Author's Note: A very small Christmas one-shot from the world of Nate, Caitlyn, Annabelle, and Melody. It is very short, but this is what I thought Caitlyn's Christmas wish would be.
"So Caitlyn," Mitchie asked her best friend, "what do you want for Christmas?"
"World peace," Caitlyn replied flippantly without looking up from the bowl she was cleaning.
Peggy laughed, but Mitchie frowned at her friend. "No, I'm serious. What do you want for Christmas?"
Caitlyn set down the bowl and turned to look at her friends with a bemused look on her face. "Hmm… what do I want?" She paused a moment before continuing, "What I would really like is for all the laundry to be done and put away. And for the house, car, kids and dog to all be clean at the same time. And then to sit in absolute quiet with no one wanting anyone from me."
Mitchie and Peggy looked around Caitlyn's house. The sink was piled high with dishes that they had all used to make Christmas cookies with the kids. Frosting and sprinkles covered the counters and kitchen floor. Annabelle and Adam had dumped a huge pile of Legos onto the dining room table to keep them out of reach of the babies and were busy building some sort of spaceship. Melody was outside laughing and rolling around on the grass while her puppy Andy tried to lick frosting off of her face, getting them both muddy in the process. Shane sat in the family room surrounded by baby toys with his feet up on the coffee table, watching a football game while Faith slept on his chest.
At that moment, Nate yelled from the office, "Caity, can you grab Jason one of my clean shirts? Zachary just spit up all over him."
Then the doorbell rang, waking Faith, who started crying.
All three women began to laugh.
"So world peace, Caity?" Peggy joked.
Mitchie grinned as she headed towards the refrigerator to get her daughter a bottle. "Sort of seems more likely."
Caitlyn started towards the front door. "Peggy, go ahead and grab a shirt out of our closet. This is probably Tess and Jordan, fashionably late as usual."
