A wild Robin chase
Summary: Wally really couldn't believe his eyes, but it was right there! Dick… flirting… with a GIRL? Too bad no one believed him.
FINALLY! Starfire stars in this one! The chapter we have all been waiting for, damn it! Sorry the wait was so long for a short chapter. The next one will come sooner!
Recipe 6: Brownie Mix Truffles
Ingredients (makes 3 dozen truffles)
1 box fudge brownie mix + ingredients on back of box
12 oz Baker's chocolate
sprinkles/embellishments
Instructions
1. Bake brownies according to package directions then cool completely. Do not over bake or sub out oil to make brownies low fat or they will not stick together. Cut off edges then fluff cooked brownies with a fork. Scoop out brownies by the Tablespoon then roll into a balls and place on baking sheets lined with wax paper.
2. Add chocolate to a microwave-safe bowl just big enough to hold it (makes for easier dipping) then microwave for 1 minute and stir. Microwave in 20 second increments, stirring between increments, until chocolate is melted. Dip brownie truffles in chocolate then transfer between two forks to let excess chocolate drip off. Transfer back to wax paper then add embellishments on top. Place into refrigerator to harden then package. Store on the counter or in the fridge.
Chapter Five
The Girl who Shines
Following Robin was a bit like playing a game of ninja/superspy. Dick was as squirrelly as hell, always looking over his shoulder and incredibly sensitive to stares. Wally always thought that the kid was awfully paranoid for someone so young, but this worked in his favor as Wally crept some paces behind him. A professional mischief maker, ducking corners was an art Wally had perfected throughout the years!
You'd think he made stalking overly suspicious roommates a hobby.
So far, Dick had merely passed the school gates and turned a left down Titans Road, towards the center of town. Jump City wasn't a particularly large place, but the center of town had its fair share of goodies for young boys… Wally had to dash into the bushes to avoid being seen when he'd howled with laughter at the idea of Richard John Grayson in the Red Lights district. That was practically next to impossible! Dick's interest in girls couldn't even fill a teaspoon, much less have him risking his building résumé as a future policeman by traipsing among the older, darker folk of Pleasure Street.
Wally nearly choked on air when he saw Dick turn right on Tower Avenue, the beginning quarter of the Red Lights district. Quickly, he followed, though he stayed three buildings back. Though he'd hidden his bright hair beneath a beret he'd filched from the French kid two rooms down and big sunglasses to hide his eyes, Dick had other ways or recognizing him. Even if he disguised himself as a tree, Dick would be able to identify him with his eyes closed. Plus, Dick had a habit of doubling around his path, as if checking for a stalker.
Flash would have scoffed and laughed at Dick's skittish personality if it wasn't for the fact that he was, indeed, being shadowed.
The redhead nearly breathed a sigh of relief when Robin cut left, crossed the street, and instead of continuing into the Pleasure Streets further down, he went into a small, quaint looking bakery. Unwilling to lose sight of Robin, Wally ran across the street one block away, sneaking to look through the front window and peek in on his roommate's secret.
No way.
Wally couldn't believe his eyes, but it was right there! It couldn't be true, not in this or any galaxy! Richard John Grayson just never did these sorts of things, but there he was! Dick… flirting… with a girl!
It was almost too much to bear.
Wally pasted his face onto the glass, all the while trying to remain as unobtrusive as possible. Thankfully, this part of town was mostly deserted in the early afternoon hours, so he was able to stand right outside with his entire body pressed against the front window and no one called out to him. Almost as if the owner had designed this place for skilled stalkers, the windows were covered in decorations along the edges, allowing Wally to stare through the gaps and remain unseen.
Behind the counter stood the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Tall, with a head of cherry red hair, vivid green eyes and a blinding smile; a smile she was currently directing at Dick. And his red bird was returning it! Taking off his glasses and chatting with her, looking more animated and happy than Wally had ever seen him since he had arrived at school!
The scene was just too much to take! Wally slammed a palm against his mouth and turned around, dashing back towards school at a record breaking run.
They were not going to believe this!
To be Continued…
So Wally is a bit of a Gossip Girl. Anyone noticed the goodies I dropped around? Probably, I'm not very subtle.
I thought about having Wally go in, but it would really cut the story short so… no. Later on, he will, but for now, he'll simply remain a voyeur.
