Feeling herself slowly regain consciousness, Kai opened her eyes and blinked a few times. It was so bright.
'Wait, why is it so bright?' Sitting up she scanned her surroundings. She could see stumps and a huge carved stone with a lot of writing on it. It looked familiar to her.
Then she heard voices, and on instinct she raced for cover. Looking from her hiding spot she saw two teens that looked to be about 15 or 16 come to where she had been sitting seconds ago.
"Hey Sakura-chan, where did Kakashi-sensei go?" Kai felt familiarity at that name.
'Where have I heard that name before? Kakashi, Kakashi, Kakashi…"
The girl, Sakura, who had pink cherry blossom hair that just barely reached her shoulders, replied, "I don't know…he was right behind us though."
"I thought so too but ever since we walked into the training grounds I haven't seen him."
"Me either."
"I'm right here." Kai froze. The voice had come from right behind her. Slowly turning around she gave a small smile to the man behind her. But when she saw him she gasped. Everything came back to her.
"Hey Kakashi-sensei, why are you in the bushes with that girl?"
Kai jumped out when she saw the blonde haired boy sitting next to Kakashi.
'He looks like that baby in the album. The same spiky hair…'
"Hey girl, who are you? Why are you here?"The boy asked with a confused look on his face.
"I umm…I…"
"Weeeell…"
"I want to know, is he Kakashi Hatake?"
Kakashi narrowed his eye slightly before asking, "Yes, and how do you know who I am? I don't recall seeing you anywhere."
"Ummmm…well do you know anyone by the name Emiko?"
His one eye narrowed even more before he said, "Answer Naruto's question first, who are you? And why are you here?"
KAKASHI'S POV
'Who was this girl and how did she know Minato-sensei's cousin? She kind of looks like Emiko… just who is she?' He saw the girl look away.
"My name is Takahashi Kai. I'm 17 years old and my mother is Emiko. I am an only child and my mom said that my father died before I was born. His name was Takahashi Yosuke. I don't know why I'm here but it's a long story as to how I got here."
She looked like he was telling the truth but just to be sure he asked her a few questions about her mother. Each time she furrowed her brow, probably wondering why she was being asked these questions.
"What is your mother's maiden name?"
"Namikaze Emiko."
"What color are her eyes?"
"Sky blue."
"What about her hair color?"
"A dirty blond color."
"What is your father's hair color?"
"Dark brown, almost black."
"And his eyes?"
"Black."
"How do you know?"
"She kept a photo album of him and it included you and Obi-"
"That's good enough."
'I'm going to have to talk to her in private.' He thought to himself.
"So do I pass?"
"Hn, but you still need to see the hokage."
"Hokage? Can I talk to you first about something though?"
"Naruto, Sakura can you two take her?"
"HEY it's rude to ignore people?"
"Sure Kakashi-sensei, but why aren't you coming along?"
"I have to get back home."
I walked away hoping to get back home without running into anyone before I felt a tug on my sleeve. I turned around and met a pair of angry eyes.
"You could at least answer my question. How hard is it for you to say yes or no?"
"Uuumm… Takahashi-san I think it would be wi-"
Kai turned to Sakura and gave a frown. "I want him to answer my question properly." Turning back to me she asked me again. "Can I talk to you about something? It's important."
'Why is she making such a big fuss? Can't she wait till after she meets the hokage? I have to go home and think this out. It's been around 17 years since Emiko and Yosuke disappeared and then a 17-year old girl shows up saying they're her parents.'
"Well Hatake-san?"
"After you talk with the Hokage come to my apartment and we'll talk. Does that work out?"
"Fine." She let go of my shirt and walked over to Sakura and Naruto.
KAI'S POV
'He didn't need to be so cold.' Smiling to Sakura and Naruto she followed them.
"So Kai have you ever been to Konoha?"
"Naruto I don't think we should be the ones asking her questions. Leave that to Tsunade-shishou."
"Aaawww, but I was just asking her if she ever came here. I'm not making her tell me the whole story."
"It's fine Sakura. No I've never been to Konoha before Naruto."
"Really then can I take you out for ramen tonight. Not like a date but just friends hanging out. Hey we could invite some of my other friends and some of the jounins."
"Okay, does that mean Kakashi is coming?"
"Sure we can invite him. And all the other teams too."
"Would Kakashi really come along? He seemed so cold and harsh when I talked to him."
"Well he doesn't know you yet so I don't think he's comfortable around you. Once you get to know him he's not that bad." Sakura gave a reassuring smile to me. "Here we are."
I looked up and saw a huge building that was in front of a huge rock monument that seemed to have faces carved on it.
"The faces carved on the mountain are the previous hokages. The last face farthest to the right is our recent hokage, Tsunade."
I stared in wonder at the faces. I realized that I recognized one of the faces. It was Minato Namikaze.
Following Sakura up the stairs I looked out the windows of the building. The sunset looked so beautiful from high up.
'I'll bet it'd look even better on the Hokage Mountain.'
"We've reached our destination. Let me go in first." I nodded as Sakura entered into the room that was the hokage's office. A few minutes later Sakura poked her head out and said I could come in.
Walking in I could feel the importance of the room as I saw a blonde haired woman sit at a desk piled with papers. She studied me as I walked over towards her. I bowed as she stood up and looked me up and down. I could feel myself go a little self conscious as I stood erect again.
"So you are the girl who is the daughter of Emiko and Yosuke." She stated. I gave a small nod. "How did you end up here? Last we ever heard of Emiko was that she and Yosuke died after being attacked by some s-class missing nins."
So I explained how I had found the box and started trying out a jutsu. I skipped over the album part. I would tell that only to people who needed to know. Like Kakashi. Tsunade seemed to understand my story. She cocked an eyebrow when she heard that I had tried a jutsu from a book that clearly said FORBIDDEN JUTSU.
"So that's how I'm stuck here."
"Ah, I see. I guess I'll have to get you a place for you to live until we figure out this whole mess."
"Could I have an apartment near Kakashi's?"
She cocked her eyebrow again as Sakura's eyes widened. "Why would you want one near Kakashi?"
"It's because I need to ask him a few questions."
"Fine with me, Sakura take her to Kakashi's apartment building and give this note to the landlord."
"Yes, Tsunade-sama."
I bowed before I went out.
