Chapter 5 "Understanding"

Sirius wondered the deserted halls of Hogwarts. It was still much too early for most of the student body to be out of bed yet. Sirius racked his brain trying to think of the place his godson was most likely to be. He decided to check the owlery first, knowing Harry most often found comfort in his owl, Hedwig. However the owlery was empty. Hedwig flew down from her perch by the window and landed on Sirius's shoulder and gave a small hoot in greeting.

"Hey there girl," Sirius said, stroking her feathers. "Where on earth is your master? Sirius questioned the owl looking out the window gazing out on to the Hogwarts grounds. With a sigh he let Hedwig fly back up to her perch.

His next step was to check the Hospital wing. Surely he might find Harry in there visiting his friends? But what awaited him was five students, three of which were fast asleep in their hospital beds, sleeping peacefully. However he found Hermione and Ron to be very much awake.

"Have you two seen Harry?" Sirius asked making Hermione and Ron jump at his voice.

Hermione's eyes widened "Oh Sirius! Are you alright?" she asked smiling at him in relief "I heard you got hit with a curse and fell through that veil, and I assumed…." She trailed off

"You assumed the worst." He finished for her "I assure you I am alive and well. I'm assuming you haven't caught glimpse of my godson then have you?"

"Sorry Sirius, but no Ron and I just woke up not too long ago." Hermione said

"Did you check the Quidditch Pitch?" Ron asked and Sirius shook his head "If he's not there trying down by the lake. He goes there and sits under the tree to think sometimes."

"I'll try there then. Thank you both. You both should try to get some more sleep or Madam Pomphrey will throw a fit."

Ron rolled his eyes "Tell us something we don't already know"

Sirius chuckled and bid them fair well and made his way out of the castle winding his way down the familiar hallways and on to the grounds taking the fastest path to the Quidditch Pitch. He looked around the stadium but there was no sign of his godson there either. Starting to worry, he headed down to the old tree by the Lake. He sighed in relief as the tree came into view and saw a very messy black head of haired boy sitting under the tree just as Ron had said. Harry sat with his chin resting on his knees with a faraway look on his face.

Sirius slowly made his way over to his godson and sat down next to him

"A knut for your thoughts Harry?" he said as Harry looked at him

Harry shrugged "Just thinking I guess. I always knew I'd either be the one to kill him or be the one killed by him" At that remark Sirius flinched at the thought as Harry continued "Either way everyone in the wizarding world is Depending on ME to be the one to defeat him. It's a lot to take in, that I'm the only one that can do this."

Sirius sighed and draped an arm around Harry's shoulder. "It is Harry, I know it is." The two sat there silently for a while until Sirius broke the silence again "But look at it this way, you have SO many people that are willing to support you and care about you. All Voldemort does is instill fear into the people who support him. He doesn't know what it is like to be loved and have people who care about him, you DO. And that Harry is the greatest power of all, Love"

Harry gave Sirius a half Smile "A very wise man once told me that in my first year, I didn't know what he meant until now."

"Dumbledore?" Sirius questioned as Harry nodded

They sat silently again before Harry looked up at Sirius "Thank you Sirius"

"For what?"

"Being there when I need you, Making Dumbledore tell me about the Prophecy, I needed to know. I couldn't understand why he thought I needed to learn Occlumency lessons so bad… I understand now but I still don't even understand the concept. All Snape did was barge right into my thoughts he never told me how to block him out…"

Sirius's blood boiled at that "what a prat. Don't worry I had words with him last night…"

Harry raised his eyebrows but didn't question figuring it was probably best not to ask. They sat there and watched the Giant Squid play for a while until Harry's Stomach gave a loud growl.

"When's the last time you ate?" Sirius asked with a slight chuckle

"Erm… Lunch yesterday?"

Sirius laughed "taut taut. Molly Weasley would have my head if she knew that. We best go get you some lunch. According to Molly you are entirely too skinny"

Harry chuckled "which explains why she's always practically force feeding me second and third helpings"

Sirius let out a bark like laugh as he stood up and helped Harry to his feet. "What do you say we go see your friends in the hospital wing and have lunch with them? I think they're eager to see you and make sure you're okay."

Harry sighed "I suppose they are." He bit his lip as he thought " Sirius I don't know what to tell them…"

"Well it's your choice but I really think you should at least tell Ron and Hermione about the Prophecy. It's your choice with the others; just let your best friends know what's going on." Sirius said, putting an arm around Harry as he led him up the path and towards the school.
