Chapter 4: Like Normal People

Annie and Auggie followed Joan into her office for a full brief on the mission. Annie barely paid attention to what Joan was saying. She barely remember Joan dismissing them but one moment she is sitting down and the next her body is getting up. She kind of felt like it was an out of body experience. Annie and Auggie both parted ways and went to their places to get the things they needed for the mission. Annie told him she would pick him up at his place so they could head to the airport together.
Annie arrived at Auggie's apartment and went up to get him. She knocked on the door and heard Auggie yell it's open so she walked in to see him just putting his shirt on. "So Mr. Quinn how does it feel to be married to me?" Annie asked him.
"Well come here Mrs. Quinn and I will show you." Auggie said with flashing his mega watt smile. Annie walked over to him and kissed and the kiss deepened into something more and she had to pull away before clothes were coming off.
"I would love to continue this but I don't think we want to miss our flight." Annie said. Auggie nodded his head and grabbed his messenger bag and his technology and they left his apartment and headed for the air port. When they arrived at the air port Annie got their tickets as Auggie sat a table with their coffees.
"Bad news, one of us has a middle seat I'd say I'd flip you for it, but do you really need a window?" Annie said.
"You can have it. I am going back in the field I would sit in cargo if I to." Auggie said as Annie gave him his ticket and Annie took her coffee and sipped it.
"Well it is time for us to get a move on it." Annie said and Auggie stood up and unfolded his cane and walked along side Annie.
"So how do you like working for Lena?"
"It is ok I guess. I wish we were still working together."
"Me too but tell me how is your new handler?" Auggie asked
"Well I don't really have a handler. I report directly to Lena and we work things out together and form missions together. I am basically going on instinct." Annie said.
"Oh wow. So you're out there alone?"
"No I am not out there completely alone but I do have to be extra careful." Annie said and then their flight was called and they boarded the plane.
Annie and Auggie were sitting at a little café waiting for red rover. "I wish we could spend more time doing this." Annie said
"What working in the field?" Auggie asked
"No just sitting down and enjoying each others company." Annie said
"Like regular people."
"Yeah I guess."
"Since when do you think we are like normal people?" Auggie asked
"I know we aren't normal but it would be nice just to act normal for one day."
"Well how about this one day in the future we take two days off of work and do regular people stuff. How does that sound to you." Auggie said
"That sounds wonderful Auggie."
"Well then it is settled but for right now we have a job to finish."
"And speaking of that job our contact is twelve minutes late. If it was the old days you would tell me to pull the rip chord."
"And you being you would not listen to me and do what you want." Auggie says and Annie just shakes her head and giggles. They are waiting when their waitress comes back and hands Annie a note. Annie opens the note and reads it and then she looks at the waitress and asks her who gave the note to her. The waitress tells her and points in the direction of where she saw the man.
"Change of plans honey it seems that our friend wants to meet somewhere else." Annie said grabbing their things. They made it to the payphone and they made the exchange.
They got to the safe so Auggie could see the work that red rover had done. "I got to tell you I imagined a more romantic honey moon Mr. Quinn. You turned our bed into a work station. You could have at least carried me across the threshold."
"Uh hu Our flight doesn't leave for another four hours I needed a place to run diagnostics." Auggie said.
"Are you even listening to me." Annie said
"You asked why we were here in the safe house didn't you?" Auggie said
"No I didn't actually. The first thing a guy does as soon as he gets married is stops listening. Or so I told. So honey how much longer is this going to take?"
"Well babe about ten to fifteen minutes. But you have got to come over here and see this."
"Okay well Mr. Quinn what am I looking at." Annie said
"Poetry no actually I take that back it is more like sheet music red rover is using a basic building blocks of the stuxnet virus but this thing has so much more soul its got a melody."
"I will have to take your word for it." Annie said
"Zero data tags, man in the middle attacks, modular sophisticated it's like miles of this kind of blue print." Auggie said
"You should have told me you were such a dork when you proposed. I might have said no."
"Whatever you say dear."
"Just hurry up I am ready to go home and sleep in my own bed." Annie says
"I know and I am just running one last test." As Auggie said that Annie's phone rang.
"it's Joan." Annie said as she answered her phone. "Hello Joan."
"What's your twenty?"
"We are about to leave for the air port why?"
"There has been a new development on the ground. The Canadians that we rounded up have been found murdered."
"They were suppose to be in custody."
"They were and in different facilities even but there were two separate security breaches coordinated perfectly. Annie it is no longer safe for you and Auggie in Barcelona."
"Understood" Annie said and then she hung up the phone.
"What is going on?" Auggie asked
"We have to get out of here." Annie said and they headed to the elevators and on their way they passed a man. The man knocked on their door and then Annie and Auggie got in the elevator and as the doors were shutting the man got in the elevator with them. The maid got out and then the man pulled out a gun and Auggie and him fought. He knocked the man and they got out of the elevator on the next floor and headed for the exit door. Once they were outside Annie started helping Auggie he shrugged her off and told to clear each level for him it would be easier that way. Then out of nowhere a man came and attacked Auggie. Annie saw it and got scared for Auggie she knew he could handle himself but she couldn't help herself she had to go help him. But as she began to climb up to Auggie a man yelled got it and then the man attacking Auggie left. Annie turned around and tried to Aim the gun but the man left her sight. Annie ran up to Auggie and made sure he was ok. They then called Joan and told her about everything and Auggie told her about the virus. "We cant get the package back." Annie said
"No we cant but we can find red rover and turn him so he could help us." Auggie said as they were still on the phone with Joan.
"Now we don't have enough time or man power to find red rover."
"We can talk to the waitress and see what she can remember about the man she saw. It is worth a shot."
"No it is a shot in the dark. This is on me I sent you in there with faulty intel. I want you to get on a plane and come home." Joan said and Auggie hung up the phone.
"I see a cab stand ahead." Annie says
"I cant believe you are doing this. Since when do you follow orders much less Joan's orders. Is it because of me. Do you think I cant handle myself out in the field."
"No and you know me better than that Auggie."
"Then why Annie tell me why did you come back up the stairs for me huh can you tell me that."
"Because Auggie you were down."
"You should have gotten the package that was our mission Annie. I don't want to go back to the way things were I want to move forward with my life but the only person I have standing in my corner is Joan and I can't let her down."
"What about me you have me."
"Do I Annie since you came back from Marrakesh you have been a little off standish with me. I don't know what happened but now is not the time to discuss that. We have to finish our mission."
"No we have to go home. Joan wants us to go home."
"Joan wants a win." Auggie says and then Annie's phone rings. She looks at it and sees that it is Lena.
"I have to take this." Annie says. "Hello."
"Hey Annie have you boarded your plane back stateside yet?" Lena asks
"No not yet."
"Ok great well listen we have traced Simon to Munich and I was wondering if you can meet him there."
"Do you want me to go there."
"Why not let it be a spur of the moment thing. Contact him and see if you can go and meet up with him."
"Ok I will do my best. Did you find anything on the sweep drive."
" No but get intimate enough with a man and he will tell you all his secrets. Annie call me and tell me your final plans."
"Will do thanks Lena." Annie said and hung up her phone. She turned around to get Auggie but he was gone. That man sometime infuriated her. Luckily she knew he was going to find that waitress so she did the same. She went to the café and got the waitress' name and then looked her up.
"Your ten minutes behind. I thought I taught you better than that." Auggie said
"Yeah well I had to explain to my boss why I wasn't getting on a plane but hey I guess you know the perks of being your own boss." Annie said more bitterly than she wanted to but he kind of deserved it.
"Look I am sorry about what I said."
"It's ok and I am sorry I am being a little overly cautious but that is because I love you and I already lost a friend this week and I cant lose you too. I am starting to wonder how many lives we have until our luck runs out."
"I love you to Annie but I have to finish this."
"I know so why don't we finish this mission Solider boy." Annie said and then that brought back the smile on Auggie's face.
"So we have had our first fight. Now we are like a real married couple." Auggie said
"OK come on here she comes. Auggie I hope you are right." Annie said as they approached Pilar. They talk to Pilar and go into her place.
"Look we just want to know what you remember about the man who gave you the note." Annie asks.
"I am letting you in but don't mess with my shit." Pilar says
"Do I hear a humming noise." Auggie asks
"I don't how to describe exactly what I am seeing." Annie says and lets go of Auggie's hand so he can "see" for himself.
"No need I am already there. " Auggie says
"If you came to get your money back too bad no refunds." Pilar says
"No no no we don't want our money back we just came looking for you red rover." Auggie says Annie and Auggie sit down while Pilar does what she needs.
"Just so you know your profile was one hundred percent wrong." Annie says to Auggie
"Just watch me I am going to turn her." Auggie says
"So how much trouble am I in?" Pilar asks
"Right now none but I am sure Interpol would love to I.d. you." Annie says.
"Why did you target the U.S." Auggie asks
"Because they asked me to. I was just happy to get noticed." Pilar says
"Why did you get into it Pilar." Auggie asks
"Honestly because my ex-boyfriend was into it and I thought he would be impressed but instead he got jealous and left me for some gamer girl and I wanted to show him he made a mistake." Pilar says bitterly. "Excuse my reach." Pilar says as she reaches across Auggie to get her shirt. Auggie gets a weird face and turns to Annie.
"What's going on?" He asks
"Nothing" Annie says and rolls her eyes.
"I don't know if you know how talented you are but you are amazing. I would go as far as to say you are a lead programmer."
"I wouldn't say lead." Pilar says
"Oh I beg to differ now I know you created the malware so I am guessing you could disarm it." Auggie says
"Yeah I can." Pilar says
"You should come with us and create an anti-virus." He says
"And then what."
"I don't know but we could use someone with your talents." Auggie says
"I never pictured myself working for the C.I.A." Pilar says
"You're a natural Pilar." Auggie says
"Does that crap actually work on people." Pilar asks
"We will double the money we gave you if you come with us." Annie says
"No I want it tripled." Pilar says
"Deal now you have five minutes to get what you need. Oh and assume you wont be coming back." Annie said a little pissed because she would like to be home instead of here.
"I am ready and so you can tell your goons to stand down." "Pilar says
"What goons?" Auggie asks. Then Annie sees the guys on the screen.
"They are not our goons those are the guys that were after us." Annie says
"Come this way with me." Pilar says. They get out of the building then they see two guys coming after them. Auggie pushes Annie and tells her to go she runs down an alley way. They run into the street the Auggie hears a car and pulls Annie back. They lost Pilar but they look and see the car is turning around. Annie shoots at the car and hit's the car's tire and the car wrecks. Then Annie sees Pilar coming around with the same motorcycle they dropped the money into earlier. Pilar takes them to the airport where they get on a plane back to the U.S.
"So that was fun." Auggie says to Annie
"Yeah just another day in the life." Annie says and then their plane lands. They get off and see Joan waiting for them. She doesn't look happy.
"It is one thing to breach protocol when you are under me directly but it is another under these circumstances." Joan says to Annie
"I still can't believe you people fly commercial." Pilar says.
"And just who is this?" Joan asks
"Pilar meet Joan, Joan met Pilar also known as red rover. Pilar Joan will now be your handler." Auggie says. Annie and Auggie stand there as Joan and Pilar walk away. Pilar is telling her all her demands and Annie turns to Auggie.
"They make an interesting pair." Annie says
"Just like us." Auggie says
"I don't know who I am more concerned for Pilar or Joan." Annie says
"Joan most definitely. So how about I take you home where you can sleep in my bed and get all the rest you want." Auggie says
"That sounds amazing but Lena has me on another plane." Annie says
"Where to this time." Auggie asks
"I don't know she sent me the ticket information to my phone." Annie says
"What about clothes and all that good stuff." Auggie asks
"She has a place stocked for me." Annie says
"Well I wish you were coming with me but promise me that you will come back to me." Auggie says
"I promise Auggie. I love you I want you to know that." Annie says
"I love you too." Auggie says. Then Annie tells him where to go to get a cab. Once she sees that he is gone and out of ear shot she pulls out her phone and calls him. "Simon I am taking some vacation time and I wanted to know if we could see each other again." Annie says feeling so guilty at the moment.
"I am in Munich so why you don't you come here so we can be together." Simon says
"I love Munich and I will see you soon." Annie says and heads for her plane. She arrives in Munich and she goes to the place Lena set up for to change and then she heads over to Simon's hotel suite. She knocks on the door. He opens the door and lets her in. She kisses him and he leads her to the bed.
So here it is I know once again I am terrible at updating but hey I am trying. At least it is a long chapter. over 3,000 words. This chapter went totally different that I had imagined but it also turned out better than I imagined. So please REVIEW I love reading them and the keep the creative juices flowing.
