I'm With You
Using as little adverbs as possible here.
He flicked open the mailbox when he arrived home, sighing at the amount of white envelopes stamped with the business logos of the power company and the water company, etc. The stack contained nothing but bills, and a year ago Riku hadn't considered the fact that living by himself meant paying for everything. By himself. The one person who could brighten his day rested inside not ten feet in front of him, catching a few of his scarce hours of sleep before venturing off to work.
Such was their life now: Eat, work, sleep, repeat. Riku missed his college days when his parents payed for half of everything and he shared a dorm room with his boyfriend.
Clutching the depressing stack of envelopes in one hand, he unlocked the door and crept inside, careful to lay his keys down before approaching the bedroom. He wanted to make sure his brunette angel didn't wake up by the sound of footsteps or jangling metal.
With a delicate push to the open door, Riku tread onto the carpeted surface and scanned the immediate area for signs of life. In the center of the bed, tangled in a mass of blankets, his boyfriend shifted onto his side and settled farther into the mattress. A soft grin tugged at Riku's lips when he stood over the slumbering form and prepared to sneak into bed.
"G'morning, Ri-ku," Sora murmured from under the blankets, his voice muffled but still audible.
"It's five in the afternoon, So-ra," Riku mocked, slipping under the blanket beside the younger man.
As strong arms snaked around a slender waist, the brunette stretched to his fullest height and squirmed closer to Riku. "D'you get the mail?"
Brought down from his natural love-sick high by the reminder of mail, Riku's sobered voice mumbled, "Yeah." He squeezed the lean torso of his boyfriend and sighed. "I got it."
"Bills came today, huh?" Sora's fingers grasped at the hem of Riku's shirt and tugged upward. "I get paid tomorrow. It'll be all right."
Parting from the younger man's embrace long enough to remove the article of clothing, Riku nodded as best he could while lying down. "I hope so."
Sora's deep ocean-blue eyes sparkled with an emotion Riku had come to know as lust, mixed with an unidentifiable factor he had never seen.
"We will. And even if we don't, I'm happy as long as I'm with you."
And as the layers of clothing were stripped away, Riku knew he felt the same.
