Hello folks
We sometimes look over the things that help us survive the hellhole(though fun hellhole) of Rapture.
In this installment we look on the simple but sophisticated vending machine.
It was the third week rapture opened and everything was going fine (minus a few disasters here and there or everywhere for that matter), until Ryan noticed that Fort Frolic was overcrowded by shoppers from all sections of Rapture buying things like food, First Aid kits, clothing, and sex.
Originally he planned for shops and dining areas to be confined at Fort Frolic.
Though with overwhelming demand for things he would need to spread it out to other sections of Rapture for convenience.
Thus he allowed other shops to open around Rapture, this worked for about 5 weeks until the shops started to monopolize the resources, but Ryan was busy handling the other problems of Rapture, so the responsibility was laid on a Mr. Di Laquis.
Now Laquis was a simple and bright man and came up with a solution by inserting vending machines that dispersed items at key locations of Rapture.
You see the system worked like this, after a person puts in a bill a contraption transported the bill to a vault that would be used for an emergency, after a daily routine of five hours the vending machines would be restocked with anything it was missing.
The machines structure would be the same type of metal that Rapture was made out of making it virtually indestructible, and preventing anyone form destroying it and stealing any items that was in it, course that didn't mean it was hack-proof.
Laquis named his invention "The Circus Of Values".
Originally it was only filled with items like chips, Aid kits, and hypos.
Eventually the raising demand for ammunition forced Laquis to also stock it with bullets and other pieces of ammo.
This caused a problem because all the ammo took up much more space than basic items, which in turn made the vending machines need more refills.
Laquis went past this by creating "Ammo Banditos" vending machines that distributed exclusively ammo.
After Rapture fell into chaos, vending machines were still an important part of life, source of aid kits, eve hypos, and ammunition.
I always wondered why you couldn't destroy them.
Well that's my imagination about the Vending Machine.
