicle. She got into passenger seat and turned her direction to Shadow who was starting up the engine.
"What's the plan hon'?." She said close to flirtatiously. The hedgehog caught it immediately and rolled his eyes for the second time today, but he was used to it considering how many times she does this when they were paired up on missions. It was just part of her 'unique' personality he had somewhat grown to tolerate.
"To destroy all the searchlights. We won't be able to get out without getting detected if we don't." He explained to her plainly as he was driving and aimed one the rockets at a searchlight and it crashed down the ground with one hit, its wooden structure falling down with a loud CRASH.
Shadow drove up the snowy hills, the buggy built to be strong and sturdy to be able to travel to travel on such harsh conditions. The ebony hedgehog concentrated heavily on driving. The faster he could destroy these searchlights, he would be able to leave and go about his own personal business in solitude as he liked it. He still didn't understand why out of all the other agents at G.U.N, he was forced to go rescue some random person. Well, not just anyone. He knew Rouge quite well, but how the "best spy in the world" couldn't get out of the mad Doctor's, he wouldn't understand or question just to keep the female from having a hissy fit.
After shooting down more than half of the searchlights, the two agents ran into trouble as more robots more alert to stand in their way. Not in the mood nor bothered to deal with these pathetic things Eggman considers powerful machinery he simply ran through them like a sane maniac, running over most of them over, while the robots still left standing shot at them from a distance.
"Well, aren't you are safe driver." Rouge said sarcastically.
Shadow ignored her statement and began to take notice at the fact that the robots were starting to actually damage the helpful buggy as bullet holes could be clearly seen at the back of the vehicle. Shadow shifted gears to make the buggy go faster to try and escape the ambush to keep the car and themselves unharmed as possible. Rouge now holding on to her seat for dear life as her partner in crime drove faster and faster while shockingly, still efficiently able to take down the searchlight at will even after hitting a few bumps in the road. Literally.
They finally reached the exit as after Shadow shot down the last of those troublesome searchlights that have been annoying both of them since they have single-handedly infiltrated the base. 'Good riddance.'
They both exited the buggy with the white bat unable to properly stand for a second. She gave Shadow a hard glare.
"Next time I'll walk, but yet fly" She joked. "But not bad for a quick rescue mission."
Shadow shrugged not caring any less. "Guess that was alright."
He led his adversary through the door that they were both hoping to reach to get back to civilization, but instead a large arena like place outside in the peaceful snow, only silence filled the area until Rouge piped up a question.
"Don't you want to know what this is?" She held up the item she was told to retrieve. The reason why both of them were here in the first place. A small, silver scepter with angel shaped wings. It had purple energy running through it and had a strangely dark aura around it. Shadow turned around and noticed these features and soon felt himself shudder inwardly at the sight of it.
Familiar...
"My assignment was to rescue you thing more." He refused to get caught up in a evil sorcery or 'save the world' nonsense this object could potentially bring.
"Fine." Rouge replied and rolled her eyes when Shadow wasn't looking. "With you, it's always business."
Both putting the suspiciously evil scepter behind them as their least important priority at the moment and mainly focused and finally focused on trying to just leave this God-forsaken place.
However to the anti heroes dismay they heard a noisy rumbling sound, making them both shake along with the ground. Soon more robots came down to block their exit once again.
"It seems they don't want us to leave." Rouge said obviously, clutching the specter tighter to make sure it wouldn't fall into the wrong hands. The hedgehog grunts as a response.
"Let's just get this over with." Shadow put on a battle ready stand and then a loud RAW!
Both Shadow and Rouge looked around for the culprit and soon a large mechanical monster, covered in metal amour in the shape of a dog-like creature came jumping down into the fight. 'Guess the Doctor finally noticed we were in his base'
"The Doctor's guard dog." He muttered. This was going to take awhile if he was careless. "But I need to get through here."
Finding no other choice, but fight the Doctor's lackey to get past, he ran straight ahead toward the machine and tried to get in front of it with his signature speed which was just as equal if not greater than that fake hedgehog's.
The monster like a dog moved every spastically as if it was on a sugar high and was practically 50 times bigger than Shadow in size, but size meant nothing to the ultimate life since he has handled bigger and stronger enemies in the past. This was another one of Eggman's poor machines.
They finally managed to the reach the Cerberus as it at last stopped to take a breather. Shadow took this chance and tried to homing attack it, but the monster reflected it without him even touching him.
"I see... the amour on his head is protecting the weak point. I have to get this armor off." The monster suddenly crashed his protected head down towards Shadow, but he swiftly dodged out of the way.
"The front is too dangerous Shadow." Rouge informed.
She had notice the back of the robot had a pointy tail that somewhat resembled a grind rail. "Shadow over here! Grind on its tail."
The black hedgehog nodded as a thank you. The robot was still on the move at the point, but because of Shadow's speed he was able to catch up with it he was able to successfully jump on it tail and grind on it with his special shoes. Once he travelled up the Cerberus body. He automatically fell on the horn on top of his head. The 'dog' felt this began running wildly trying to get the hedgehog off him so he could flatten him, but Shadow held on. He wasn't about to go down without a fight.
He started to conduct a plan in his mind, trying not to fall of the gargantuan.
'There's nothing I could make him run into.' They were in a closed space as if it were a prison ground to keep anyone from escape with its high walls. The only thing that could be strong enough to pierce though the amour could only be... 'The wall' He realised.
He then tried his best to steer the Cerberus by the horn, but he still would go out of control at the most annoying times and turned around on purpose when he got close to the wall. "Do what I tell you to!" He yelled impatiently to the incoherent machine.
Eventually Shadow managed to control him long enough to make him run into the steel wall, which broke off his amour which Shadow observed as he had promptly jumped off the robot to avoid being in the way of the wreckage. The Cerberus was now looking very bare and vulnerable with his much needed amour.
"Looks like his amour's gone. Now it's my turn." He went in from behind to and do the same method of attack as he grinded on the tail of the robot and held on the horn once again. The robot being programmed fairly intelligently noticed this and began to change up his movements becoming more rampant and less evident in a way a real dog would to try and protect itself from harm. It was a hard fight, but soon Shadow was strong enough to outsmart the Cerberus and lead it into the wall once again and leapt off the robot.
The machine began to malfunction and soon shut itself down due to the damage it had taken, with another and final loud RAW! as its last words.
Rouge ran over to him. "Your finally done. Looked like that robot was tough."
"It wasn't even a challenge." The Ultimate life responded confidently, but with no emotion as if it was worth and gained a playful, "Sure it wasn't" back.
"Let's just get out of here." Shadow pointed towards the true exit.
The automatically opened for Shadow and Rouge as it lead them to an empty room with a teleport pad. With this looking like their only way of escape, they stepped on the pad and let it take to wherever it would.
They arrived shortly in another small room, but this one wasn't empty. Both agents took a second to observe their surroundings. It was some kind of control room with a mother computer inside with a whole map of a region on the big screen.
'Could his must be where Eggman was the whole time. Question is- Where could he have disappear to now?'
His thoughts were interrupted by Rouge who decided to fill him in about where they were since he get a big brief of the mission, let alone the place he was deployed in.
"Ah, Soleanna is the city of water. It has a constitutional monarchy you know. One of the last in the world" Rouge explained remembering the information she was given about this place. "The primary industries are industries are tourism and crafting advanced machinery" All that information rolling off her tongue, although Shadow wasn't really paying attention as he drifted off away from her and began to observe a painting hanging in the corner of the room. An image of a young woman in royal clothing.
"That's the current monarch. Princess Elise the Third." Rouge noticing the interest the hedgehog had in the painting.
"Why does Eggman's base lead to a place like this?" Shadow questioned.
"How should I know? I just followed orders and retrieved the item." The bat soberly referring to the scepter.
"Anyway, I have a favour to ask of you." This got Shadow's attention he folded his arms and continued to listened to her request.
"Could you escort me to the G.U.N. rendezvous point?" She asked politely.
"Where is it?"
She pointed in the directed of the virtual map of the region that was highlighted red. 'I wonder who did that?'
"It's the ancient castle of Soleanna in Kingdom."
Shadow thought about for a second, he had more important things to do and all his mission required him to do was to bring back Rouge safely and that was it. He didn't have to do anything else.
"Fine." He huffed. "I'll take you there, but after that you're on your own."
"Of course, I already know to expect that from you." She replied teasingly and skipping ahead with the dark hedgehog not far behind exiting the room into the shining sun after long last.
He didn't want to be a part of the action, or take part in an epic adventure, but little did he know he was already involved as scepter continued to irk him.
Finally done. Sorry I haven't updated anything like forever, just been losing my self confidence and faith in society, but I'm over in and hope and can started update more now and making promises I can't keep.
This the longest chapter I've written ever and I can't believe I actually bothered to describe to the blandness that is White Acropolis. And please tell me if Shadow or Rouge is OOC or not
But enough about me, Shadow and Rouge are on their way to Kingdom Valley to meet Shadow's lover- I mean look alike next time.
