All I'm going to say is that school is hell this semester. Or at least one of my classes is and it's just been very stressful. Panic attacks were involved... especially this past week. So yeah. But I'm back! And I just want to thank the people that review because I would probably just give up on writing this without y'all! You rock! :)

Chapter 8:

Lola stabbed at her fruit salad watching the scene near the coffee cart, oblivious to her friends' conversation beside her. She watched as the sophomore flirted with him and he just went along with it. It was confusing. He hadn't even gone on a proper date with a girl in weeks, months even! At least, not that she knew of.

Why do I even care? she thought, stabbing another pineapple with her fork.

Her eyes narrowed as he paid for the girl's coffee, nodding along to something she was saying. The brunette flipped her hair as she gave him a smile before walking off to her friends. Lola averted her eyes as he turned and began making his way to their table.

"You have something against that fruit salad?"

Lola looked up across the table at Michael. "No, why?"

Quinn raised a brow. "Well, you've been stabbing it violently for the last ten minutes."

"Who's been stabbing what?" Logan asked as he rejoined the three.

"Lola's been stabbing her fruit salad for no reason," Quinn said.

Lola rolled her eyes. "I wasn't doing it on purpose. I was just thinking."

"About…?"

"Nothing. I don't know. It's not important."

Quinn watched her best friend curiously. The scientist could tell there was something bothering her. It made her realize how little the two have spent time together over the past few months. She used to be able to know exactly what Lola was thinking, and now she had no clue.

Michael, oblivious to the girls, nodded toward Logan with a smile. "So, did you get that girl's number?"

"Yeah, but I told her I wasn't really interested," Logan replied with a shrug.

"Dude, why not? She was hot!"

"Yeah, but-"

"Hey there my peeps."

"Hi Stacey."

"Hey."

"So those kids over there said I should leave," Stacey went on, not even phased by pervious event, "so can I sit here with you?"

The four looked around, no one wanting to really argue against their classmate sitting with them.

"Sure."

"I guess."

"Okay."

"Whatever."

"Anyway," Michael said as Stacey sat herself next to Logan, earning a glare from Lola. He looked from the girls to Logan. "So, why didn't you keep her number?"

"Yeah, it's not like you to turn down a date proposal," Quinn chimed in.

Logan shrugged. "I don't know. I-I guess I just don't feel like going on a bunch of meaningless dates anymore." He looked up at the two staring at him, almost like they were looking at a purple creature with three eyes and an extra limb. "What?"

"Who are you and what have you done with Logan Reese?" Quinn asked.

Stacey edged herself closer to Logan. "It would mean everything if we went on a date Logan."

"Yeah… that's not gonna happen," Logan said moving his chair away from Stacey. Across the table Lola fought a smirk, keeping her eyes on her fruit salad. Logan looked back at Michael and Quinn. "What's wrong with that?"

"Nothing."

"It's just, I don't know, weird," Michael said.

"Yeah, not that I'm complaining," Quinn said, "but why the sudden change in attitude toward girls?"

A flashback of the smell and taste of piña-colada flavored lip-gloss hit him. He stole a glance at the half-Latina across from him before pulling himself back to reality. "Uh, no-nothing. Just wanted a change, I guess." He took another drink of his coffee, trying to avoid looking at his friends. "I'm gonna go. I gotta be… not here. Later."

"See ya."

"Later."

"Bye Logan! I'm available if you change your mind!"

Lola watched as the curly haired boy took off as quick as he could. She couldn't make heads or tails of what was going on with him the past few weeks. She looked at her friends who were just as confused as she was.

"So… that was weird," Michael said.

"Only a little," Quinn said before continuing her lunch.

"So I was working on another sculpture using only cotton swabs and white glue and I…"

"I'm gonna go," Lola said standing up suddenly.

"Where? Class doesn't start for another twenty minutes," Quinn said.

Lola put her bag over her shoulder. "I just remembered something I have to do. See ya."

She took off before she could hear her friends say their confused goodbyes. This had gone on long enough for her and she was going to find out what was going on. She walked in the direction she had seen Logan walking off to and could see his retreating figure heading toward the basketball courts. She quickened her pace, making sure she didn't lose sight of him. He sat on a bench, dropping his bag to his side and placing his head in his hands.

Lola slowed down and calmly walked up to him. She sat down next to him, causing him to look at her.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, not in a typical Logan way.

Lola sighed. "What's going on with you?"

Logan scoffed. "What do you mean? Nothing's going on. Everything's fine."

"Not based off of what just happened at lunch," Lola said. "And what about the past two weeks?"

"What are you talking about?"

"You've been acting weird."

"No I haven't."

Lola could feel herself tensing up. "Yes you have! You've been distant, spacey, nervous, and I think you've been avoiding me."

"I've been busy."

"Sitting on a bench and shooting hoops after class is busy?"

"I have to keep practicing, even in the off-season."

"Why won't you tell the truth?" Lola crossed her arms. "Something's up with you and I'm not going to stop asking you until you tell me."

Logan stood up. "You want to know what's been up with me?" Lola nodded, giving him a 'duh' look. "It's you!"

"What?"

"Yeah," he began pacing. "It's everything; your perfume, your laugh, that kiss, your piña-colada lip-gloss… just everything!"

Lola stood up. "Wait, what are you getting at?"

"Don't you get it?" he said facing her, his eyes locking with hers. This must be how Chase felt, he thought. Logan let out a breath, calming himself. "I'm in love with you!"
