Chapter Three
A Creature of Habit
If anyone ever thought to ask Wally about Dick's habits, he'd say they were pretty much like clockwork. He got up every morning at five, went out for two hours to train in the school gymnasium and came back to their room at five to seven. Thus, he'd shower in ten minutes to the dot and come out ready to face seven hours of school in his red hoodie and boots. He'd do a quick revision of his homework by seven thirty and head out to do morning clean-up of his classroom. Garfield would be at his side then, talking his head off, and they'd use the next half hour to chat amiably and begin their day.
Like any other average Joe, Dick would have classes from eight to three in the afternoon, with an appropriate thirty minutes for a quick lunch in their cafeteria. Dick would then go back to his room and change into civvies, porting the appropriate pass to get him to leave campus without the guards trying to stop him and pull him to the Dean's office. By eight, he'd be back from the Agency and in the gym, practicing some off martial arts moves and generally gathering an entire flock of fan-boys to watch him work. At ten thirty exactly, he'd be in the room, looking grimly through the homework he didn't finish in class then heading to shower and dress for bed.
At twelve, it was lights out, whether he or Roy wanted it to be or not.
Recently, however, Dick was doing something that was driving Wally's curiosity up the wall.
Tuesdays were Dick's days off, he never went to the Agency and he usually spent his days oscillating between studying, hanging out with Victor and Garfield, or simply smacking the lights out of the communal punching bag while calling it training.
Two weeks ago, though, Dick went out… and snuck in well past curfew. That was enough to get Wally's spidey-senses tingling like someone had just tickled his web. He wasn't instantly on the case, though, since it was a onetime thing thus far. Until last Tuesday, when his little Robin actually stole into their room through the window, of all places, wholly avoiding detection from everyone but Wally, who prided himself for being a light sleeper.
Kid Flash immediately scented blood.
Even more so when, today, the suddenly very interesting Tuesday, his dearest Robin came into the room parading homemade Cinnamon Swirl French Toast. Due to his own hardy regimen of training, Flash ate as much as someone three times his own size, so he knew quality baking when he saw it… and that cinnamon swirl French toast was so perfectly made it was almost unfair to watch Dick eat it all by himself. Of course, the yoink technique would have worked fabulously if that damn Robin was a little slower and less alert to his roommate's shenanigans. Wally supposed he had no one to blame but himself and he watched with dejected, forlorn puppy eyes as Dick consumed the bread like a true connoisseur... and shared a piece with Roy.
Filthy traitor…
Roy ignored his burning, accusing gaze, and enjoyed the slice he had been given even with the gremlin sitting under his own raincloud in the corner of the room. The bastard went as far as to exclaim over how exquisite the taste was and how it melted in his mouth. Wally was smiling as he was in the midst of a happy strategy of jumping on Speedy and messing up his hair… possibly even reaching for the scissors and making lasting damage.
Dick seemed to have picked up on his intentions and Wally winced when a careless fist made contact with his shoulder as a warning shot.
"Don't you dare, West, or I'll cripple you for a month." Robin growled low and walked past without breaking his stride, letting him stew in his contempt for a minute or so as Roy finished the obviously delectable slice with a relish.
Dick sank down onto his bed with a tired sigh, rubbing his neck absently as he stared at the wall with half-lidded eyes.
Wally's perception narrowed with that sound and his mindset became completely predatory as he rolled off of his bed, crawling on his belly toward Robin like a soldier in a minefield.
"Was the cafeteria serving that?" he asked, unable to completely keep a devious tone out of his voice as he spoke. Dick shot him a cautious look, as if trying to dissect him with his eyes before he nodded, half shrugging.
"Yeah," he answered, standing to grab his clothes and hit the shower.
"In the middle of the night?" Wally observed with unholy glee as Robin froze and turned to watch him once more, the sudden casual stance letting Kid Flash now exactly how coiled the other boy's muscles really were. Clear blue eyes were completely unreadable and Wally cursed Dick's capacity for facial control. His expression was as solid as a rock!
"You do know they keep a chef on rotation to feed anyone, right?" Dick asked him, the underline of his words seemingly asking if Wally was really that stupid. Wally swore under his breath, standing to give him a piece of his mind and really show him who is boss!
Dick ended the conversation by shutting himself in the bathroom, but Wally knew better even as Roy read him an impressive lecture on manners. Wally continued to stare at the door that had been shut in his face, pensive. No matter how long they'd been having this feud, Dick had always managed to give the last parting word before ending it all, but he'd never turned away from the challenge Wally represented. He'd always stuck around, even if the argument was impossible or pointless.
Richard John Grayson had just run away from a confrontation…
There was more going on than he though! He just had to get to the bottom of this!

I know I said Star would be in this chapter… but I cut it short because it seemed appropriate! Wally needs his screen time! Or, well, he demands his screen time and I am admittedly too in love with him to refuse.
Damn it…
But it works! It really does! I liked it better this way because Wally is a total diva and it feels like the plot is thickening! Somewhat?
Yes, well, I was never good at writing mysteries… just reading them.
My computer kept shutting off too… it's a conspiracy, I tell you! Also, I would like to remind you… glacial updates! You have been warned twice!
