This is the first in a series of drabbles that explores the very first reactions of the characters upon Kate's death, starting with Tony, the next one will be Gibbs. If you like this look out for the next one (it will probably be called Revenge'.
Blood
He felt her hot red blood splatter on his face and watched as she fell to the ground. He knew it was over. For her at any rate, it would never be over for him. He was sure that the only image he would ever remember of her would be the large matted mess of blood, hair and bone that was the back of her head.
He stood stunned for a long moment his eyes fixed on Kate's lifeless body, he'd never lost a partner before. They'd been reassigned (or he had), quit or retired; but he'd never had to wipe his partner's blood from his face while she lie on the pavement in a pool of her own blood and he wondered if there was anything he could have done.
By the time Tony was able to comprehend his surroundings again the situation was under control. McGee was no longer pinned down and Gibbs was already on the phone. Tony could only imagine who. Not that he bothered to, it didn't really matter and he knew one person that he wasn't talking to.
"DiNozzo, you okay?" Gibbs asked snapping his phone shut.
"Yeah Boss, I'm all right" He replied, assuring Gibbs of his physical well-being, he didn't dare think about his emotional well-being.
"Tony, can you secure the scene? I'm going to find that bastard. And Tony, I called Ducky, he'll be here soon"
"Right Boss. Get that son of a bitch"
"I will" Tony didn't doubt it for a minute as Gibbs disappeared of the roof top. Tony took one last look at Kate's lifeless body before following him.
