How Of Mice and Men should have ended!
Lenny was running up the road quickly. He knew that George would take care of him. He kept running to their spot.
George knew that Lenny was in trouble. Everyone wanted him dead, but he planned on killing him softly, like any true friend would, to keep him out of trouble. He didn't anticipate the bus, the same bus that took them into the farm when they first came. It flattened him into the packed dirt as the men passed him. Half stopped and looked, tried to help, but the rest, the more blood-hungry ones, kept going, screaming vulgar chants, promising to have Lenny's head before sundown.
Lenny heard them coming, but he didn't see George. He remember about the caves, and how he could run away and live on his own. Without looking to see George, he broke through the stream's clear, reflective surface and ran into the woods on the other side. By the time he was hidden in a thicket of rocks and thorns, the group had given up and the stream looked almost normal. Sirens were heard nearby, aiding George, but the men thought otherwise and ran to tell them the story, ignoring Lenny, in just enough time to let him run away.
