Chapter 5- Luck

"You're lucky that it's only a grade one sprain," the doctor's voice rung out in the room as I leaned back in my chair with relief. The doctor was currently wrapping a splint around my injury as I watched him. Since my injury was minor it would heal on its own so there was hope that I would be able to play next week. "Now you may need to ice it for about ten to twenty minutes every three to four hours to reduce the pain, thankfully your injury isn't as serious so I won't be prescribing any medication," he added as he moved back to writing on whatever it was on the sheet of paper in front of him. "Next week I have a game, is it likely that I'll be able to play?" I asked softly only for him to shrug. "I would prefer if you didn't, injuries like these tend to weaken the ligament, it may be a little difficult for you to play and if it's not heal properly in time you may further damage it," he explained.

"I'll write you a note to exclude you from any physical activities, also writing may be a little difficult so try to take breaks to relax the muscle, you can remove the splint tomorrow," he added before smiling. "Anything else?" he asked as I shook my head. Standing up I bowed and thanked him before leaving as Aikawa stood up quickly the moment he caught sight of me. "Are you alright? What did the doctor say?" he asked as I smiled. "Just minor sprain, should be healed up in a week or so, but it's likely I won't be able to play next week," she muttered only to see him look relieved. "Goodness pony, I was worried," he murmured before taking my hand.

Once it was paid for we left the hospital. The sun was already setting and it was right then that I recalled that Aikawa had work. "You have work don't you? You're really late!" I gasped as I turned in the direction of where we needed to go, though he gently pulled me back smiling as he did. "I called already, I took the day off," he replied softly knowing that Mai was obviously going through a hard time. It was only natural he wanted to make sure that everything was alright, especially with an injury. I sigh with relief as I glance around, my thoughts returned back to Mu as I wondered what she was doing. I was sore about what had happened and I honestly I wanted to talk to her and tell her what really happened. '

"I should get you back," Aika spoke as my attention returned back to him. "No! I-I don't want to go home," I stuttered, I didn't want to go home especially not after such a horrible day. I saw Aikawa's expression soften when he understood my distress. "Alright, come on then." He spoke before taking my hand and leading me, a part of me was thankful that I didn't have to go home and be alone with thoughts.

Soon enough I found myself seated on a bench as Aika came running back, he had taken me to a nearby park and told me to wait. I smiled when he returned as he sat down next to me, "I though you would be hungry. They have really good packed meals around this area," he explained as he took out a small box, handing it over to me I felt how hot it was. "Thanks Aika," I replied happily as I made an attempt to open it though when Aikawa glanced over he quickly took the box away and opened it for me. "Sorry pony I forgot. It must be hard to eat with your wrist sprained, here open wide. I'll feed you," he declared though his words brought a blush to my cheeks. "I can do it myself Aika," I assured only for him to shake his head. "Pony please?" Just hearing that was enough to give up on feeding myself as my shoulders sank slightly. He really was a kind person, it was no wonder I fell in love with him. Leaning forward I opened my mouth and he slowly fed me. My eyes widened when I tasted how good this was, the chicken was hot and the sauce that went with it complimented it well.

"This is really good," I spoke after swallowing my first bite. He only laughed in response at my amazement, "It's alright, not as good as your cooking if you ask me," he replied happily though his words cause yet another blush. I did quite a bit of cooking for him, whenever I went over to his place I would cook him something since he enjoyed it so much. "I'm happy that you think that way," I managed out before he gives me another spoonful of chicken along with a bit of rice. Once I was done he went ahead to eat though he finished his food a lot quicker than I did. He leaned back rubbing his stomach in satisfaction as he gazed out. "Hey Pony, don't think so much about today. Your wrist will heal up in no time," he assured as he placed his arm around me pulling me closer. The contact was enough to remind me of what happened earlier. I had cried my heart out to him and he comforted me, holding me tightly reminding me that he was there for me. "Thanks Aikawa, for taking me to the hospital and you know… being there," I whispered softly.

They spent the next few hours out talking before he finally took me home, I felt a lot better after spending time with him that I hadn't noticed the time. Thankfully tomorrow was Friday so I could take it easy soon. Aikawa had even surprised me by giving me a good night kiss, he reminded me not to stay up late or to think about what happened today. I nodded and waved before I entered my empty house, my parents would be back next week and they wouldn't be pleased to hear about my wrist, but it couldn't be helped.

I spent the next hour washing up, it had taken some time since I had to be careful of my wrist, washing my long hair was a hassle and it was times like this I wished Mu had stayed over, at least she could have helped. Just thinking of her was bad luck as the moment I got out of my shower, my phone rang. Sighing to myself I picked it up, it wasn't like me to hold grudges especially not to someone that I considered close.

"Mai? Is that you? Where are you?" I was greeted with question after question as I slowly got dressed. My phone was on the sink left on loudspeaker so I could hear her though she seemed more interested in asking questions. "I'm home Mu, I just got back," I mumbled before cringing as I tried to hold my towel with my hand, it was almost impossible to hold anything since it was so sore. "What did the doctor say? Can you play next week?" she asked as I left the bathroom with a towel around my shoulders to keep my hair from dripping all over the place. "No, probably not. Not that matters since Yuuki can take my place," I spoke casually, though it was probably obvious to anyone how bitter it sounded.

"Mu…" I heard my best friend grow silent, a part of me wanted to hang up, but I couldn't. In the end she was my friend so I figured I'd ask why she behaved in such a way. "May I ask why you took her side? With my whole wrist thing," I asked, I was seated down on my bed using my good hand to dry my hair with the towel. Again I was greeted with silence, "it was in the heat of the moment… Yuuki came clean after you left. She said that she left her things lying around and you tripped and fell.. she felt really bad when we were celebrating. I can see why you said it was her fault, but it was an accident," she explained softly. Surely this had to be a joke, the fact that my best friend was falling for it was ridiculous. My lips parted ready to tell her off, but I couldn't make the words. I hated fighting especially with Mu. I gave up knowing it wouldn't help to argue about this, I was tired. All I wanted was to rest and heal up so I could return back to basketball. "Alright Mu, anyways I'll tell you the details on what doc said. I need my rest," I replied before saying goodnight and hanging up.

In the end I needed to use my hair dryer, but once that had been settled I got under my covers. "Tomorrow's a new day," I mumbled to myself knowing that today had been a horrible day for me. At least Aika had been there and truthfully it was nice of him. We rarely got time to spend because of his work and basketball practice, at least now I can watch him since I can't play until I recover. That sounded nice, I could pick up tips and discuss strategies with Hitomi. It wouldn't be so bad now that I thought about it. My thoughts continued on until I eventually dozed off to sleep.
