Mizu: Welcome to our first book i will now get Konton to explain.
Konton: Mizu is crazy, and this is a fantasy book. now what else...
Mizu: Talk about the book.
Konton: We have a fine, dashing, and in my opinion suicidal main character. This book begins with him starting the process of becoming a vampire in the Vomain empire. with this we shall let you begin reading about his journey. Oh and we'll be joining you on the ride.
Mizu:... He starts off as an orphan with his twin brother but this will quickly change, i am too lazy to explain so read for yourself.
Konton: I forgot will anyone die in this chapter?
Chapter one
"Wake up Erik." my twin brother Andrew says. I stand up just for him to pull me off the bed and have me land head first on the ground. I sit up and give him eyes of what the hell are you doing because I am too tired to say anything.
"Gee I know we are about to get placed into a school but at best we are going to end up as butlers for rich houses and that isn't anything to be proud of." I say almost mumbling.
"I am not interested in that I want to join a school for fighting even if I can't get very high into the military, a footman is good enough for me." Andrew nearly shouts.
"If you do that you'll probably die in year or two." I state but he ignores my comment because he wants to fight.
"They wouldn't expect a footman to know how to use a bit of holy magic." he says. I look at him and notice he trembled a bit at the mention death. Well at least he's determined. But still he'll probably die out there and that meant that I'd lose the last of my family left. Then again we haven't been in a war for about 10 years.
"So why did you wake me." I ask. Usually the one that had worse sleeping habits was him unless he wanted…
"I want a duel." he says. I should have known. "How about we can use magic and swords." he adds. I barley ever research so I'd lose hands down if we added magic into the fray.
"No magic please." I plead. He puts a hand on his chin as if he's considering. But I know he'll agree because I wouldn't battle him anyway.
"Fine!" he says in a defeated gesture. Maybe I'd enjoy this a bit more. I get up and head to the kitchen I grab a piece of bread and marvel at the stew. We must have had a good catch to be having this feast.
"Okay I'm ready." I say as I finish my food. Why he loved training with me I had no idea.
"Be ready to concede defeat." he says. I'd never give up until it was over. He might have won twice as many battles against me but I still won the last one.
"I'd say in your dreams but if I lose this I'd look like an idiot." I tell him. I was defiantly not as hot-blooded as my brother and half the time I let him win. Strategy is better than might. A knight could easily overwhelm a horde of the undead that the necromancers controlled, but if that necromancer had planed accordingly he'd easily win. I better use my offensive capabilities since I have two swords compared to his one broadsword.
"Let the match begin." Andrew says. I slash at his head. He blocks it with ease but I've already started a slash on the other side. He spins around bring the sword in a collision course then slashes in a downward ark. I roll to the side then lung back striking with my right sword. He parries it but I swing my left sword and bring back my left. He jumps backward.
"I think I just got the upper hand." I say. He then lunges. He never learned about being goaded by his opponent. I dodge it then put my foot on his sword. I then swing my swords at him but he flips me by pushing me off his sword. I knew I wouldn't win in a battle of strength. I spot a group of kids hooting and cheering. I turn to face my opponent to see he's up in my face. He lunges and I do a barrel role in mid air. I grab his head and swing behind him. Well I never knew I could do that. But he pulls me down with him.
"What was that." one of the guys asked us. I did something like floated above him for a second.
"A draw." I tell him. I then pick up my swords and walk away. I might have been able to get behind him if I had continued floating like that. But being able to float in the air meant one thing; I had become skinnier than I already was.
Compared to me Andrew had a more masculine build making him stronger but because I was smaller I was more agile. We both had blonde hair but I covered my left eye with my hair.
"Gee Erik you were always agile but that was pretty impressive" Michael. Michael stands out as the ring leader of the kids in this town. But of course there were still loners such as me and Andrew.
"Yeah well you aren't as agile as me or strong and Andrew, you don't even have the brains to back you up." I say taunting Michael. He picks up a hammer which was more effective than these dull swords.
He swings it at my temple I just duck and stick out my right foot which he trips on. I then butt the flat side of my sword on his head. He quickly stands up and makes an angry face which probably made me lose interest as I yawned.
"For such a high class guy you seemed to have been embarrassed by an orphan." I say taunting him some more. He charges at me again this time I jump and flip midair and then I kick him in the back causing him to fall. I land on my feet smiling at him.
"Actually I shouldn't be behaving like animals, such as you." Michael says dusting himself off. He walks to his group and gives them a look asking why they didn't help.
"You know Erik that was pretty impressive." Andrew says to me. "I hear there is going to be a library member coming here in a few weeks, besides I think with skills like that you can get into any school."
"All you care about is catching cute girl's eyes." I say closing my eyes and looking up. Me and Andrew are twins who so happened to be abandoned at birth.
"Come on what more could a girl want than a guy with blonde hair and green eyes." Andrew said with sarcasm knowing that everybody had their preferences.
"Somebody with brains to match his bronzes I guess." I say walking towards the bridge that I often hanged out at. Andrew snorted as if he thought bronze was all you needed in life.
"Everybody has brains but not everybody has bronzes." Andrew said looking triumphant. Sadly neither he nor Michael actually has a brain that worked.
"I meant brains that worked." I say Andrew stopped and stared at me as if I just signaled the end of the world. I ended up with a smug smile walking down the streets, today had been a good day with beating up Michael and Andrew.
"We are headed to the library." Andrew said as he pulled me towards the library. In every city or town there was at least a church and a library, but depending on how important the city was and where they stood on the library or church debate their library or church would be bigger.
"Why always the library, can't we just head towards the bridge." I say complaining. Just because I didn't like the library didn't mean I hated books and knowledge, I just hated how they could control the books and knowledge.
We ended up right in front of the library. Luckily our church and library is the same size so we basically said we were natural. However I'm pretty certain that he's going to try persuading us to join his side. The only problem is our other guest. With a church and library member in the same village I bet we'll see a fight. Sometimes they can really be childish. So now where do I hide?
"Erik you're slugging behind." Andrew says. I look up to see we're in the library. There is one place no one would go. It is in the vampire history section. When I get there after ditching Andrew I notice a book that's dropped down. I don't understand why I pick up after people.
"Beast I shall slay you." says a figure right beside me. So a hallucination spell is on this book, might as well finish this chapter.
"But my name is king Arhiman." says the white haired vampire standing on a house.
"You are a beast that has slain many men in your years as king." says the figure that I think is a knight. I then notice something in the bushes coming towards us.
"So old Conrad is here." King Arhiman says. If Conrad is who I think he is, it was a good idea to look at this chapter.
"I'm not that old." says a man stepping out of the bushes, with about fifteen undead behind him. "You're a lot older." he remarks.
"To me you're both a lot older." the knight retorts. He seems a bit uneasy. Then again it seems more like they're having a playful banter than a fight to the death. It almost seems like a family reunion and the family so happens to hate each other.
"I guess I am going to have to kill you both at once." the knight says taking a stance. King Arhiman crouches and hisses. The necromancer frowns and leans back against a tree.
The knight jumps in swinging his long sword. He was obviously inexperienced as he had no counter measures to the necromancers bind. He just stood there trapped getting eaten by the undead.
"So young and naive." old Conrad said. Still leaning on the tree, which apparently made it easier to control the undead, King Arhiman just stood there with a bored expression on his face.
"It is kind of boring that our holy faction friend didn't prove to be a challenge." King Arhiman said. With that the vision ends. I guess he died just then. I wanted to see the outcome of that fight with a sigh I close the book then put it back on the shelf.
"Funny, it looks as if you were staring off in space but you sighed in the end like you were reading it." said a guy behind me. His voice sounded a bit gruff.
"That isn't anything you need to know." I say. He then looks at me again with a strange look.
"My name is Isa." he says holding out his hand. I grab it and shake it.
"Mine is Erik." I tell him. He then laughs like a madman. I wonder if he is crazy.
"I feel like that's a good name for you." he says. He then walks away and turns the corner. What was he doing in the vampire history section anyway? I then notice a presence coming this way. I'm probably just me being jumpy. But then again it's better to be safe. I run to the other end and turn to another section of the library. I head to the exit behind the library and go out in the sun. Someone nearly runs into me but I quickly do a spin sideways dodging him. I think I'm getting more agile. I then run into the forest and stop when I get to the river.
"I'll take a nap here." I say. I then fall down into the grass and lay thinking. What do I want in life anyway? I then open my eyes and remember something when I was five.
"Hi." I say to a little girl in the tree.
"Be quiet or they will find me." she says and I notice some footmen looking in the bushes and river.
"Have you seen a little girl." the footman asks. Should I say yes or should I say no. maybe I should have some fun.
"Yes she was here a bit ago." I say. "But she went that way." I point across the river. I know there isn't a bridge near here.
"Okay the men are across the river." he says running in the river and disappearing into the forest on the other side.
"They're gone." she says. While stating the obvious she stares at me.
"Thank you for that comment." I say, my voice dripping with sarcasm. She doesn't respond and drops down to the ground. She then walks away and I fallow because I have nothing better to do.
"Slow down!" I shout. Gee when did girls get this fast? Well I guess I have to run at full speed.
"I guess we will have to call you Serena." I say catching up slightly. She then turns to face me and glares.
"How do you know if I'm calm?" she questions. She then turns around at a big tree and jump into the river. I run up to the river jumping in. I feel the water weigh me down more than I thought it would. Dragging myself out of the water I look around.
"I was going for more of name meaning quiet or silent but then I didn't like any of those names so I settled with Serena meaning calm girl." I ramble, all while catching up to her as she walks away.
"What kind of reasoning is that?" She says bending around a tree.
"My reasoning, that and I don't know your name." I yell back. I take a shortcut through some other trees. I then spot her and realize I went ahead of her. I then decide to climb a tree and stay on a low branch. When she comes near me I hang upside down the tree.
"Hello." I say. She jumps back when I suddenly appear in front of her.
"How did you get ahead of me?" She exclaims jumping back. I then notice the footmen from earlier coming in this direction. Well this is the best time to make a disappearance. After jumping for a bit I realize that I'm completely lost. I then hear running water. I never knew that I had this good of hearing. When I arrive at the river I see a man.
"We meet again." says Isa walking closer to me. I drop down from the tree.
"So we do." I say excitedly. There is an air of mystery that I can't shake off. He then pats my head. He's treating me like a kid. This is unacceptable.
"What are you doing over the border of Ulvia?" He asks. I am going to pull off the stare game, if Serena could do it so can I. I simply stare resisting the urge to talk. How did she do this? Okay change of strategy let's just walk away.
"You know you should answer an adult if they speak to you." Isa says following me. I continue walking back towards the river, how long will he keep following me. Wait a second what is Isa doing over the border anyways?
"What are you doing here anyway?" I ask. He just smiles, when somebody smiles that means they want time to think of an excuse because what they are doing is a secret.
"I am just viewing this side of the forest in Ulvia, to record it for the library." Isa says, yeah he is totally viewing the forest. To be honest the bigger problem is that there is somebody who works for the library on the church controlled part of Voma. Let's just say Voma politically is split into two sides the older east Voma which is under the churches side and the newer west Voma which is under the libraries side. Of course they both are under the king of Voma's control to which the leaders of each side act as advisers for the king.
"Why don't I believe you." I say. There is more forest on the west side why cross into the churches side? Also he's entered another country. I don't think we want another huge war to happen.
"That is because you don't trust other people Erik." Isa says with his usual smile. Well you are obviously doing something, even I could understand that. "Let's go back to the village Erik."
With that he walks past me and leads me back to the village. When we get back to the village we see the footman from earlier setting up the stage. Was there going to be an event, actually what was going on.
I open my eyes, it turns out what was happening was a conversion. The library was trying to get the people around the east capital to convert to the library ideals. All that ended up happening was a fight between the counselors, which happened to be the little girl's parents, and an arch bishop which was sent to stop the library's plan. In the end the counselors died and the little girl went missing supposedly dead.
Wait a minute Isa has already met me, that and when we first met he already knew my name. The library people definitely knew their information.
"So we meet again Erik." Isa says standing over me. I open my eyes; funny even though he was silent I knew he was there.
"Yeah, but you didn't tell me earlier that we had met when I was five." I say and guess what. He laughs; then again I guess it was funny because I am not that different from when I was five.
"Still as paranoid as ever I see, say do you enjoy the milk I send weekly?" Isa asks winking his eye. So he was the mysterious sender of that milk. Milk around here is expensive so there is no way that the orphanage that I live in is able to buy it but luckily for us this mysterious guy sends this huge thing of milk weekly. "Actually I like what you did to your hair, covers your eye."
"… Ok thanks." I say, he still rambled as much as ever. "The last time you came here it ended in two people being dead and one went missing."
"Wow Erik you make me sound like I am evil!" Isa exclaims. I wonder if this is what it would feel like to have a father, but then again I would never know that.
"I still wonder." I say. He seems a bit too happy and many rich people are evil to the core.
"Then rest at ease I will prove my innocence." He says. Hmm I don't think being near him will help my brain power. I think I'll get stupider.
"I think he's more like that strange uncle." I whisper talking to myself. Yes he's that uncle that'd you'd hate but you pity him too much.
"What are you talking about?" he asks leaning forward. Actually I probably shouldn't judge him to fast this could be a trick.
"Nothing that concerns you." I tell him flatly. For the first time in life I swear he frowned, even though it still showed his usual smile.
"I bet it does." he says with a smile that looks oddly threatening. He walks slowly up to me.
"No it doesn't." I say backing up into a tree. He then towers over me.
"I guess I'll have to get it out of you the hard way." he says. What torture will he do to me? He then ducks down. What is he planning? I'm then turned upside down. He grabbed me by the foot. I have to get away. I try to squirm away but his grip is to strong.
"I'm warning you that if you don't tell me I'll dump you into the river." He warns. With the look on his face I think he'll do it. He then dips me in. I thrash around, bubbles of air are coming up but I still can't get away. Just about when I think I am about to go unconscious he pulls me back up again, I breathe for a few seconds and regain consciousness but then he plunges me back down again before I get a proper breath. I go right up until I am about to faint but then he pulls me out again.
"I will tell you, I will tell you just stop!" I scream. He then plops me down right next to the water.
"I… said that… you're like… an uncle." I say in between gasps. Better not mention the things I thought or I might die. He then brightens up with a smile so big I think he could swallow me in one go.
"I like that you think that." he says. I don't know many uncles that would kill their nephews. "let's get going."
"Where are we going?" I ask, He turns around and smiles. I don't like this. What evil plan does he have now? Wait he could be trying to kidnap me.
"Irasi, capital of Voma." he states matter of factly. What idiot wouldn't know the name of the capital? The capital of West Voma is Retai and the capital of East Voma is Omal. The capital of Virath is Nyset, the capital of West Virath is Veros and the capital of East Virath is Vogha. I rest my case in the matter of how I am not an idiot.
"Name somebody you know who doesn't know the name of the capital of Voma." I try my best to reason with him.
"I know 73 people, 48 of which are from a church, 8 are not from Voma and the last 17 are people who never went to school." He says laughing. Isa… Isa… Isa… the only person who would know 73 people who wouldn't know the capital of Voma while remembering exactly how many of there were.
"Why do I have to follow you?" I ask. He stops and pats my head, this is getting annoying.
"Because I always wanted a son and you are an orphan." he stats. He then ties me. Well in this situation I should get some sleep.
Konton: what a way to end, two people did die.
Mizu:...
Konton: OK, getting kidnapped is an okay development too, but he went to sleep.
Mizu: I believe that nobody died in this chapter, it was just stated that people died in the past.
Konton: As many people would say same difference.
Mizu: I did the torture by the way.
