Well, here we are. When I first set out to write a short for today, I wanted to write a piece that would show the kind of bond that a man should have with the children he helps bring into the world.

...and then I settled on BlazBlue.

When I considered my choices, limited as they are, I could only really settle on this one. After all, Relius Clover isn't exactly the model of fatherhood, now is he? Italicized section is a flashback.

I did a bit of research, so I think I've gotten this the way I want it, though it's possible that a few details might've gone awry. Besides, I like to think that this is just...

Kagutsuchi's Hanging Gardens existed as the city's home to various flower arrangements. Collections of exotic plants could be found everywhere in the Garden. Everywhere except one small grass clearing in a corner.

Jubei of the Six Heroes sat in the clearing, his attention divided. Part of him watched the area for potential threats, not that he faced that many these days. The rest contemplated the package he'd been rather awkwardly delivered earlier that day.

"Huh?" Jubei asked as he took a small envelope from the delivery boy. "The heck's this about?"

His student, Ragna the Bloodedge, rubbed at his neck sheepishly. "I dunno. I ran into that damn Red Devil earlier. He gave me that to give to you instead of his regular bullshit. Wouldn't say who it was from. Only that you'd know."

Jubei mulled over it for a moment. Who'd want to send him anything at a time like this? And do it through Ragna, anyway? Most importantly, he supposed, who the hell knew about him and Ragna?

"It ain't explosive or nothin', right?" He asked.

Ragna shrugged. "Dunno. Kinda small to do any damage, though."

"Guess so..."

Once Ragna had left to continue his one-man crusade, Jubei warily opened the envelope. It hadn't exploded, as he'd thought it might. Instead, it contained the two reasons Jubei sat staring in the middle of a small field.

The first item was a piece of paper. On it was a rather unflattering caricature of a certain pinkette child of his offering what would be considered, in most circles, a rude gesture. The words, "SCREW OFF, OLD MAN" were hastily written over her portrait.

The second item was a simple green lollipop.

At first, Jubei wondered what brought on the sudden need for her to make such strange and minimal contact with him. After all, the two of them didn't have the strongest relationship in the world. Once he'd run through his mental checklist, he sighed and smiled slightly.

That girl... Ah well. Guess it's better than nothin'.

Deciding that he'd better not look this gift horse in 'er mouth, he picked up the lollipop, removed the clear wrapper, and popped it into his mouth. Not half a second later, the Hero spat it out, gagging at its flavor.

"Bleh. The hell? Green foxtail?"

...Another Possibility of the Continuum Shift.

...I can't really take this day, or these two, seriously. I love them as characters.

Anyway, I've got another BlazBlue work in the...works...that's even making me wonder what I'm thinking. Look forward to it, plus more for MMZ:LR and, if I can ever get around to it, R2 and maybe Demons.
